Stryper Founder Michael Sweet Interview New Album Final Battle
Stryper is an American Christian metal band from Orange County, California that started in 1983. The legendary US heavy metal band announced that their new studio album, The Final Battle, will be released on October 21, 2022. @frontiersmusicsrl Join this interview for more details on the new album and discussion of the Rock Music scene over the years.
Michael Sweet is the singer, songwriter, guitarist, and founding member of Stryper - one of the pioneering rock bands of the late ’80s and still today.
Michael Sweet says not much has changed when it comes to the band's relationship with the music world. AJ mentioned the decline in true Rock... done by Christians and how Styper has stayed true to the music for almost 40 years.
Stryper is the first band to have two songs in MTV's Top 10 simultaneously.
The song "To Hell with the Devil" appears on the Rhino Records release The Heavy Metal Box, a compilation mainly of secular classic metal bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica, as well as hair bands like Twisted Sister and Poison. In the mid-1980s, Stryper enjoyed their most successful period beginning with the release of To Hell with the Devil, which achieved platinum sales status.
To Hell with the Devil is the Grammy Award nominated third release, and second full-length album, by the Christian metal and Glam metal band Stryper
Stryper has sold over 10 million recordings worldwide, and it is estimated that two-thirds of their albums were bought by non-Christians
STRYPER is based on Isaiah 53:5 - But he was pierced for our transgressions,he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his stripes we are healed.
Salvation Through Redemption, Yielding Peace, Encouragement and Righteousness (band).
Sweet performed lead vocals, background vocals, and guitar work for Boston. Sweet was asked to be a part of what was supposed to be Boston's last performance on August 19, 2007. It was a benefit and tribute show and names such as Sammy Hagar, Mickey Thomas and Ann Wilson were among the invited guests. Tom Scholz was moved by what Sweet had written about the late Brad Delp and then heard Sweet sing and play guitar. Scholz was so impressed with Sweet's talents that he invited him to join the band and become a permanent member. Sweet handled lead vocals on roughly half of the set list and played guitar for the entire set and handled solo work as well. In August 2011, it was announced that Sweet had left Boston to focus on his priorities and contributions to Stryper.
Sweet, as a member of Stryper, released God Damn Evil on April 20, 2018. Due to its album title, it was deemed offensive and garnered a "parental guidance" label and was banned from Walmart. Despite this controversy the album sold and charted well with most major music indexes.
Sweet released his tenth studio album, Ten, on RatPak Records in late 2019.
Sweet also participated as guitarist, lead singer and producer on Stryper's Even the Devil Believes that was released on September 4, 2020.

Gosh…that first answer by Michael sums it all up! It’s exactly what I’ve been saying about the band….that they’re giving us a bit of nostalgia with every new record(especially from No More Hell To Pay to The Final Battle), while moving forward with the music so it’s still appealing to new listeners. It’s tough to do…but they have done it for the last almost 10 years. It’s amazing. How does a band create a song like “Yahweh”…an instant modern day Stryper classic….then puts a song like “Near” , which to me is part throwback, part 2022. It’s mind boggling. I’ve bought all those records and I appreciate that they still create quality music for us fans.

Been a fan of Stryper since 1989 as a 13 year old and I've never looked back. First album I bought with my own money was In God We Trust after hearing the title track on a compilation cassette called Hot Metal Summer. From there it was my quest to acquire the back catalog. After that I bought Against The Law when it dropped to round out my Stryper library at the time. I've never made it to a live gig sadly, but I can only imagine how epic it would be and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God bless Michael, Robert, Oz, Perry, and former bassist Timothy.

The Final Battle is a fusion of their classical albums with a touch of modern production
@81artmonk

@@benireges I thought the front half of the album was basically a continuation of their "REBORN" album. The back half was better. I just thought that their last 4 previous releases were much better than this one. The only way I could describe what I didn't like was the riffs were great, but when the verse kicks in it loses the impact of the riff. They don't match and lacked melody unlike the previous releases. It was just ok for me. Which is super hard for me to say since I have been a HUGE fan since 1984. I live and breath Stryper.

@@81artmonk eh i can somewhat agree but i do think the final battle hits a major landmark in production quality, and some of the songs easily beat everything from even the devil believes. However it does not compare to no more hell to pay, fallen, and god damn evil. Those 3 are masterpieces im certain the guys wont ever top
🌟Stryper🌟 🤘
For me, the best so called “hair metal” bands of the 80s are Stryper, Ratt and Dokken, but Stryper is the only one who is still kicking ass on the level that they are.
The labels that are given to great bands actually hurt them. Rock is rock. Metal is metal. Country is country. I've never heard of Christian country. Christian rap. So why is STRYPERs version classified as Christian metal
@effectradio5028
Жыл бұрын
True. But I feel Christian pop and Contemporary music sounds so different compared to the secular stuff- maybe due to the Christian labels/producers? However, the Rock and Hip Hop side can go right along with the secular stuff in quality.
I’m curious to know if there’s a Christian based music Festivals featuring secular bands that claim to be Christians and also straight up “Christian Bands”?
@effectradio5028
Жыл бұрын
hunmm there are festivals that have secular groups mixed in as well. Seams like the popular Bands that are Christians put on a quite a large show standing alone like Stryper. Skillet is another group that performs with secular and Christian festivals.
Stryper underappreciated metal band failed by rock and metal fans

6 minutes into an interview and Sweet FINALLY mentions Christ...only after the interviewer brings up what he isnt talking about. This is why I dont listen to stryper anymore. There is nothing cool about not giving God all the Glory. I pray for mr. sweet. It is a terrible thing to into the Hand of God, Amen. Hebrews 10:26-31 NKJV.
