    Tom is doing much the same approach , staying calm and cruising . He said that last year he used a lot of energy because he was on his own at night. This year he has his wife with him and can chill out as if he was at home. Luke is very different . I suppose you have to figure out what works for you. The walking to recover I can relate to. I’ve done a few long distance walks, 50 miles + and after a bit of a rest, food, a slow pace walk for say 10 mins really helped with recovery.

    I was thinking the same RE recovery - a lot of the older guys talk about how being younger with less training miles can get away without spending time on the extra recovery work, but as they have more training miles they need more and more. Love his attitude on the deadlift mind - I'm a strong believer that many people set limits in their mind which hold them back. Take the 100m sprint for example, everyone was happy running 9.8/9.9s 100's, then bolt comes along and sets 9.6. Suddenly others jump forward now they see its possible.

    If I’m understanding correctly, Mitch’s approach to recovery during competition is focused on staying calm and not overworking his nervous system. This makes a lot of sense, but part of the reason other guys get so worked up is that they need the boost that comes from artificially triggering their nervous system to be able to do what they do. The real question then, is what about his training and/or genetics allows him to get so strong that he can compete at an elite level without pushing as near the outer limits of his bodies ability as most other competitors? Not a tinfoil hat sort of question, I think the answer is probably a combination of one in a billion genetic ability and his athletic background and prior training history but it’s truly amazing.

  • @pathofthebarbell8289

    @pathofthebarbell8289

    I think it's pretty safe to say he has some of the best genetics the sport has seen. He's only been training strongman for 2.5 years and already pulled 475kg, is one of the absolute best in the world at yoke, solid on log and very strong overall, and he only weighs 315lbs...

  • @lukebbuff

    @lukebbuff

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@pathofthebarbell8289 Agreed. It reminds me a bit of an more sciencey version of Big Zs approach. You win or lose in training. On the day, you just show up and execute. Rarely push outside your safety zone, never surprised by your own results. If you have the combination of genetics and patience for it, seems like it would be the recipe for a long and dominant career.
