when Stromae was 9 he's dad died in the Rwanda war, his mother then lied to him for almost a decade saying that he's dad is just workin, the dancing part is to mean that these mothers/fathers are dancing with their sons/daughters and the kid wants to dance with his dad but he's dad sent really there.

Stromae is literally a GENIUS. I knew this song, but then my French teacher taught me more songs like Tous Les Mêmes for example, highly recommended, and I thought it was incredible. He was also involved in Hostage's mv, he said he really likes Billie's work hehe. Also, "Où est ton papa?" Is not saying Where is dad literally, it's a kind of pun on French more or less. Good video as always

I’m Belgian : Stromae and Angele are the two Belgian artists I love. Their lyrics are brilliant, smart and deep. Because they sing in French makes them more complicated to get the international credits they deserve. Their songs are catchy but sad. I hope you enjoy !

Poor apple, it is precisely because he sings in French that he has this fame. And that France gave him a springboard, like most Belgian artists. His last album sold around 3 million albums. including more than 2 million in France, you know what I mean? Faut pas cracher dans la soupe.

Hello, hello! The dad of the kid is in a way there, but he's not a good dad, not one that he knows a lot about, which makes him seem 'stiff'. In the end, the kid being brought up by this bad father ends up more like him. I love the song a lot, I relate to the song a lot and the dancing is absolutely sick, as well as the colors. So glad you reacted to it!

This man is his father whom Stromae had never met, killed in the Rwanda genocide. He later, at the end of a tour, went to Rwanda on the last phase of his tour and for the first time spoke about his father. Very sad story. After this lengthy tour, Stromae had a burn out after 200 concerts in 2 years. Apparently he is bringing out a new record - thank heavens to get new material from this genius.

k, so about that song : Good intuition about that song being about personal stuff, Stromae is indeed talking about his own father. He was killed in the Rwanda genocide, but he actually abandonned Stromae family a long time before that (Stromae saw him just a few times, and suffered more from the abandon part than from the actual death). The mannequin IS a mannequin, they just switch with stromae for the dance part, so no #MannequinSkill :P And about that mannequin, well i feel you can see it in a lot of different ways. Thats one thing i like about Stromae, there is a lot left to interpretation (especially if you speak the language lol)... But as I see it : the mannequin IS the absence of the father. Because its such a weight, its almost physical. Hes not here, but that doesnt stop the kid to think about him all the time. Its a burden, and he cant get rid of it. Through the song, you can see a lot of kid/parent duo having their own dance : it represent the way parents educates the kids (for exemple the guy being REALLY oppressive/controling with his kid). And Stromae-kid? Well, he doesnt have that, and you can see him dreaming about having some way to connect with his father (hence the dance part), but in the end, the father is still a mannequin, never really here. And its a kind of education on his own... Sorry if my english is weird, bisous de france :)

You keep saying that you don't know but we can all agreed that you do know!!! At 2:18 of the video, you can see the kid watching, through the windows, 2 groupe of dancer, 1 father and son dressed very cute, working and helping eachother, and onether dancer where the father beats his son... In both way, they are given them attention, for a kid that mean everything for him to grow without emotionnel disorder. So he's having a dad but it don't feels like he's caring about him, growing up without a father or with a father is the same pain if he's doesn't love you and giving you attention that you need, So then the circle repeats himself. I can feel the anger in the beat and in his voice and in choreagraphy. Everybody fight about Stromae, French people say that he's french cause he's talking french and belgium people said that he's belge.. well cause HE IS BELGE he is from Belgium... I'm so glad that you do European Music (nobody gets offended in that way lol) , you should definitly check on some french and UK music!!

It is about a missing father. The soccer is the activity/sport to do with his dad, but it is a statue, metaphor of his absence. Papaoute means "where are you daddy". It is autobiographical to Paul whose father was absent.

That what i called a real good reaction. You try to understand deeply and you analyse. Stromae is a real artiste, with a true identity. I think the next stepp for you is to react to "Tous les mêmes" and after "ta fête". If you want to react to "Ave Cesaria" you have to read before a short biography of Cesaria Evora, she was a famouse Singer from Cape Verde. For me the ultmate Stromae song is "Defiler" but you need to find the subtitles somewhere else, they are not on the video. Cheers from Switzerland bro
