Yeah he was also weak and faint. either the runt of the bunch or maybe got in a fight, I think he was very thirsty so the strawberries were a juicy treat for sure

Whatever happened with this little guy? The strawberry was a good choice as we use various sugar water mixes and diluted fruit juices to properly re-hydrate baby squirrels and stabilize their blood sugar levels before giving them formula so they don't die of complications. They get extremely weak when their blood sugar levels drop, so that sweet strawberry juice may have given him the energy boost he needed to start searching and calling for his mom. Unfortunately he's too young for solid food though. That's why he was just licking it and not taking any substantial bites. He's also too young to regulate his own body temp and seriously shouldn't be outside of the nest. At this age/size he could die of hypothermia in just a few hours, even if its not cold outside. In captivity you have to keep them on a heating pad or in an incubator for the first couple months of their life to simulate mothers body heat. I have a male with me right now named Earl that's about 9 months old and he'll be ready for release this spring. When he lost his family he was so desperate for warmth that my friend found him trying to spread out in the middle of a four lane highway just to feel the heat of the road.

It was summer so hopefully he was warm enough, and his siblings or nest were nearby , maybe he was the runt or possibly attacked by something, we kinda left him in nature so I’m not sure what became of him

@@613Builds You probably did the best thing you could for him, especially since it was summer. He definitely had a lot better chance with that strawberry juice boost you gave him. A lot of folks bring em straight water and that doesn't really help much.
