Nice job on the roof fellas! I am surprised, though, that none of you wear an SCBA up there. I know they're heavy and cumbersome but those roof vent jobs are nasty, smoky SOBS! I've done several in my own city. Solid work though!

Stupid work all the way around. That fire should have been knocked down through those windows and then mopped up inside. No roof work necessary.

Man I never liked ventilating roofs specially when the smoke is so thick hard to see where you are going. That freaks me out.

Why don’t they ever seem to pull onto the block?

A lot of the streets in North Philly are barely big enough to drive a car down them let alone a 10' wide, 54' long ladder truck. We always try to make the front of the dwelling whenever possible but a 14' wide street with parked cars, trees and light poles makes things very difficult.

@@gillesrenaud6926 I think that is a very good statement. Its shocking to see guys doing this in 2021. No need to be on the roof in the first place, the fire is already venting from the top floor windows and has flashed over so just put the fire out.

@@andyoxleyonhistravels agree with the SCBA statement. But vertical vent still slows lateral fire spread and makes the temperature more tolerable for the engine. It still has a use

@@hihfty It's already venting fine so no need to put guys on a roof with fire beneath. That's how firefighters get killed for no reason. The fire is venting from windows and has flashed so far quicker to knock it back from outside with a jet through the window. If you look at the top of the windows they are only a few inches below ceiling level so going on the roof has no benefit as the heating and flames will vent perfectly well .

3:40 Fire is massively venting out the top floor windows. That room needs tank water through the windows, NOW! 5:17 The roof does NOT need venting, the top floor needs water through those windows. Where is your SCBA? Too busy playing hero to protect your lungs? 7:00 Can you imagine walking off the edge of the roof with this visibility? 7:11 ALL THE OFFICERS IN THIS DEPARTMENT NEED TO BE FIRED! 7:15 How about right now? One bad step and you are dead. How about stepping into one of the holes you cut and falling into the fire below? "Highly trained professionals." Yeah, right! 13:00 You trip with those boots on or from losing balance in that smoke and you are headfirst over the edge and onto the sidewalk. The good thing is, you'll get a nice parade out of your childishness and disrespect for your family. The roof work could have been completely eliminated as access to the cockloft could have been made through the ceiling below. Did you see any hoses on the roof? Not one set of SCBA amongst all these heroes.

You’re just an echo chamber for false information my friend. UL and IFSTA had to go back and revise verbiage because people were hanging onto the headline “you can’t push fire”. transitional attack is ONLY called for in single room with unidirectional flow. Heat and steam can be sent deep into tenable spaces preheating spaces and with more thermal energy than fire. The only exception being is for extreme volumes of fire. Take some actual certified fire behavior classes by UL and stop with your false bullshit on literally every single fire video ever. You’re dangerous to the younger generation.
