It really is! The national spotlight on this issue has been very much needed to correct an issue that shouldn't be allowed period.

They should charge them with burglery and breaking an entering which carry longer sentences than just charging them with trespassing.

Correct me if im wrong, but if you are a landlord, put up a sign at a vacant home, stating: No Trespassing. And documents it. Then if a squatter decides to move in, then the police can easily remove the squatters, cause they are trespassers or am i wrong?

@@RachaelintheBoro If you have no trespassing sign up, then the police would be able to remove them. Cause they are trespassing and not squatting. As far as i know :P

Adverse possesion is not a bad thing. Makes sure abandoned properties are utilized and taken care of. The issue is extremely often it's criminals destroying the property, then the government not helping for the breaking and entering, destruction of property, theft, trespassing. If you properly exercise you 2A by defending yourself when they break into your home, you are wrongfully made the criminal. Adverse possesion laws have two major requirements: -make clear you are living there by openly acting like owner and paying taxes and utilities and mowing lawn et cetera -do this for very long time, without owner telling you to leave If owner comes by and says I want these people charged for treapassing, breaking amd entering, destruction of property, police should be assisting. If it's genuine law abiding people attempting adverse possession, the city should already know and should be simple as owner telling them to leave immediately and thats that. All this "squatters rights" bullshit is just that, bullshit. They are not legal tenants!!!

It's up to the original owner to stay vigilant with their property or face possible legal fees or maybe eviction haha

It's even more important to understand your 2 a rights, and also how to rent and use a backhoe for digging non shallow graves that can be backfilled with dirt, squatters, concrete, gravel , more dirt, etc.! Voila! Problem solved! No need for legal fees OR evictions! haha

Certainly! I think out of town owners should definitely have cameras to keep eyes on your property since most property managers don't do check ups.
