This is the best distortion pedal I have ever found. I highly recommend this to everyone. It might seem a little expensive but it is well worth it!
This is 4 years old and I listened to this and then Rabea’s demo on this and compared it to the PSA 2.0 and this won. I dropped my change on this Strymon today. It’s still working on a selling tool level all this work. Cheers 🍻
price notwithstanding, this is a fantastic sounding pedal - one of the most impressive sounding pedals I have heard in a long time
As usual strymon are amazing!! This pedal is incredible!! Most anticipated pedal for me and I would love to own one!! Seems to sound amazing at any setting!! Strymon are just an amazing pedal manufacturer and well and truly worth the money!!
Getting a greenscreen is the best thing that happened to Andertons Music Co
Many complain about the price range of the pedal, I see why and I agree to a certain extent (I do not own any strymon pedal): - How about other pedals like King of Tone, or other Klons? They have way more limited versatility with regard to the range of voicings you can get (real tone depends really on your setup, and it has to be evaluated live). And yet people are kinda fine with it being "holy grails" of driven sounds. NOTE: I'm not saying they're comparable/better. In fact this demo is mainly focused on high gain tones other demos focus on low gain settings which this pedal is really capable of. - This pedal offers a full tonal control (presence, full eq, high/low gain, mid push) in with a noise gate (a good one), boost, expression pedal control, favourite switch, (which is not a stand alone it does work in conjunction with other strymon pedals - it is not mandatory to buy strymon's external switch). - Last but not least, you see on youtube a lot of demos where this pedal is compared to all OCDs, TS, RATs.. It tells a lot about the voicing capability of this drive. Considered that this pedal wasn't developed as emulator of the mainstream sounds, it is simply versatile enough to get you in the ballpark of each of the most inspiring voicings. If some don't like it, it's fine and go for the next. But saying it's a complete crap I consider it a far-fetched conclusion
damn, that riverside looks awesome, its really made me rethink my whole rig inside and out. Awesome demo! \m/
Riverside+Deco together creates some magic too!
Good lord this is beautiful, absolutely wonderful tones! That Chapman guitars (as usual) is a beast too!!
I love how you can tell that Rob is on top of his game when the Video was recorded ! absolutely stellar play...
The Santa, cake roll, snowman, and Jezus intermezzo's are fn' hilarious!
Gat damn this sounds incredible. the low end is pumping in my speakers and i love it
I cried laughing at the djent acid trip, Rory is a pure legend 👍🏽, and hello from Australia 🇦🇺
I've got the Strymon bluesky reverb on my bass and admit their stuff is slick....top notch
We need a Sound like... Strymon, on a budget.
This is an epic demo !
I'm going to name my son Strymon. Strymon is a badass name. Why did I name my kid Bobby? Strymon is way cooler.

Superb Tone!! Merry Christmas 🎶
I can't wait for Strymon's take on a fuzz!
Boost out can be used as a boot or favorite switch in other pedal. Exp out can be used with exp pedal as a volume pedal or morphing between 2 sounds (really cool feature).
I freaking love you guys .... and I need to try those strymon pedals I hear great things
Definitely getting this!!
Really love the relic work on that Stat. I think it looks awesome.

can you please play in more different styles, like classic rock, hair metal, trash... when rob plays his style in every demo it all starts to sound the same

Exactly. Allways metal sounds. He can play great, but his style in demo's is limited.

hugo h maybe they should do more sounds than the ones you mentioned "distortion, more distortion, more distortion". I mean your suggestions sounded like the description of their tones. They could actually do other tones than rock/metal too.

+100 Hugo. "You've absolutely nailed it", as they say on the X-Factor. It could be a tremolo pedal and we'd still get squealy detuned metal at 100mph. Luckily, "That pedal show" does a great review of this pedal.

Since he plays similar riffs, it makes it more obvious how a pedal sounds different from one another.

A problem of over exposure maybe? It must be difficult to play other styles if that is not your thing, and you've made a million videos besides. Danish Pete and Mick are much more pleasing and interesting to my ear, but that's not Rob's fault. Personally I prefer to expand my own horizons nowadays by seeking out new shows and presenters... Does that sound a bit Star Trek?
Omg, I am going to get that too wow !!! Along with the Elektron analog drive
Wow, killer pedal
I'm not a big pedal guy, but this pedal seems and sounds really really good.
Love the band riverside,and i actually think this pedal sounds great. Looks like a great option for someone who wants a lot of OD sounds in one pedal.

Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, but I'll take that Chapman guitar in Chappers hands and this Strymon pedal from the Captain! And the Djent breakdown at the end was the absolute T!T$!!!
I'm drooling
sounds good :)
you should do a vintage or rare guitar/pedal/amp series.. it would be EPIC!
Funny stuff love the dress ups!!!
Thing with Strymon is that if you fall in love with one of their pedals, there's no substitute and you don't care what it costs you to get that into your life. I've got probably two pedals in total that I'd never part with, and one of them is my Flint.
@jburdsinfuse

James Cole I have a Möbius, Dig and Flint. Strymon does a killer job having niche capabilities like the golden ratio on DiG or Destroyer on Möbius, but still has modes that are traditional in nature like the Tremolo or Chorus that usable for most gigs.

@@joshuaH75 Thanks. Yeah, tried one yesterday for under 5 minutes. Was immediately impressed with how good it sounded at every setting. Super versatile. Not sure about the organic side yet. Loud store. Needed a owner opinion or someone that is experienced with the the Riverside, to get honest unbiased review. If so, that box is a game changer. I am just used to all analog pedals, so hesitant. Just wondering if it's too good to be true. Thank you!

6:43 really close to the actually tone of catalyst. sounds amazing
Travelling riverside pedal!
Ojai and Riverside are towns in Southern California, I'm guessing where Strymon is based, perhaps?
another question completely unrelated I bought a Gibson les Paul gold top 2015 and was wondering if would hold its value in years to come I personally bought the guitar specifically for the changes and absolutely love it ..thanks
Dear Santa... my greatest wish 4 christmas this year is the oldschool "peace on earth" ... a Chapman 7-String would also be great :D happy christmas to all of you! Rock on!
Great to know Lee has taken over Santa's job. This year I'm obviously going to get that Gibson Byrdland I've wanted for 35 years instead of the chocolate orange and pair of socks I always receive. Happy days KZread land!!!

wall2157....thank you so much ...I'm just getting into my 4 different triads and variations I was thinking along those lines ...sometimes I overcomplicate things thank you so much
I really like the Chapman guitar, Id like to see it in some other vids. very nice
These guys KEEP taking my money! First the Iridium, then the Orbit, then the Zelzah Phaser… listening to this one now I’m like damn, gotta get another Strymon pedal🤦🏾♂️🤫🤣🤣🔥🔥🕺🏾👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾… and the Deco sounds killer2!
This pedal + Comp + TS + Noise gate on front = Modern "Djent" dream. The front end and initial note attack is a little round, but hey. that's what it was designed to do.
I love draping my baubles over a festive limb!
bangin
Extremely Awesome "The Grail Of Tone!!":).. Famous Riverside California..Known For Arts and Innovation..Right next to LA..?..
Rather impressive pedal
Both Ojai and Riverside are cities in Southern California. Can we have Pete and the Captain demo this pedal in a blues style.
Just FYI the mini pedal is actually the same for all diffrent uses of TRS pedals ( Tap tempos/Favorite switch and the boost for the riverside) There's a couple of dip-switches inside of the pedal to change that :)
When you hit the favorite button, does it take over the current on? Or does it blend with the settings you currently have with the on button? Curious if it just takes over, sounded kinda like a blend a bit to me between the two
@marcstanford5857
7 жыл бұрын
Lemonpi3 no when u hit favorite it just does that setting that u set up. Hit back the right side button and it goes back to where u had it. No blending.
God that's good!
It's a good pedal but DAMN 299 pounds?? 60 pound switch? What a fucking rip off - there's lots that sounds as good to me for A LOT less

progrmr - Some brainwashed consumer somewhere will be stupid enough to spend that on a pedal like this.....i personally think it sounded sh*t and chapman made it sound terrible with his crappy pick squealy style of playing. You can buy a better overdrive pedal than this for 1/5th of the price.

