One thing unique about you is that you really opted to go to UP. Kaya matatas talaga sya sa Tagalog. Hindi kaunti lang. Mostly kasi although not all, opted to go to Ateneo or DLSU which uses english as their communication medium. Kaya english pa din. I hope she gets more followers from Filipinos because you can really feel she is a Filipino at heart. More power Juwonee! ✨

Im a senior citizen and follower of this kalog na Korean. I liked the part how she kept her silence regarding her actual proficiency in both English & Tagalog on her 1st day in U.P. and the suspense how a professor was stunned when she spoke in fluent tagalog. Hi Juwon! I have been following you since last year, and as an Iska who went to UPD decades before you, I can relate to your "struggles" esp. in writing essays in Tagalog for Filipino class. Buti nga nung time nyo, madali na mag translate ng English essays to Tagalog using your mobile phone. Nung time namin, dipa naimbento ang cp! So we had to literally translate word for word using an English Tagalog dictionary! Wish you the best and keep your blogs coming! 😊 cheers!

I agree, even native Tagalog speakers (like me) struggle with academic Filipino. Fortunately when I was a UPD student long ago (1982-1987), there was usually an English class option for most courses including Philippine History and Rizal. Good memories, thanks to this vlog!

20 years l( and going 21) living in the Philippines, you should know that Filipinos are very helpful, and they are also very considerate so foriegners are treated differently and not taken for granted that they know the language of the country.. they go out of their way and talk to them in english ,which is an international language..Filipinos never assume or take for granted that foreigners living in the Philippines can speak tagalog.. Its you who has to tell them that you can speak tagalog, not keep it to youtself..

Fellow Iska here. Yung formal at malalalim na Filipino lit ay struggle din naman sa mga full Pinoy, born and raised in the Phils. Di ka nag-iisa. Sa PI100, bukod sa nakaka-alienate rin ang talinghaga ni Rizal ay kashokot ang mga prof. Noong time ko ang mga foreigner students lang na nakikita ko ay ang mga exchange, MA/MBA, certificate course students na nagdodorm sa IC. Didn’t meet any sa mga undergrad courses.

I am one among many foreigners students who studied in Manila. Though I myself is good enough on Tagalog, however, my complain was that the many professors, during the class, used to be spontaneously turned into Tagalog rather than English, and we had to raise our hand asking the professor to teach in English. 30% our my classmates were foreigners from Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Spain, etc.

Relate ako d'yan Juwonee. I, myself is also a Filipino Language Instructor here in the State University in my province so I've witnessed how my students struggles a lot in my subject. Maging pure Filipino students man ay nahihirapan din talaga pagdating sa Filipino Class kaya di ka nag-iisa 😊 I think most of my students, conversational lang din ang alam na Filipino kaya nangangamote rin sila sa subject ko 😂

I can relate your story but tagalog subject or Pilipino subject when I was in school only during high school yrs. Maybe it's a different curriculum now. It's so hard to study that subject specifically the very old tagalog words. Before we use Pilipino as a subject in school. Filipino/ Filipina as a person. I'm very bad too when it comes to this subject, my Spanish grades are higher than the Pilipino subject. But you're very smart to learn and speak fluent tagalog. Congrats you graduated from UP Diliman a very good university. I'm happy to watched your show. Keep up the good work and I'll see you in your next show❤
