Stripping and Refinishing a Kitchen Table | Using Fusion Liming Wax To Tone Down Orange Wood

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I don't know if orange wood furniture was ever in style. I don't even know what 'style' that falls under....country chic without the chic...and which country? You might remember that orange is my favourite colour...but not this orange.
But when it's free, I can overlook Doritos orange decor! Yes, a free table. From a dumpster.
I'm starting with a free orange kitchen table and hoping to end with a muted, modern project table.
These projects always begin with sanding. Changing the colour of furniture can make a piece time travel from the 80's straight into Instagram worthy posts today. Therefore, I sand. A lot.
The difference was shocking.
Another shock was the effort it took to strip the orange out of the legs.
I started with Easy-Off oven cleaner. The method is spray a generous coat to cover the wood. Wait about 20-30 minutes and then rinse with water. I took it a step further and scrubbed instead of just rinsing. I found this grout brush and these scrub pads the most helpful.
But this wasn't enough to get into all the detailing. Paint stripper time. I coated the legs really well and wrapped them in plastic, by plastic I mean plastic shopping bags. I left this to sit for about an hour. To my stripping arsenal I added a 9-in-1 scrapper. I had to repeat this step too.
Yes, it took two rounds of oven cleaner, followed by two rounds of paint stripper. And I still wasn't done. I sanded, again, a lot. I spent almost a a day per leg!!!
Alright, legs stripped. Time to stain.
On Pinterest, I saw someone use Aged Wheat to refinish a dresser and I loved the finish. Quick trip to Home Depot. Of course, I picked up a few plants too. They need forever homes....
Who would have thought Aged Wheat means green? I ended up staining an orange table green. Every time the table would get wet the orange would glow nuclear. I needed a fix. Of course, Fusion to the rescue. In the form of Liming Wax. Brush on and then buff after 4-5 minutes. And wow! What a difference!
I also used Fusion Mineral paint in Algonquin for around the table. My project table is ready!
