Max running from Vecna and after being trapped by him meant so much to me. That scene personifies what it feels like to escape depression/anxiety. I also like that the threat is still there after Max escapes because mental illnesses rarely go away completely and often rear their ugly heads later.

I couldn't agree more. Seeing Max resigned to her fate, to then find the will to go on practically sucked the air out of my lungs. Her music opening a distant window to her salvation, and through it, her friends desperately reaching out to her was amazing. Even more so was that it was by her own strength that she was able to make it the rest of the way. It's a very relatable and inspiring concept when a character can overcome their despair in the moment and persevere like that. It was executed flawlessly in how that entire scene was put together.

For me, Max's encounter with Vecna is a metaphor for the every day battle for trauma survivors. In a twist of fate, Stranger Things season 4 premiered on the anniversary of the most traumatic event of my life, and this episode was difficult, but necessary to watch. When Max says, "I'm still here" at the end, that's precisely what it feels like [I like to chant this exact phrase to ground myself to reality.] to push the self out of an episode. As a result, this is my favorite episode of the entire show; it's the one that resonates with me the most. If my support system could play any song for me, I'd have them play EXO's "Runaway," "El Dorado," or "Oasis." If it has to be an 80's song, I'd choose Huey Lewis and The News' "The Power of Love."

Max's ordeal in this episode (and throughout the season so far) as a metaphor of living with, dealing with, and eventually facing crippling depression and suicidal thoughts is breathtaking. So well written, filmed and yet feeling so relatable. That's really why I think so many are emotionally affected by it (alongside of Max being so awesome). We all have had to deal or are dealing with depression and to see it so depicted but with a hopeful turn to it is incredible.

As someone who's been on both sides of that scenario it hit doubly hard, because it's both surviving a suicidal episode and helping someone through it. Max overcoming Venca and running towards the light was breathtaking . This might be my favorite scene in the entire series . Sadie’s acting is phenomenal and this scene is so DEEP. Emotionally deep. The metaphor behind it. Isolating yourself from your friends and loved ones, further retreating into the darkness & becoming vulnerable to evil , And Max is literally RUNNING to the light at the end of the tunnel. A light that’s being shown to her through the music in her heart. It’s beautiful and scary all at once . Seriously the Duffer brothers excelled this season 💯

This is honestly one of the most emotionally powerful episodes of tv I have ever seen. As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety my whole life I knew exactly what Max was thinking and feeling. Like you’ve fallen into a frozen lake, your strength starts to leave your body and you just want to stop fighting, sink and let the darkness take you. But then like with Max hearing her song and seeing the hole that will lead her back to her loved ones you yourself have to just look for where you fell through the ice, dig deep to find a strength that you never knew was there, swim to the surface, and drag yourself out of that cold dark and lonely place. Obviously I burst into tears of relief when the episode ended. To everyone else out there who feels like they are alone and in pain know this, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone.❤️❤️

How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. She wants to live, she is more aware of it now. This is not the end, this can't be, she is sprinting with all adrenaline, in the crimson sky the song echoes: And if I only could, I'd make a deal with God, And I'd get him to swap our places, Be running up that road, Be running up that hill, Be running up that building.

Max was listening to "Running up that hill" to deal with her trauma from Billy. We saw it in the lyrics and her actions - If I only could make a deal with god, I would get him to swap our places. She would trade places with Billy in a moment. Poor kid.

  • @Cutejess2407
    @Cutejess24072 жыл бұрын

You can see the exact moment she chose life, she didn't want to follow Billy anymore. She didn't feel guilty anymore. That's when Vecna lost his grip on her and she was able to get away. And then the scenes of Vecna looking at her while running up close, showing her getting away and he can't stop her. That's why the rubble couldn't get her, he lost that power over her. Amazing scene and representation! The fact that she fought it, and he lost that power over her. So powerful! Even just the talk around the letters. Many suicidal people write letters. "I don't want a letter, I'm right here". Then even the song choice "if I only could I'd make a deal with god I'd get him to swap our places", all relates to wanting to follow Billy. I know that feeling oh so well after losing my own brother to suicide, her letter to Billy resonated with me so much. My brother and I had our issues growing up and we were rebuilding that relationship. "We could have been friends". The trauma and what ifs around that are horrible. It's the loss of what could have been. Oh and not to mention the fact that Steve checked on her! Many people don't check on their friends and they end up dying to suicide. It shows the difference someone can make. I also struggled with mental health and still do even before and after I lost my brother. I've attempted before a couple times, I've self harmed. That scene was literally a visual representation of fighting depression and getting out of it. While I'm almost out of it, I am still running. Also when Vecna basically says she runs from her friends. Then when she chooses life and to fight, she runs towards them. Especially with that song 😭😭 I can't stop rewatching that scene and listening to that song!

