    Awesome video Stu! For the no wet cap plastic on skin, someone higher up in the makeup world told me they apply it directly to skin for hair laying which is wild. I still wouldn't recommend people do it, but thought you might find it interesting.

    That's pretty crazy. It's not for direct skin contact. However, the tragedy is what is great is you can paint cap plastic onto a silicone surface and lay hair into that. Then once dry powder and peel it off so you can apply it with adhesive as ore laid hair. Much less chair time as its laid on advance. Now that would be a speedier option.

    Extraordinarily good tutorial in that you are seeing a flawless patch up job with nowhere to hide the repair work. Just seeing every pore , hair and colour variation in the skin the appliance is sitting on is revealing of the skill shown here. Good video Stu mate

    Such good information. Any suggestions for when the adhesive drys an obviously different more glossy finish than the skin? Is there a way to matte finish pros-aide?

  • @stuartbray

    @stuartbray

    3 жыл бұрын

    There are a few ways. I often use Beta Bond by PPI (similar to Pros Aide) over an appliance and to blend it into skin better for example, so a large area can be shiny as a result, not just overpainted adhesive. Try Matte Sealer by Allied FX, there are a few brands like this. Also anti shine such as Mehron. Alternatively, make another appliance using no deadener and use this as a template. Place this firmer appliance in the intended area and powder around it, thus leaving a boundary of where to apply the glue, avoiding too much excess.

    Awesome video! Can this also work for gelatin prosthetics?

  • @stuartbray

    @stuartbray

    5 жыл бұрын

    Within reason. If gelatine is sealed first then water based adhesives can work ok. The trick is to ensure moisture from the skin and any fillers used cant make it to the appliance.

  • @stuartbray

    It will stay on, but how flawless it remains will depend on how much action it sees. Edges on areas where there are lots of movement are prone to more damage, and you'd certainly be chasing those edges all day if that's the case. This is a repair job, so needs maintaining.

    Great video! Would you recommend the pros aide cream adhesive rather than mixing standard pros aide adhesive with cabosil to smooth the edges?

  • @stuartbray

    @stuartbray

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, although PTM by Tinsley is better still. Adding Cab O Sil thickens the mixture but also reduces its flexibility, so Pros Aide Cream can work well as it is more flexible than Prosaide and Cabosil mixed. It will reduce and shrink as it dries, noticeable if you have thick amounts applied.

    Hi Stuart. I made some silicone prosthetic appliances with plat gel 0 and Super Balidez cap plastic but forgot to put deadener in. I tried to apply one of them, stuck it on with pros-aide but couldn't remove the edges with IPA using cotton buds. I even tried to use acetone but didn't work either. Can it be because I forgot to put deadener in? Or what can be the problem?

  • @stuartbray

    @stuartbray

    7 ай бұрын

    All cap plastics should dissolve with acetone, even the alcohol based stuff. Sounds like the edges are not pure cap plastic, there is some silicone in between the two layers. This means the thick edge you are trying to dissolve is not cap at all, but the silicone between the layers. Nothing dissolves silicone, and a thick edge like that means something went awry in the casting stage.

    what precautions would you need for someone who has high blood pressure and on medication?

  • @BattlesWithBitsofRubber

    I'm not aware that anything featured here would exacerbate a pre existing blood pressure condition. If it is a high risk situation and you are aware of such risk then I would refrain from doing this on so precarious a subject.

    @@valentine_puppy I suspect the heat and any increase in cardiovascular activity from wearing something large or heavy could be an issue, in much the same way wearing a backpack or being called to be active for a scene could be. The risks are not directed at the materials you use so much as the increase demands on the body which such a performance may create. I would in this case perhaps give a complete list of materials and breakdown of the application or wearing process (application time, weight of piece etc) and let their medical professional make an assessment of such suspicions or risk are present.

    Does it work with latex too?

  • @stuartbray

    @stuartbray

    4 жыл бұрын

    Filling does, as latex cant break down like cap plastic can. Silicone doesn't break down, so that too must be filled. I would say it's easier to fill and fix latex that silicone.

  • @stuartbray

    Mostly, yes. As ever the key things are ensure anything sticking up is securely stuck down first. Latex doesn't melt with anything safe to use on skin so filling with Cab O sil mixed with Pros Aide or use PTM type material will work.
