my own private river is all unused footage, original cut that James Franco and Gus Van Sant made of that was over 20 hours but Phoenix family uncomfortable with that and they had to cut it down to what it is now... unfortunately the original long version was only seen in several select film screenings so copy is not available :( shortened version and plenty of other deleted scenes still on youtube though

River hated his first name, he would ask his friends to call him RIO. But it is a great tribute that you have paid him, thank you

This made my cry. Seriously. Why? Don't know. I think I'm the only one here who burst into tears. It sucks to know I'll never meet him. Sucks real bad. But he's definitely changed my life in a way. Thank you, River Jude Phoenix. You are unforgettable.

When I cry I always think of River because it makes me cry harder and gets rid of all my negative emotion and when I’m happy I think of him because it reminds me how precious and beautiful life is. Stay strong 💛💛

It warms my heart to know that another person loves and appreciates him just as much as I do. Every time I see him I feel so many things. Thank you for making this video.

Riv would have been 49 today, if you only knew how much I have missed you, sleep tight angel, you are right where you belong, home forever.

I remember him from Stand By Me - One of my absolute favourite films of my childhood, that film always tugs on my heartstrings. It's so awful what happened to River. But good grief, looking at these photos and clips now, he was an immensely attractive young man wasn't he.

It’s heartbreaking! River was given enough drugs in that drink to kill a horse 😢 Absolutely awful tragedy! Especially as he didn’t even realize what he was drinking, until it was too mate. RIP River, I’ll always love yoi🙏😢💔

Wow, I truly had no idea, this young man had passed away. I remember seeing him the movie: "Stand by Me"..And thought he was absolutely an amazing actor...He would be my age today, I'm so sorry ..I had no Idea. A very Sharp looking young man.

Joe Jones Did you know that Jack Dawson’s character in Titanic was written for River in mind? As was MAN IN THE IRON MASK, both roles were played by Leo, who adored River. I only wish now that River gets Justin for his death😢🙏💔

30 years this month the world lost him. I was a 17 year old teenage girl when he passed. Devastating. He had so much more to give. Sometimes it feels so unfair. He was so talented that no one else had a chance. His next film after Dark Bloods was interview with a vampire. They were looking at him to do The basketball Dairies an James Cameron had him in mind while writing the script for Titanic.

I’ve often said that River always looked like he had the weight of the world on his young shoulders. Being the family’s bread winner couldn’t have been easy, too much pressure for a young man 😢💔

The desert scenes are difficult to watch, as they were the last scenes he filmed before he died. Absolutely beautiful tribute to a beautiful man! Thank you🙏❤️

Great job! The loss of this young man was a tragedy for everyone. So much talent, gone in an instant.