It's the afterwash of this last scene that's the killer ~ it took me a full hour of relief crying to get over it, and still watching it, I get choked up. That scene meant a whole lot more to people than just a good twist. If you've ever lost someone or nearly lost someone to depression or any struggle really, it's hard not to wish you might have swapped places, wish that someone you loved had managed to escape and come back to those who loved them.

I was nearly in tears due to the genuine stress and fear I had during that scene. Even more so now that I understand the metaphor for depression.

For what the compliment is worth fellas, you two are among the few reactors where I'll watch the whole video without skipping to the big scenes. That's a testament to y'all's own charisma. Side note. Yeah, they did sell discounted Nintendos with one controller and without Duck Hunt or the gun way back when. My mom bought me one that didn't even have Mario, it had some soccer game, FOUR ports and four controllers instead. (Decent soccer game, but I was still like WTF!?! I didn't have four friends.) Maybe she got it bootleg. I didn't pry.

If Sadie doesn't receive an award for this season, I'm rioting... She's one of THE best younger actors I've ever seen and this episode solidified that for me... Her acting this whole season has been insane... The Duffer Brother's metaphor for grief and depression that Max deals with in this season strikes home for me, having lost a couple of my own family members... That feeling of "maybe I could have done something" and unnecessary feeling of guilt over something you can't control is something I myself have dealt with... I bawled at the end of this episode... It hit like a ton of bricks and I had so many emotions flying high...

Because Max was basically letting go throughout the entire episode, they got us good. There was a slow build all the way, and then when the song plays and she's thinking about all of her friends, you still think she's letting go, then bam, she attacks Vecna and runs like hell. It's not until she's running where you feel some relief, but she could still die, because Vecna is so damn powerful. Expertly done and Sadie Sink acted her ass off in this whole episode, just fantastic.

Finally 😍 Thank you that I was able to relive the moments of episode 4 through you. Man I was crying watching it the first time (and all the reaction videos thereafter). I was on the edge of my seat worrying they going to kill Max. Her arc in this season is also the perfect metaphor for depression, which I guess is why so many people could connect to her.

The set up for this episode was so good. So many failures happening to characters in their areas of the story, leaving us begging for one thing to go right, for Max to survive. And she does. It doesn’t feel cheap. It was earned by Max herself.

Mucho, mucho amor!

What an incredible episode. They did it to perfection and as I was literally sitting in the edge of my seat, yelling at Max to run faster,(my family looking at me as if I had lost my mind) that moment of black screen scared me and I was hoping the episode wouldn't end on a cliffhanger. Furthermore we all thought for that brief moment " holy shit, she didn't make it!". I love rewatching the episodes with your colorful commentary and your raw emotions. Thank you!

Ok, after a long wait, this reaction didn't disappoint! Throughout the entire episode, I was on the fence as to whether or not they would kill her off. As tragic as that would have been (because she's been my favourite character for so long), Max's ability to deal with this though situation with so much grace was really powerful to me. By the time Robin figured out the music thing, I knew she would live. And I just enjoyed the craftsmanship of the sequence. But I was certainly on the edge of my seat due to the way the action unfolded. I knew, in the moment, I was watching a sequence we would never forget.

After watching this and thinking further......I LOVE what the writers are doing...if you think back through Stranger Things as a whole, they have done an amazing job of bringing even the supporting characters to the forefront and giving them their moments to shine. Also, I hope these kids have more projects in place because man they can act!! Sadie Sink knocked it out of the freaking park this episode. And finally.......the director and whoever decided the song and build of that scene deserve a raise because that was magic! Easily goes down as one of the best scenes I've seen in a movie...it reaches out and grabs you and you're left on the edge all the way up to the end...even the little blackout that left you wondering was perfectly timed.
