if your soil is dead (like rock hard clay, or sand) you should add organic materials like compost and mix it in. Water it often. you can buy and add earthworms when the soil is ready for aeration and to improve its fertility as well.

I was thinking the same thing! Where I live in NC, we have that red clay and there can be some rocks mixed in, too. It’s a pain in the butt, so I always try to water it down before digging. However, if my dirt were like that in the video, I’d never complain. 😂

My dirt is clay and rocks so it is such a pain to dig especially when your digging a koi pond

@@lumpkanella69 Same here, and on top of that the previous owners of my house decided to put rubble into the ground when they broke down a small garden house right where my pond sits 🤦🏻

I would love to have a water feature. I find listening to them is so relaxing

i thought I came to watch a small water feature be built, but found myself entranced by the process and got distracted with the whole backyard renovation. This was lovely.

Good too see great veterans in the industry still properly building projects the correct way!

I love your videos! You have to be the most patient man on the planet! All that work you do by hand and by yourself... Rare quality these days!!!

After watching dozens of these water feature videos, this is by far the most detailed. There are steps shown that are not even touched on in other videos. So smart to place more fabric on the liner and under the stones to prevent any damage to the liner. Thank you so very much for sharing such a helpful video!

Go watch Atlantis Water Gardens. He tells you that do step by step but they dont show you long ass clips of it. This water feature is a joke

it amazes me seeing the soil in other places. I live in Phoenix AZ and when you dig in my backyard its nothing but desert dirt and round rocks. then you get to a certain depth and its all clay. we don't have rich soil out here, its all dead, brown and dry.

I’ve wanted to build a stream like this for my dogs who love water and love to walk through water but not necessarily swim in it. That and it seems to be better lasting than the old school ponds that always fail

it's easy to add the stream to a pond but in this case the customer wanted no pond for safety reasons

When nature takes over. It should start to soften the stones and looks more natural. By moss growing on the stones or the stones turning green. Also the plants starts to fill out 👍👍

It's a really nice stream, I would like mines to be larger with a more natural water connection if I'm next to a natural stream or such. Also flows nicely with the pond.
