The Center console is hinged for a left hand drive market, im guessing they expected to sell more of this model in left hand drives, however would have made much more sense to have it hinged to open in the middle like everything else.

Yeah that could be the case, but the only other market this was sold in was the UK (RHD). Maybe they had plans? but normally cars are designed for their home market. If this was a BMW for example then youd just say "oh they didn't bother to change it for RHD). My car really just confuses me lol

Same with my Miata, the trunk latch is next to it.

You know I have never had to put fuel in a Mx5, Miata, Roadster before but I have driven them, they are great cars!

I have been in a few NA’s, but I’ve never had to put fuel in them. Good to know 😄

So it’s the same as a 1996 ford thunderbird both with the bs lid that flips towards the driver and with having the button for the fuel door in the center console

Yeah, it's very weird that it flips the wrong way... If it was a euro car i'd assume its for LHD markets but this car just confuses me lol
