Straphabit

There are some things as watch reviewers we take for granted and sometimes neglect to tell our viewers
I share some thoughts in this video as well as sharing some affordable straps from Straphabit
I was looking for a 19mm strap option for my Seiko SLA043J which features 19mm lug width and Nick from Straphabit reached out and asked if I wanted to check out his straps, so I decided to see if they are any good for the price being an affordable alternative
Direct link: straphabit.com/discount/PK15
Or use code: PK15 for 15% discount off orders..
Watches shown in video:
Tudor Blackbay 58 blue
Seiko SLA043J blue
Seiko Marinemaster Professional black SBBN031
Full disclosure: the watch straps featured in this video were sent in to the channel without needing to be returned
Thanks for watching..

    Am in this hobby now for 10 years and managed to NOT know about this alternative way of wearing NATO's . Always was a problem two layers underneath the case and all that parafinalia on the side of your wrist. Now with this alternative way, all these problems seem to be gone. There is only one word for this idea: BRILLIANT..! Thanks.

    I cut the pass-through side of the strap with some scissors, then lightly singe the edges with a lighter to prevent fraying.

Thanks to your videos in this last year, I’ve changed up my look with single pass, Nick Mankey, Maikes, MN, Horween, the dedicated strap-change drawer is always busy! I even spotted a 20x loupe with bezel/insert in one of your videos and it’s my favourite to use👌 Great Content Mate👍🏻

    Been cutting the extra piece of a NATO since day one but I must say I have quite a few red FKM's from Straphabit since I like them and I have been wearing red rubber for at least 25 or so years. They're great and I get them off Amazon within a day.

    If you would wear natos on the watches they are intended for, you will never need to cut the second piece off. Natos were never intended for nor should ever be worn on divers, which are already too thick and bulky as it is. Natos should only be worn on properly designed field watches, which are slimmer than the other watch types to specifically allow for use with nato straps.

    Great advices, both the magnetised spring bars and the way you wear your double pass NATO. I personally wear both my NATOs and my leather strap the other way around with the buckle on the 6 o'clock side of the watch, a bit like some Japanese brands install them, find the look of it neater.

    I bought a cheap watch tool kits from Amazon and the majority of the tools and spare push pins were very magnetised. The only reason I checked was because of your video about magnetised watches, bracelet clasps, spring bars, etc. I was shocked at the time, but since your video I have purchased a compass and a demagnetiser and have checked and demagnetised everything. I’ve never worn a NATO strap even though I have a rubber one that I was given for free, but after watching your video I think I need to get a couple of nylon ones. Great review as usual.

    Peter, what does it matter if a cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice! So if a watch looks like (God forbid) a Rolex or not, if it keeps time as one of these models certainly does then it does not matter a flying fig. Pity about the loose-ish bezel, that can be fixed by a screwed clamp as has been done successfully in the past. Oo roo!

  • @whatsstefon
    @whatsstefon2 жыл бұрын

    Magnetisation is important. I’ve bought “broken” watches that don’t keep time, only to find that the movement is magnetised. This is despite being sold and advertised as “serviced professionally” Garbage! I immediately put those sellers on my black list.

    You ever sent any of the rubber/silicones straps away for harmful toxin and phthalates testing, or have info from suppliers that have done this? I can't find a supplier that offers any safety assurance, which can be a worry with reports of chemicals found in cheap overseas toys, likely where most straps are made too. A strap is in direct contact with our skin for a long time. I'd love to send some straps for test, but can't find anywhere in UK that will do this on a small scale.

  • @Al_Prazolam

    If you always/only wear double-pass natos as single-pass style with all the bulk at the bottom, why not just cut off the dangling extra strap that you're never going to use?

  • @strandvaskeren
    @strandvaskeren2 жыл бұрын

    The double pass nato was designed so that if service men hung their watch from a nail on the wall, the watch wouldn't slide down the strap and drop to the floor. If you don't like the extra layer of strap between your wrist and the watch, just cut off the extra bit of strap or buy a single pass nato to begin with. To me the "nato strap trick" is pretty silly - you don't get the benefit of the second pass, you just end up with essentially a single pass nato only more fiddly to use compared to an actual single pass nato.

  • @PeterKotsa

    True, however some really nice colours and patterns are only available in double pass, so in those case, a single pass user can still benefit 👍 Thanks for sharing

    wow, i'm really surprised how rough the finish is on that Tudor, under the end link. I generally see that in 200 dollars Seikos, but not above 500 ones. Heck, didn't see something that rough on the vostok i have. I thought maybe it's just dirt, but you can clearly see the machining scratches. Tudor for me was one of my grail brands, but i need to rethink that opinion.

Subjective, but that's how it feels every time i put it on. There's something very classy and vintage about it, even though it's an outdoor watch on paper. Oh, I really hate this kind of reviews. I highly doubt that watch enthusiast that YT reviewer should be, did not notice that these straps are just the generic ones that are sold all over Ali for 5$. There are many small strap makers that are creative, work hard to provide us something different, better quality. And then there are others that just buy in bulk most generic Chinese products, triple the price and try to sell. It's legit, but Peter, you should know better and avoid them. Anyway, I have a few of these and they are really good. Very comfortable, they have thin hardware which is still strong. The straps are durable too. They are basically Tudor knockoffs.

    There are quite a few big companies doing exactly that. Unfortunately that’s the way of the world trade I’d love to see the smaller genuine hardworking individuals who actually manufacture their own straps more success Unfortunately the cost to manufacture a product these days and be competitive are two mutually exclusive things That’s why China is the king of the mountain today Sad but true
