    Hell yeah brother!! It’s crazy how many times boats will come right up to us and ask where the bite is and I tell them to look at their screen. So many guys say, “hold on, let me turn it on”. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ for some reason a very small number of people rely on sonar, even in 2022. It must be a lack of marketing. Few people realize how good sonar is nowadays.

    To my knowledge outside of Kast masters, in the 70's 80's and 90's spoons of that type weren't sold or even made for east coast striper fishing. Do you think a simple white bucktail jig would have work just as well?

    I’ve never seen anything work better when large bait schools are present. We’ve been having 50-100 fish afternoons for around 4 years since we tried these in the salt. These spoons were designed by Ben Parker for Largemouth Bass if you can believe that.

    To locate striper on lake Texoma is similar correct? Just drive till I find them, creek channels, lake points, and this time of year maybe the upper half of the lake because in February they start migrating up the river to spawn?

  • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS

    @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS

    That’s more of a summer-fall pattern. For winter you want to think shallow. Get way in the back of the creeks. Find creeks with baitfish in the them. Go back until you find the bait. In mid day the shallow water warms with the sun and the Shad will go up on the banks to warm up. That’s where you need to put your baits. Less than 2 feet of water to around 15 ft. On points. Once water temps reach upper 50’s start to fish the main lake points on the upper end moving WAY up the lake and WAY up the creeks when water hits 60. They will makes a spawning run up the lake, but also up the creeks. If you have little current they get confused and end up the creeks on most lakes as well as main lake 👍👍👍

    Unfortunately I don’t run charters anymore because I never really know where I’ll be and for how long. It makes it impossible to fill a schedule. I’m shooting videos all over the east coast full time right now. Sorry I couldn’t help. If you plan on fishing with your own boat, I can help get you dial in on new spots that you want to fish, and you’re always welcome to fish along side of us in your boat. I have an epic network so i can get accurate reports all year from many bodies of water. Fresh and salt. 👍👍

    Thanks Bill, I can be a bit neurotic when trying to get dialed in. It’s funny how everyone kind of stays away from me in the beginning 🤣. I never notice it until I watch the footage back. I get tunnel vision I guess. I think I’ll post my body cam footage for the first hour for a good laugh. Most people probably won’t get it, but more hard core guys like you might get a chuckle. To pay it forward (thank you for all your insight and help Mike Smedly and team!) I will share what some people already know, but so many don't. The Scooby Through Rig. I have been using it for the past 2 years and now any time I'm using a jig-head @ 1 oz or less, I use these. They cast better (noticeable your first cast) and what you cant see but with with time can feel the bait swim and sink more effectively. Even when I am fishing from a boat and dropping a soft plastic down, these work significantly better because the weight is centered (or can be held wherever you want) on the bait. Although you cant buy these that I know of, they are incredibly easy to make. Here is the link kzread.info/dash/bejne/jK1hyruFdbHOfpc.html&ab_channel=TackleAdvisors

    I hate when I see fisherman catch a fish and they start pumping there poles up down like idiots. Their going to lose the fish. I see guys do this all the time and they wonder why they lose fish. I get it trust me it's fun but it's a stupid technique.

    I’m not sure about other people, but pump and take is necessary with light gear. With only 3-4 lbs of drag it’s just not possible to hold the rod and crank. The spool won’t turn. Pump and take relieves pressure so you can take line. Pump the rod and take with the reel handle. 👍👍👍

    0:08 Mike I believe your the guy I need to ask this question to and I hope you can follow my crazy mind set lol.I absolutely love throwing glide baits but my biggest problem is keeping them at the depth of 15 feet plus,I’ve tried weighing them with stick on weights and heavy hooks but still not maintaining the depthI want to achieve,I want try using (Leadcore) but I have zero experience with it,the baits I use are 8”-10” 6-8 oz. I watch a few salt water videos and maybe running 3 colors might achieve it,any how your my guy to ask,if you want to message you on Instagram to go more in-depth that’s fine with me,thank you buddy
