I like Joe's dynamism in his shooting style. Keeping things fast paced and changing quickly keeps the shoot fun and creative.

Thats how i shoot too
This is a Master of light in action and yet so modest! Loved the last set of photos.

I agree ..he is master of the light and no 1 in the world
Wow, I feel embarrassed that I have only just discovered Joe via this video, been a huge fan of Daniel's for ages. Such a great video (and the others in the shoot). The communication from Joe towards the models is sublime.
Mr. McNally, the wizard of light!
Awesome as usual with Big Joe McNally. Can't wait to try this !
Movable clam-shell lighting....lol. Love it! I never thought to do that when I did studio work. Great job both Joe and Daniel! I've just added that nugget to my arsenal.
So awesome to watch you both work your magic, excellent video, thanks Joe and Daniel!
Help I'm getting addicted to these videos!
Brilliant read, and correction on the skin reflectivity. When I first saw what you saw, I (wrongly) thought, "Oh, it's a little underexposed." Moving the subjects was a great choice, and also later rotating them to a slightly different angle worked really well. That's why I watch what you do! Thanks. :)
watching Joe work so effortlessly is so amazing! Always loving your work, Adorama teams! :)

The portraits 3/4 in were much better than the earlier shots. The earlier shots were dark and gritty. The later flat lighting was complimentary as well as the contoured lighting on the man.
Love this series! so entertaining and informative. thank you
Love strip lighting
Brilliant series!

I've always thought that. Its all I can think about when I watch one of his videos.
Joe is a legend
McNally makes it seem so easy
Awesome video! You guys are extremely talented photographers and also teachers... but where is the picture of Joe and Daniel? I thought that would be the end credits the way you were talking.
Haha! Andreas, suckin' up all the light.
Terrific thanks gents
what a nice guy
Awesome technique, how did you attach the bottom stripbox to the C-stad?
What lens is Joe using? I figure it is some sort of fast wide angle lens. I like the colours it's putting out.
6:25 You will never learn this from the most populars KZreadrs. They only "review" equipment for sponsors and hotlinks. Joe is a real Master of Photography!
Nice video--love Joe's (and your) work. Question--earlier in the shoot you and Joe were concerned about losing hair in the black background, but when you switched to clamshell, you didn't add a separation light--curious whether you chose that because you felt that it was unnecessary in the clamshell set up because of the nature of the look, or perhaps you were just staying consistent with the 2 strip box theme and didn't want to add a 3rd light?

I'd say it was a little of both. Sometimes when you start a session you have something in mind and as it progresses , you sometimes move in a slightly different direction.

They both are blondes, so is not a big deal with black background. If they was brunette he probably need to add a third light for hair.
Great info as ever - particularly interesting to see the difference in reflectivity for apparently similar skin tones. Thanks!
what lens is Joe using at 9:12 ? Looks like a wide angle zoom but which one?
wow
Would the pictures still result the same if the subjects were about 2 or 3 feet from the background?
What lens is being used for these portraits? Thanks
Hey guys what’s the name for the stand that holds the two stripboxes? Or where can I buy the whole combo?
These look like bigger then the 1x3 strips no? More like 1x6.. description might be wrong...

Much more than 1 foot wide, too.
Good content, Adorama. But the 4K doesn't help a lot with rolling shutter, shaky camera movement and dull colors. Maybe use a different camera next time.
Irrelevant to photography, but Norton my GF said you'd look real good with a Brixton hat
what lent is he using in the video?

Relocs 2 Seems like Nikon 85mm 1.4 or new 105mm 1.4. Cheers

Been playing with the new 105mm f1.4...ridiculously good lens, lots of fun to shoot.
Joe not using a tripod.
Model looks a lot like Vera Farmiga.

Iso.... Haw much and f lens
Am guessing he's working TTL, and that's why the exposition changed when the models switched places..?

Actually no, Joe is shooting manual flash and the light output did not change, some people are just more reflective than others. It's a pretty cool phenomenon
6:22 is BS!! a setting was changed
Daniel, for the love of everything holy, please get a haircut. It's just not working for you.
