Streamlight PolyTac: Solid EDC, HUGE Pocket Clip

The Streamlight PolyTac is a small-to-medium sized EDC light that has a handful of nice features. It has 3 output options - Low (14 lumens), High (275 lumens), and strobe. It comes in black, coyote (which looks a bit O.D. green to me), and yellow. The pocket clip is my favorite feature - it's long and therefore gives you security when it in a pocket or on your gear. Check it out!

    Streamlight makes some really nice lights. I like that it's slightly 'fatter' than some other EDC lights, seems better to keep a grip on. Pretty bright light, too! Thanks for sharing!

    Great review. I just bought this flashlight at Cabelas, I was not fully understanding how to switch between modes, but your instructions were spot-on. Awesome, thanks!

    I have this one in black as well as the ProTac HL which I let my mom have when I upgraded to the ProTac HL 3. I also had a couple of their keychain lights as well. The only Keychain flashlight I consider worth the investment. As you can see I'm pretty much a die hard streamlight nut. It's simple. You can thoroughly beat up their lights and they simply don't quit.

    Amazing light for the money nothing I would change but a color red for search and rescue would be nice.

    I have the same version and carried it in my front left jeans pocket. The clip would get caught on the seat belt in my truck and bend out to 90* angle from the flashlight. After bending it back into place a couple of times the clip broke. Now I use it in conjunction with an ELZETTA mount on my AR15.

    EverydayTacticalVids It is a very secure way of mounting a light to an AR equipped with GI type hand guards. It mounts to the front sight/gas block.

    Excellent review. About the only thing I would change is to bump the lumen output to 325 to be comparable to the Surefire GX2. If Streamlight could do that without increasing the price more than $5.00 it would kill the GX2.

    With that clip I think I would end just leaving it on a backpack. Tim you should check out the Coast HP7R pen light. It seems like it will end up being a favorite small rechargeable utility flash light.

    4 months later, how is the PolyTac holding up? Do you think it will be as durable and reliable as the Surefire G2X?

    +Battle Rattle It's still solid, but man - Surefire is hard to match. Both will be good, but I'd take a Surefire over almost anything.

    The cr123's aren't too bad if you buy in bulk online. Also one of my local gun shops carries them in the actual streamlight brand for cheaper than what Walmart does. I don't know what brand Walmart carries but I have yet to be disappointed with streamlight branded batteries.

    You say it's solid EDC, Tim, and yet it only takes primary batteries. That's as far from solid EDC as you can reasonably get. "Durable", maybe, but definitely not "solid". Go the rechargeable route or go home.

    +Gunner193 I can see that, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. Good construction, easy function, and accessible batteries makes it solid to me. My top choice? Nope, but not a bad option.

  • @DinnerForkTongue

    @DinnerForkTongue

    EverydayTacticalVids I heavily question the "accessible" part of the batteries when in most of the world, you have to mail-order them, and even then they're usually at a full dollar per unit, if not more, for a quality brand. They're good for long-term storage, yes, but "long-term storage" and "EDC" are complete and utter antonyms. Such expensive batteries for regular use are wasted money. In comparison, every place with a functioning wall outlet, be it fueled by the normal power grid or a generator, has the potential to recharge a non-primary battery, and AA and AAA cells can be find at any convenience store. When you have a light with rechargeable AA/AAAs, it's a double whammy. I imagine it's best we agree to disagree on this.

  • @EverydayTacticalVids

    +Gunner193 I stand corrected - I was thinking it too AA batteries. I agree - CR123s are not nearly as easy to get. Good catch.