Depends, if you want something semi-transparent to boost your amp's natural gain structure, boss blues driver, ibanez tube screamer, or timmy, Archer or OCD, all of which are only half the price. If you want something to just stand out on its own, you should probably spend a few hundred more dollars on a better amp since digital distortion's almost always trash on its own, even in that strymon tbh.
@JammyGit
7 жыл бұрын
Karol, I've got a marshall bluesbreaker that sounds great, you can probably pick 1 up these days for £50-60, or you can get the marshall guv'nor for the same, or spend a bit more and get a tubescreamer, or be adventurous and buy 1 of those hotone xtomp pedals for £200 and get about 20 or so distortion pedals plus all the other things you get on it. Surely you must know the overdive/distortion pedals you can buy for a reasonable price, but if you wanna waste £300 on this, go ahead 🙂
@JammyGit
7 жыл бұрын
duck, funny you should say that because I was going to say that for £300-400 or thereabouts you can buy a decent little valve amp, such as the ibanez tubescreamer amp or something similar, there are literally loads to choose from.
You just know somebody is gonna buy it. 😀
You should make a TOP 3 of every Pedal category.... Like TOP 3 of Rever, Delay, Boost, etcc..
So I tried this thing last sturday... Musicman Luke III HSS -> Riverside -> Swart AST + 12' Greenbacks. (Beautiful rig right?). My advice on this would be get in a room with it. It sounds a squillion times better (and less scratchy) in yer face than it did here. It didn't sound at all digital to my ears. Perhaps KZread adds some horridness or the mic-pre they used was burning - but seriously - get up close with one and I think you'll hear 299 squids-worth. I'm waiting for Santa to get me one.
I would love to see some diversity in your playing Rob! I'm watching your content for like 3 years now and opposed to Bea/Pete/Mick, you seem to play the same riffs/lead lines/scales over and over again in your demos. Which is somehow disappointing because you are a very talented, intelligent man and guitar player. Otherwise the quality of the video is top notch as always, greetings from Germany!
You presented the pedal quite well! Good tones. That pedal show got really much negative comments about selling out and lying what they think about it. So many claimed they heard instantly that it's digital and that they can't deal with the obvious lag of a digital processing. Was pretty interesting when neither of demos talked about it and I bet all of you guys would instantly notice and announce it.

Yuppi I don't know about the that pedal show guys but it sounds extremely natural to my ears ... and I usually don't agree with that pedals show anyways, try it for yourself, you'll be blown away...

Yuppi well Mick is one of the biggest jerks around so not surprised.
Now I haven't played it in person, but the only thing that made me think it was digital was the favorite switch. For digital gain this sounded great. Just remember to try in person ;)
You can stick this one straight into a power amp can't you so the pedal can effectively be used as a preamp? What about sticking it straight into a desk or an AI for live use or recording? Would make a great topic for one of Rabeas demos if he's got time.
just got mine yesterday for 400 canuck bucks. think i can use any switch for the boost.. im seriously considering selling my OR100 now and getting a custom pure signal parh designed amp to replace it.. all the grain is here..
can rob go a month worth of videos where he doesn't do a bend on the 12th fret? or anything 10 and higher? lol
Everybody tries tlaking about robs tone zi would say robs tone was pretty damn good in this video good warmth nice amount of middle clean trebles and nice low end very well rounded and very very good tone especially for the type of music he plays this pedal def fits him
Review starts at 18:32
Love these guys but in this case I would really like to hear what this sounds like through an amp that is just OK and a solid state amp.
I have a question for you often I see you playing a barre chord ...we'll take G major for instance ...you then drop the G root a semi tone to the locrian note F# ....what is that chord now that you've changed the root position ? thanks gaulty54
@Wall2157
7 жыл бұрын
John Gault Technically speaking, that would make the chord a Gmaj7 since F# is the 7th, or as you masterfully put, the Locrian note of G Major. It would not sound as clear though due to the fact that you would be playing the 7th, which is a color tone, in the bass.
@darlingfarm9525
7 жыл бұрын
John Gault If none of the notes change besides the root, the chord is a Gmaj/F# or you could just think of it as an inversion of a Gmaj7 in which the maj7 is the lowest note. The chord has more of a major 7 sound than a locrian sound because the chord still has a major quality not a half diminished quality
@johnnygault365
7 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Mings cheers mate ....I know what you mean ......I didn't mean by using the F# it made it locrian ...it was merely a reference I thank you kindly ...makes complete sense ...ps check out Rick beato if you've not already ....mega technical but makes sense be good mate thanks again
Even though it lacks the extra channel and boost I'd like to see this A/B'd with the Horizon Devices Precision Drive, its the only other OD i know of with a built in noisegate
