Stretching Shrink Tubing To Fit
Ғылым және технология
In this FPV drone building tips video we'll talk about stretching shrink tubing to fit. There are many benefits to using this technique. The biggest one being that you don't have to stock so many shrink tube sizes. The second one, and likely the most beneficial, is that you can achieve a thinner walled shrink tubing job which is better for electronic component cooling. Stretching 1:1 shrink tubing to fit is better than using a higher ratio shrink tubing like 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 or other.

Thanks for mentioning 1:1, 2:1 etc. This was my question about shrink tubing, then you went on to answer my question about how to use it for oversized components. Thanks so much!
Found an improvement to this tip, do the same but under running hot water or i guess air would do the trick too, stretched it 4x + to the size in 1/5th of the time without a tear after 4 un succesful tries without the running hot water

Interesting. I have to try that.
AWESOME video on stretching shrink tubing!!! This is the easiest and best video I've seen on the subject. Short, to the point, and it really works!

take a small vise and cut a 1/4" metal rod in half, so as to two 180 degree pieces...weld those pieces to the vise and you have a great, easy way to constantly stretch tubing. Another tip is to heat the tubing to about 150 degrees to allow for more flexibility when stretching. We do this on a daily basis in our shop and can achieve great results.
This is what I was looking for. Thank you!

Awesome. I use this technique for building guitar rigs now... which I'm doing a lot of lately.

@@DannyCruzCreations That’s what got me started w heat-shrink tubing. Now I’m fixing family members’ USB cables 😆

@@BogoEN Ah nice. Haha. I can't tell you how much stuff I fixed with heat shrink tubing all around the house. lol.
I use this idea alot and originally got from you in your tbs unify video me thinks. Great help👍😉
Thank you MR . SHRINK ! I got it ! 👍👍👍
thank you for this very easy and helpful tip! saved me a lot !
Very good idea danny thanks
Thanks man as really needed this video to know how to do it right.
So helpful! Thank you!
great man, it worked perfectly. Thank you
Well done. Thanks.
Very helpful tip. Thanks

Welcome! This is one of those things I've been doing for so long that I take for granted. Glad I got the idea to share it.
Thanks a bunch!
Here's another option: My single Needle Nose plier wasn't long enough to stretch the piece that I needed to stretch. The shrink tore pretty soon (maybe I just wasn't patient enough). I needed another plan... two long strong steel rods - a pair of 6-Inch nails (or similar, depending on requirements). You put one through from each side of the shrink wrap tube.... they need to stick out about half and inch on each end. THEN... you twist them a little across eachother making a shallow "X". With this shallow "X", you take a second pair of 6" nails and put them in the "V" shapes on each side, and start to twist that second set clockwise and anti-clockwise. Essentially when the original 2 nails are parallel to each other and and the second pair of nails are parallel to eachother (and the two sets are perpendicular to eachother), you have pretty much reached the maximum stretch you could accomplish with your implements. If this has not stretched it enough.... find something thicker to use as the second set... and then just rinse-and-repeat.
I have the opposite problem. I crashed my Eachine Wizard X220s and 2 esc's are burnt out. There is this purple shrink tubing material around the esc's that I need to get into without tearing it apart. So in short, I need to know how to widen shrink tubing that's already been shrunken. I'm open to any ideas, thanks.
Thank You So Much… It Worked!

Welcome. I use this technique for all kinds of things... including guitar rig wiring. Not just for drones.

@@PinchTune Cool!
Would a warmer room temperature , such as 70 degree room to 80 degree assist in an easier time trying to stretch tubing ??
The higher ratio tubing is more brittle because it's already pre-stretched.
Used scissors and worked good. Takes a while tho and snapped one trying to go too fast.

Right. Scissors can work. You just have to go slow since they are either narrower or have sharp edges and can snap the tubing.
I do this too, because my shrink tube is always just baaaaaarely to small for what I’m trying to wrap. Haha
Not working with the black Polyolefin tubes
I do this as well :D
👍
Is it okay to shrink tube a gps sensor?, does it worsen the satellite reception?

If it was 1:1 wouldnt it not shrink at all?

Higher number of the ratio must be with decimal point and rounded off to call it 1:1
At last! A hot air gun, all these guys using gas flames... crazy.

Yeah, I always use a heat gun. In fact, I would like to find one with a narrower nozzle. Last week I used a flame in a pinch for a quick fix on a guitar, but I don't like using a flame... It heats up the shrink tubing too fast making it hard to control.
I do that too. I realize I can't shrinking tube everything :P
too bad frys no longer has anything in it ;(

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't know why I mentioned them... habit. I stopped going to Fry's after the last 3 visits. On all 3 counts, they were out of shrink tubing, no MG Chemicals flux remover and no MG Chemicals conformal coating. That place is a giant ghost town. But they do have plenty of "As Seem on TV" gadgets.
