In this video we hear several Volante sound-on-sound looper examples.
Sound on Sound with Magnetic Personality.
Create dynamic loops that degrade and evolve. Change loop direction at the touch of a footswitch. Press PAUSE for a mechanical tape stop effect. Change the speed of your loop and simultaneously change the pitch in octave increments.
Find an inspiring sound in Echo Mode, and all your echoes remain intact when you engage Sound on Sound. When your loop has reached the perfect state of mutation, you can engage Infinite Repeats to stop further loop degradation, creating an infinite loop while disengaging the loop record head.
==================================================
Volante: Sounds From The Expanse.
Three Magnetic Delay Types, Spring Reverb, Looper, and More.
Delivering truly exceptional sound quality and intuitive playability, Volante is designed to radically enhance the sonic expressiveness of your pedalboard. Featuring magnetic drum echo, tape echo, and reel-to-reel studio echo, Volante is a stereo multi-head delay that also offers a looper and vintage spring reverb, with powerful sound-sculpting controls for limitless sonic possibilities.
Create instant retrofuture atmosphere with evocative vintage delay tones. Activate your imagination with evolving ambient echoes and warm, organic feedback with just the right amount of grit. Sculpt your soundscape in real time as Volante becomes an extension and expansion of your musical instrument. Infuse your pedalboard with stunning vintage vibes that resonate and inspire.
==================================================
Recording Notes:
Signal Path: Fender Stratocaster (Japan 1985) → OB.1 (compressor only, no boost) → Sunset (JFET) → Volante → BigSky (cabinet filter only) → audio interface
All examples use neck and middle pickups (volume & tone maxed), except for “Quickly Dissipating Loops” and “Apply Reverb to Loop” which use bridge and middle pickups. For “Evolving Loop,” Strat volume and neck pickup tone control turned down a bit during EBow solo.

    Very nice. The SOS loop degradation reminds me of the excellent Digitech Echo Plus. You can play it till it fades out with each repeat or stop it and loop. I imagine many users won't bother to use the SOS function, but for me this was pure genius to incorporate this feature.

  • @strymon

    @strymon

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello! The looper is processed the same way in stereo as the wet signal - a copy of the dry signal is summed, processed, and then sent to both stereo outputs with a stereo effect for a sense of depth and movement. The dry signal is never summed.

  • @geha6596

    This happens even earlier and depends on the length of the loop. SO very short loops will degrade faster. So I guess it is a algorithm which degrades the quality after every repetion a bit.

    @@strymon thanks for the response. This is a really great sounding pedal. Just as a recommendation, you guys might want to entertain an external switch function of a "play once" on anything recorded in SOS mode on future products. I can't tell you how many live guitarists would appreciate this. Most of us have to use things like the Ditto, flashback X4, or an old boss looper to do this (especially without wanting to drop cash on a boomerang). It makes a lot of cover songs a thousand times easier and more pleasing to the audience when we can play things we recorded once, on the fly. At any rate, I think the volante will be a massive hit.

    I played several staccato palm-muted notes into the looper, first lower on the neck and then up high on the neck within the minor pentatonic scale, which sounded pretty normal when I played them, and then I allowed them to loop over and over again with the settings you see on the screen at that time. Since the Wear control was turned up fairly high and the Mechanics control was at maximum, the loop degraded with each pass and eventually came to sound as you hear it in the video: almost unrecognizable as having been played on a guitar.

    I don't understand how it's stereo: You can place the heads in different locations in the stereo image but would that even be able to cause a ping pong? I know that it may not be historically correct but who cares if it sounds cool?

  • @strymon

    @strymon

    5 жыл бұрын

    I'm not very clear on your question. You can select which heads are panned anywhere in the stereo field including L, R, L, R for heads 1-4 to get a ping pong effect when all four are engaged. Or you have have them all centered without any bouncing of the repeats between the left and right sides.

    We expanded on the SOS looper found in El Capistan for Volante (and Magneto). The SPLICE function is used to start and stop recording and clears the loop when pressed a third time. For SOS, the loop degrades with every pass, but if you engage the HOLD function, that lifts the record head and the recorded loop will no longer degrade. Once you understand how to access and use these functions, you can use it like a normal looper you may be more accustomed to.

HOW is my nightsky gonna be sounding on the loop when its summed to mono, what a disaster, I am absolutely sad 😞 Like for real, you guys even created stereo IRs, how is it that your most in-depth stereo unit with panable stereoheads is in MONO when entering looper? Please be careful if you think to buy it also for the use as an endless looper. (SOS looper, "INFINITE HOLD" mode). The loops lose the quality of sound even after switching on the "INFINITE HOLD" mode (in normal SOS it is wanted and fine, but the INF mode actually does only disables the overdubbing, nothing else). So the statement "...and prevent the recorded loop from degrading." is simply not true. After reporting the problem to Strymon, this behavior was confirmed, but I was also told by their support, after some time of investigating this, that this will never be changed because it would be too much programming effort. I then asked Strymon to at least correct this in all their documents & web pages, as it is simply misleading. Unfortunately, nothing happened so far. I hope this helps someone. (Recorded loops are in mono by the way) - The rest of this pedal is amazing...
