Dang this hit home. My mom committed suicide when I was 16 years old. 10 mins after I said “bye mom going to the park.” Now I’m 35 and struggle with this every single day. I’ve been angry at her for 19 years. I’m tired.

Why are you taking on your mother's burden? You were not the cause or solution to any of her issues in this existence. Let yourself let it go, it has nothing to do with you. I promise.

Listen to Dr. John at 16:04 - “….you deserve joy, and laughter, and happiness.” It is understandable to be angry at your mom for what she had done, as she didn’t give you a voice in her decision. Years ago, I attended the funeral service of a school parent who had committed suicide. Several years earlier, a horrific ski accident had torn up her shoulder, resulting in unending pain from massive nerve damage. Reconstructive surgeries, physical therapy, acupuncture, and medication all failed to relieve her pain. One day, after the children had gone to school, she called her husband and simply told him that she dearly loved him and the kids, “ but today is the day”, and then she hung up. She was dead by gunshot. At the funeral, the celebrant, an elderly, very wise priest, told the congregation that we can never fully understand the pain and anguish a person is experiencing that leads them to this final act at that moment. They are purely motivated to end whatever pain is present. Forgive the person, forgive the action.

Thank you for this. Everything Nikki said, happened to me. My father took his life 10 months after my mom died in a car accident when I was 15. He was a police officer battling pain killer addiction. I’m 31 now. I just cried for the first time since my mother’s funeral back in 2007. I didn’t think it was possible. I frequently think about what I could of done to help my dad. I become very angry when I think about it. For a long time I did not think I deserved to live a happy life. Watching this video gives me hope.

I’m my gosh. I’m 27, and my dad committed suicide 2 1/2 years ago... and my brother did 16 years ago... I relate so much the feelings. Very different circumstances though.

I have seen that something which really helps people with guilt is validation from others that its not their fault. I don't know why our brain can't do it but when someone else say its calming/healing

Wow this is so crazy! My dad went through the exact same thing and was addicted to pain medication as well. He took his life 9 years ago and I still struggle with it everyday

Why do people think you can’t have a funeral for somebody who is cremated? We had a service for my dad (military honors), and his urn is buried, not scattered. Beautiful headstone etc. It brought the closure that I and my daughters needed.

Honestly I have no idea why people think you can't have a funeral for someone that's cremated. I just went to a funeral last year it was my step uncle and he was cremated because his body was in a state that no one would have been able to see him and it was beautiful and it definitely was needed. He also was given military honors and it was given by his grandson.

@@TheTaintedTragedy honestly, most of us that want to get cremated don't want any funeral. Maybe that is why it just became the common norm

Back in 2001 when I was almost 15 I decided to tell my dad that I had been calling my stepdad dad but he was devastated and he didn’t talk to me for weeks and then my little brother had seen him in between the time I’d told my dad this and the time he killed himself and I’m now 38 and I still feel so guilty we never made up and I just wanted him to know that I was calling my stepdad who had been my stepdad for 8years at this point I never wanted to hurt him or cause him any sadness I was just being honest and I never got to say goodbye to him and I can’t even describe how painful it is daily living with the fact of I may have caused him to take his life, I don’t know what to do or who to turn to and I don’t even know what to say now I’m just heartbroken 💔

People Jesus is the Rock! Not your Wife, Husband, Parents, Children or Friends! Because they pass away as well through life circumstances! Jesus is the one that you rely on when life gets hard! You must be anchored to Him! (The Rock!) because he’s a sure foundation! Everything else will fail you! But not Him! Jesus said that I came that you might have (Life!) and have it more abundantly!
