just a noise gate alone is a saving..now my mxr phaser I use before the Riverside is COMPLETELY silent..it used to bug me..id have to turn the pots and pickups off..now I just rack my guitar silence. But that expression mode is crazy setting it all up today
Thanks a lot for this video it is hugely informative. I have just bought the Riverside and thought it was good value and that was without all the excellent functionality you've just explained. What a pedal and what a brilliant reviewer you are

Hey Joe(no pun intended), nice demo. So what if i'm at the expression controller and some of the knob got shifted accidentally, will the settings for the exp pedal still be stored or i need to reconfigure it? Thanks!

Joe, thanks so much for this video. I've not been able to find a stomp distortion with built-in gate that can be toggled on and off with a large footswitch; you showed this set-up can be achieved on Riverside. Even Pete from Strymon doesn't show any of what you've shown here. Thanks so much. You're a Rush fan I take it?
This is by far the best demo on how to use the different functions of a Strymon pedal. I own several Strymon pedals ( Mobius, Big Sky and the Timeline, Iridium Riverside and Multi-switch ) I don’t have a ton of time between work and family at the moment to sit with the pedal and figure everything out so these type of videos really help me get down the using the pedals for actual playing.
This pedal has been on my board for 4 years and your video showed me even more useful features. This is all in addition to a killer sound too!
This a textbook tutorial video. Thank you. Nice MoP riffage, too--you really dialed it in.
Great demo and helpful userguide to the fantastic Strymon Riverside pedal...love it! Thanks so much!!! Beautiful work!!!
Most excellent demo. You are a good teacher. It just so happens I ordered a Riverside this morning. Can't wait!
Wow, what an amazing feature demo. I'm waiting on my Riverside to come in and this just made me so much more excited!! Thanks for the great video 👍👍👍

what is your opinion of the pedal after owning one?
Very useful demo of these features - especially since you post the time stamps for each..much appreciated
Strymon guys are mad scientists of sound!
Joe thank you so much for this ,very very helpful ,Hands on demos are the best ,I was having trouble setting mine riverside until I followed this thanks again
Just bought one and this video is most helpful. Great job, thank you very much.
Great vid I've owned this pedal for years and didn't know this stuff. Should have read the manual
Thank you from the UK 🇬🇧 I have just bought one and this is perfect tutorial.Wayne
This is a really great video. Thank you. I have this pedal. I love it and yet I had no idea it is so versatile.
Brilliant video, thanks for uploading. I'm a bit behind the curve but thinking of buying a Riverside, I think your video has just made me take the plunge. I really like these additional features, especially the noise gate function and the expression pedal function. Subbed and no doubt I'll come back to this for a refresher course. Cheers.
Very well done! Thank you for making that.
Excellent video! Helped me a lot to understand this amazing pedal thanks! I subscribed.
Thanks for sharing! Great guidance!
Great review it does a hell of a lot for one pedal then again it is a Strymon , looking forward to get my hands on one soon ‼️‼️‼️🎸
Outstanding Tutorial my friend! Thank you.
Awesome demo, Joe!
This was incredible helpful. Thank you so much for doing this. I’m late to the Riverside game. I just sold my Sunset and am getting the Riverside because of this video.
Extremely helpful. Well curated video!
great demo!
This a wonderful succinct concise breakdown of the Easter eggs on this bad boy… which is now on my board with th extra foot switch 4 the boost! Strymon does it again 👍🏾thanks 4 this video mane👍🏾💯🕺🏾🕺🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Insane features! Gotta add to my Strymon collection. ThE Zelzah phaser and Orbit Flanger, and Iridium are on my main board! Top notch sounds and top notch customer service from Strymon. 👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾🤘🏾🔥🔥
Fascinating...thanks for the review!
OMfnG that is a monster of a pedal. Absolutely brilliant.
Very impressive, my friend!
Thanks a lot . Very useful video .
This is killer, thank you!
Just have to say thanks, man. I was gonna get rid, but I'll now keep for a bit longer. Strymon should pay you.
Ohhhh that is soooo IMPORTANT! Strymons' only problem is understanding pedals fetures. this is great thanks man!!
That pedal is so cool !!!
Ty tones are specifically why I'm interested in the Strymon exp pedal function, so imagine my surprise when I jumped to that part of the video! 😁
that was awesome! THanks for making this video! I am considering buying one of these. I'm going to look on your channel to see if you have a similar video about the Strymon Sunset. :)
The expression feature is really slick. Great video dude. Reminds me of my old Digitech GNX3, the expression pedal would evolve between two different amp models and their settings. That thing still worked last year when I checked it out again for fun. I gave it to my Son. That old huge thing actually sounds good even by today's standards. Of course this Strymon offering is a much stronger beast with just killer tone if compared. Anybody else ever play with the GNX3/4 series Guitar workstations by Digitech? I would not likely gig with it but it was fun with an 8 channel looper and recorder and loads of some of the first digital amp models and wild effects like triggered flangers and phasers.
09:32 - Summerland by King's X! Great demo. This thing is next on my list.
Thanks so much !!!!!
Mines coming tomorrow. Thanks. I'll use it at rehearsals, tomorrow!

