Street Running: Geeps vs Alcos part 1

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On a cold day in October,I was able to capture the Norfolk Southern/ Livonia Avon & Lakeville street running exchange in Painted Post, NY with a better camera as well as two GP 38-2s of the Norfolk Southern, which have a slightly different horn than the GP 40s I more often see here. The two Alco Centurys of the L, A, &L certainly make their presence known as they make their way down Chemung Street. They sound pretty impressive, though my eardrums prefer the more mellow tones of the Geeps. Here is a link to technical data for the alco c424. This pair were originally Erie Lackawanna

around 2:58 in the video, as the engines pass by the camera, you can see a red light between the track and the sidewalk ahead of them. It's synchronized to the traffic light. When it turns from red to yellow, the traffic lights are all red. The engines sound their warning, then proceed. On the return trip, the engines wait for the green traffic signal which stops traffic on Hamilton Street, then they proceed across.

We have full on street rails in certain sections of Gretna, LA. I take the kids in the truck and we drive down the middle with the wheels on the trackage. The Boys love it. It's a short line that runs slow here and easy to spot so nothing unsafe or wrong. One day we got to tail a freighter heading out for the chem plants. At a safe distance of course but close enough for hte kids in the back seat to think that we had actually coupled to the consist.

B&H was obtained by the LA&L around 1996, LA&L lists it as an affiliate RR but is the owner.

@EL3679 I agree! They certainly do let their presence be known! The engineers of the LA &L (Norfolk Southern too) are very friendly and courteous as well. I've seen them many times bring their trains to a halt if they see children playing anywhere near this area and wait till any danger is past.

I like watching rail fan videos every now and then. There might be a way to improve these videos and get rid of the pillar bars on the sides of the video player. If you go to the "Edit" feature for each video, you will find the "Tags" box. Add this to the tags. yt:stretch=16:9 It wont hurt anything but it should correct the aspect ratio.
