Stressful Rescue of New Born Hamsters! | Munchie's Place

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Rescue work is never easy. We see plenty of neglected situations in regards to animal rehomes on platforms where animal sales are prohibited. As a small volunteer based Rescue, my team and I are put to the challenge of facing scary situations and people who simply do not care about the welfare of animals. In this video we will discuss what it's like to rescue animals off of second hand sites and what these poor Syrian hamsters had to go through, in order to get here.
This is a two part video. A follow up video will be available in the future.

The spiders will have been housed alone. Those spiders are tarantulas, and they are cannibalistic and like Syrians, need to be alone. Those prices are pretty normal for those tarantula species. (I used to own tarantulas here in the uk). I am so glad you guys did the best you could do for those poor hamsters. x

Yes I get so many kittens that people purposefully seperated from mom I've gotten a couple litters where the person WAITED from the mom to leave than just grabbed the kittens. Also I've seen people allow very harmful behavior like sibling nursing and won't stop it because "it's so cute" or "so funny" even when they're informed of the very real risks to the animals health 😐

So many people don't realize you must never remove newborn animals from their mothers for even a second, or even just get close to them. When people think of labour and newborns, they think of doctors and nurses at a hospital, of the baby and mother needing the help of others. But humans are a huge exception, not the rule. Most of the bad rescues on this channel make me sad and angry. I think this one might have just taken the top place. Not just because of the terrible 'care', but especially the attitude of that woman. I can't imagine what it would be like if someone else, a normal (not a rescue) person responded to the ad and had this 'surprise' dumped on them.

It’s all natural decor and they get the best quality food with veggies and fruit. They have become sweethearts🐹❤️ I keep them for as long as they live. Now i have in total 5 hamsters. 4 Syrians and 1 dwarf hamster. I spend over a €150,- for each hammie. I can barely afford food for myself but they are my life! I love them so much

My rabbit was unintentionally neglected for the first almost 2.5 years of his life. He was emotionally, dietary and physically neglected but even with all that neglect he was always very loving and such a brave boy. Sadly when he developed kidney failure his very sensitive GI Tract from the neglect was damaged as a result of the kidney failure. My aunt tried to care for him but with the little knowledge she had she neglected him.

I was just browsing on Facebook market place and because Facebook decided to steel my data they showed some hamster things. What I saw was not as horrible as other breeders but still had improper care. There were about 8 112sq inch enclosures and each one had two dwarf hamsters. They were selling one of the enclosures but they decided to take a photo of all of them showing the dwarf hamsters and... their babies. Of course I contacted the people and nicely tried to inform them and it turned out the person who was breeding these hamsters was an 8 year old child. I tried to explain and I said that pet stores really care about profit more then they actually do the animals. They started doubting me and saying that I was wrong and they refused to change their care. It really works me when people just can’t take criticism and they don’t even bother to check against their judgement.

Poor hammies and poor you guys for going through that. Its just incredible hard to realise each time that there are people that just dont know how to deal with animals. Or they just dont care I dont know but it makes me angry a lot. I see those things as well and I talk to those people. I want to make sure that people can ask me questions if they want to know more and stuff. And happily I have had many questions from people hamsterowners that wanted some information so it is working. By the way I rescued mice onces and I wanted to rescue a group of mice from someone that needed to get rid of them and then suddenly there was a highly pregnant female and then suddenly there were also 5 babies already there.. so people keep that quiet more often. They were all alive though. 8 babies were born in my care and they grew up. Babies die when they dont get milk or dont get the warmth from the mother since the pups cam regulate their body temperture. I do must say that for many people that those advice can sound hard and meen. Especially when you do this in the form of a message instead of saying it in person. They cant hear your tone. It could sound angry in their heads when they read your comment even though it wasnt meant that way. Sometimes I hate snake owners especially how they tend to treat rodents as far as I have seen :(

We had a rescue that was dropped at a pet store. The store wasn't one that had an adoption program so they tried to direct the person to an animal shelter... which was about 15 minutes down the road. The person told them that either they could take the hamster or he could take it home and drown it. Needless to say, the store took the animal then one of the employees promptly called me. People suck sometimes.

Is there any way you can report them to the police? This is straight out animal abuse and I get the feeling this person is an animal hoarder. She should have all her animals taken away and banned from them because she has no remorse for her bad actions.

Hi Munchie, I've watched a lot of your videos but am yet to see one of handling/taming. Is this something you have done, or may do in the future? I have a hard time taming my hamsters and always feel like I'm stressing them out. Any advice would be great!

How many babies were there? If she gets back to 100% you need to name her something that means strong like Matilda. Matilda means might power or battle. Just a suggestion.

Interesting I never knew that. I had a litter before and one of the babies was half the size of all the rest and we didn’t think she would make it but eventually she pulled through and we named her miracle since it’s a miracle she made it :)

I adopt rescue hamsters. My Syrian died last week of a prolapse due to previous owner constantly breeding from her on a breeding rack. When I first got her she couldn't walk properly or spin on a wheel so I had to rehabilitate her. For the time zi had her she was loved and happy and despite everything she was a great companion. It just makes me sick to think how many suffer because people don't care.

As someone who intends on rescuing small and exotic animals when able to: I know snakes gotta eat, but f/t is much better, and it's at least worth a shot to try and transition a snake to it instead of feeding live, and if you do have to do it live, you want the care of the feeders to be outstanding. Like I don't want cheese that's molded from a dirty old fridge, your snake doesn't want a raunchy sickly rodent from a dirty old cage.

How sad! I had a similar situation I have 8 girls rats in total and I seen someone who had an “accidental litter” long story when I went to pick up two baby rat girls ther person who I have been talking too was a teenager and she was just breeding the rat to make money 😡 the baby were very stressed not socialized and wanted nothing to do with me so I bonded them with three of my younger girls who I got from a breeder so they were able to show the babies how to be confident rats but to this day they still don’t want nothing to do with me which is ok cause I love ☺️

I'm so. Pissed isn't the word to fully describe how I feel, but it'll have to do. This person WILLINGLY put 2 hamsters together to breed, put them in danger via their awful and dangerous "enclosure", disturbed the nest and possibly touched newborn pups, didn't warn the volunteer about the babies, and gaslit everyone because they weren't applauded for their shitty behavior. Narcissism and greed at its finest! I get so pissed at people who don't do any research when they get a pet and are like " oh I'll learn as I go". No. That's selfish and entitled of people to risk harming another being without knowing how to take care of that other being! I don't care if it's "just a dog"; the pet never asked to be born. The BARE MINIMUM of decency and respect is to learn and implement how to properly take care of them. I don't care how cute baby hammies are. This situation was avoidable if this person wasn't a selfish entitled brat

I saw a video saying that if you touch newborn hamsters the mother will reject them since she will smell your scent rather than hers on them. If you must move the babies for some reason use a spoon.

poor babies :( I went on Craigslist today and there is an ad for what seems to be like this person had 2 accidental litters, one litter seems to be a month old and the other one looks like the babies were born last week. it just makes me sad because that might mean they had 4 hamsters together in a 10 gallon tank, they are Syrian too which makes it worse :( I want to adopt one of the adults or babies because there are at least 9 in one litter so they might not all go to good homes. I hope it’s not a similar situation to this but based on the pictures they provided it seems kind of similar to this situation 😔

Hey Munchi, what would you reccomend for cleaning a senior hamster's bottom? I've got a female syrian hamster who is reaching 2 years old in a couple of months and she has a dirty bottom now. I've done some research and found to use either baby wipes or pet wipes, and I picked up a small packet of unscented baby wipes