I have it. At home its great. I have a new guitar player with me now. so playing with a guitar player other than me now, changed the dynamics. I wasnt happy last night, so today I just tweaked and found a good few spots. ill know more next week. I always really work at my sound before I keep my pedals. but....my Wampler Euphoria and Xotic EP is very, very hard to beat,
A lot of interesting features.

coolll, thanks for sharing
Great video, that's all to say!
Thank you so much!🍺🍺🍺🍺
such a good pedal
you did an amazing. “Deep Dive” …. I hooked the switch to do the boost. I think it gives you up to 6db buy any curve is there an internal know that would allow me to adjust the BD.
Thx for the demo Joe because some of the stuffs not in the booklet. Great souding pedal. It's a loud pedal btw. But great.
with my 2 channel and boost on dirty channel...it's 3 amp sounds/channels... this gives me 4 sounds per channel so 12 types of drive...if use the expression pedal with the favorite .then with the boost pedal function I have 24 different sounds!! Then with the expression it is near limitless in between sounds Your review sold me and I have one, it is amazing
so I can use two favorite settings - one with pedal on "exp in" and the favorite switch on the Pedal? And in addition to that a volume boost switch?
Thank you for the video, it is a very informative one! Just one question, can I use any footswitch for the boost?
What an amazing pedal! Does the Favorite OUT also work with any other Strymon effect that has a Favorite feature? Like the El Capistan
oh wow
Mine is dead after exactly one year. Bummer ! Sending it back.
If the two settings on the extremes have the same volume, is the overall volume is more or less the same across the whole range of EXP?? or will the volume dip or raise in the middle? I am asking because I've always been dreaming of a distortion that can be controlled with an EXP pedal to morph between settings. And for that, I used a HX stomp. The problem is, in the middle settings, the volume is always higher than at the heel and toe. Seemingly, the reason is because Gain is non linear volume boost and Volume is linear. Please let me know, whether this pedal have the same behaviour? Another query: what will happen if i set the max and min for the EXP. AND THEN I move the knobs when the pedal is in the middle?
Nice in-depth demo! I've a question. If i hook up the El Capistan delay with Riverside, can i toggle the El Capistan on/off by using the fav switch on Riverside? Using the Riverside's favourite out method of course.

The DECO allows you to save a Favorite with the switches in the OFF position, but I don't know if that is true of all Strymon pedals.
One question: It is possible to switch to favorite from the pedal off? Or are u forced to pass via "On" Switch and then go to favorite?
That explains the price of these pedals. So versatile!
Sounds good, and on stage, in between songs you can read the manual.

I actually just refer back to my video between songs.
What are the specs required for the expression pedal, or is that kind of "anything goes"? What is the exp pedal used here? Great video!
Just ordered one, and an expression pedal.

Hi bro can i request for strymon dig : all features shown Thank you so much bro in advance...
Does the noise gate stays on when the pedal is off?
Thanks for putting that video together. Great work. I'm very interested in this beast. How easy is it to switch between volume mode and expression mode?

So you did.. my bad.. thank you. Is it the powering off and on moment? Or the movement of the level knob through the 3 different light colours? The reason for asking is in hope that it can be done from the foot but it would seem it can't either way. Was hoping to be able to switch from volume mode to expression mode on the fly :)

Unfortunately you have to power cycle the unit to make the change.

nice demo. one question, if the right FS if OFF, can i still turn the Favorite FS ON? there is no setting that you can have two separate drives and stack them together right? thanks!

I don't have this anymore, but I believe you can get the favorite setting queued up while the main bypass is off. There is only 1 drive.
Is there any way you can show the exact steps you went through to enable the Boost function to work from the Remote Switch? I'm trying to get my Strymon TRS switch to "latch", but no matter what I do, I can't get it to function properly. I've checked the cable and made sure the Strymon TRS box has everything connected inside properly, but I can't get the boost to work. When I step on the remote, it only stays on as long as I am holding it down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a follow-up: I had to send Strymon my external latching switch, and it turned out it was wired backwards. They fixed it, sent it back and didn't charge me a penny. Great Customer Service.......and theri pedals Kick butt. I own 6 of them:)

Thanks. I was using a Mesa Boogie Express 5:50+ and probably a PRS 408.
I have a question once you have turned noise gate on , does it cut it off if you power unit down , or rather what cuts noise gate off , so if I unplug unit do I have to cut noise gate back on thanks for any help

As far as I remember, the Noise Gate setting was saved and not effected by power on/off. I don't have the unit to test with anymore though.
Hi Joe, would you happen to know if this works with a Boss EV-30 Expression pedal? Was trying it, seems to be not working as it should. Thanks.

Where do you find audio juice switches? Can’t find them on the web anywhere.

That's right. They did some pretty cool stuff with the way you can turn the drive up and down and maintain the same volume.

Wow! That is nifty. That's one beef I have with even great drive boxes, it's so hard to control the level when you want to vary the gain especially in a live gig. Thanks for the info.
Does the FAVORITE setting remembers the position of VOLUME?

Love the Summerland riff.
Hello guys!!! I'd like to know how can I incorporate the RIVERSIDE to my pedalboard and use it like my other midi pedals to store a different overdrive on each footswitch button of my controler? There's no IN and OUT Connections ont the Riverside! The actual MIDI path on my pedalbord: MIDI controler (Midi Out) 👉 Nemesis Delay (Midi In / Midi Thru) 👉 Strymon Mobius (Midi In / Midi Out) 👉 Strymon Big Sky (Midi In / Midi Out) 👉 Revv Generator Amp (Midi In). Please help me!!!😉 Thanks. Julien from France.

To be honest Sound trash
your explanation is really clear. Awesome! i got what i wanted to know. thank you.
This is a great video thank you. When you save favourites, is the position of the switches saved as well as the knobs…if that makes sense!? Thank you..
