    This video surely shows the absurdity of the current tv deal set up? Can’t talk about the event just finished that brings you together who everyone watching this will know who has won! Needs a mayor rethink for the promotional aspect. Huge following and would only grow if live streams/ tv was available. The Sports evolved but promotions stayed the same.

    Strongest ever is too hard to call. The usual argument of different eras applies, but also you can say most years that a different set of events might have had a different result. Difficult to see weaknesses in Tom Stoltman though and it goes to show that training such as the Hercules Hold has really paid off. All credit to the Stoltman brothers and it was interesting to see Harry nearly keep up with Tom on grip in a recent video. May need to wait until near Christmas as usual to see the full show, but looking forward to it.

    Respectfully disagree with Colin here. 2018 Thor also won the Arnold's and WUS. He won every major contest that year in dominant fashion against the world's best. It truly looked like he would win no matter the events. Whereas I don't think Tom, as good as he is, would have won the Arnold's this year, even if he focused on it. Also, the WSM events were great for Tom. That's taking nothing away from Tom - he's an incredible strongman, and may yet surpass Thor. Just don't think he's done it yet!

He was an awful role-model, completely toxic. He definitely let the Strongman brand down. And what is he doing here? Smoking a cigar and changing the narrative about why he lost (surprise surprise, it was because he was injured). This would have been a whole lot better had someone like Big Loz (and Liz) been involved - both are brilliant ambassadors for Strongman, and much more genuine and wholesome.

    Ridiculous take from Colin about Tom eclipsing peak Thor. Tom is world class, but at his best (2018-20) Thor was the best strongman ever to live (read: best not greatest, that accolade of course belongs to Z). He was top 3 in the world in pressing, deadlifting, squatting, throwing, grip holds, yoke walks, stones, loading, vehicle pulls, circus dumbell, and distance carries when he retired. His weakest event was farmer's walks/frame carries where he'd routinely place around 4th. For every event that Tom is one of the best at currently, Thor was right up there too. Tom may well be better than Thor ever was at stones, maybe loading, perhaps a few other events. But these are all small small margins. There are only a few events Tom is conceivably better than peak Thor at and all of those events, Thor was still world class at. Meanwhile, Thor was far better than Tom is today at deadlifting, squatting, and dumbell. The deadlift in particular is a massive disparity and given both its prominence in the sport and Thor's consistency in every other event, it's hard to see Tom today being the more complete strongman.

    18:30 It's actually 50/50 among the best lifters (for males anyways) with more sumo lifters in the lower weight classes and more conventional lifters in the higher weight classes. Outside of the IPF, however, sumo profits more from softer and longer bars than conventional. And straps in training. That's how we're getting these ridiculous numbers. Not that Jamal or Wierzbicki wouldn't be ridiculous on a stiff bar but it's definitely a big factor. If one were to allow sumo in strongman, it'd probably have to be totally RAW on a stiff bar to not have sumo benefit more than conventional from reduced ROM, equipment etc.

  • @cammackk

    @cammackk

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good points, but I still think sumo should be allowed in strongman when we are talking deadlifts on bar. The reason is that I remember Eddie saying that strongman is about getting a weight from A to B that's why in strongman they can uses multiple belts, straps and a suit. If someone needs to uses a sumo stance to get the weight from A to B then so be it, and at the end of the day both sumo and conventional entail a person picking a weight up from the floor with their legs and torso locked straight.

    Tom Stoltman is cool, but he's not even the best current strongman. He's just the best at winning WSM, where the events favor his height and reach. Licis, Novikov, and Mateusz are better overall strongmen. If Stoltman can put it all together and win some other comps, it'll be a different story.
