Unsettling: it’s a word which can be used to describe a good swathe of the music which has come from the mind of Greg Mackintosh (Paradise Lost) over the years, but in the context of Strigoi, it feels particularly apt. Formed immediately after previous side project Vallenfyre had run its course, Strigoi found Greg and Vallenfyre bassist Chris Casket reconfiguring the aesthetics of that band. Their 2019 debut, Abandon All Faith, was a notable transition, taking the crust punk, death metal and grind influences which had defined Vallenfyre and deriving from those an extreme music amalgam which was altogether more...well, unsettling. But if Abandon All Faith was a record where the memory of Vallenfyre exerted an inevitable, but important, influence, then second album Viscera is where Strigoi define and express themselves on their own terms.

This is Greg’s world and we’re all just living in it.
This is EASILY the best melodic doom death metal I've ever heard. So no question it wins that title for the year and is inevitably untouchable. That's a pretty specific genre though, so I'll go further to say this is the best 2022 doom album period. Ben and Greg have the midas touch. Everything they touch is gold. Together they're an unstoppable force. I hope to see them perform together very soon.
Hi there, I really love your music and your production level. Everything is deep, melancholic, melodious with a solid and heavy base. In 2017, I was the guitarist of the French band Arkhon Infaustus. I haven't felt this for a long time, you touched something hard to reach. Thanks STRIGOI for this listening experience.

Josh Church: F'N BAD ASS!!! One of my favorite releases of the year.
I didnt even realize Gregor had created a new band until two days ago when I saw the review for this on Angry Metal Guy. Between this, Vallenfyre, and obviously Paradise Lost, this guy is one of my hands down favorite guitar players.
The melodic parts are incredible respect and support from Greece!
