This is a channel that follows my crippling car addiction! Whether it's working on one of my many broken cars or going to various car events I plan to share it all! I am a total car fanatic I don't care if it's Australian, Japanese German or V8 inline-6 or even a 660CC engine I love them all. Do not let the name confuse you it is purely meant to read as "Jay's Domestic market" it's an awful play on words using my name. Granted I will openly admit I am a huge fan of Japanese cars and am currently studying and living in Kyoto, Japan! « Mirage » on a Mitsubishi Mirage… Well done 😁
Seems that « 0 » is replaced by a dot when it start the number plate… So, « 0123 » become « •1-23 », but « 1230 » stay « 12-30 »…
#YopLesPilotes ! About the second number on the top right, I read somewhere that 0 was for regular plate and 1 to 9 was to indicate that the lower numbers was chosen by the owner 🤔 So only the 3rd number on top line is random/sequential 🤷🏻♂️
What if you buy a car with a 2.0 engine, which actually is a car with an 1,987cc engine? Will the license plate start with a 5X or with a 3X? It’s a real question for me, because I want to get one for my Lexus IS200 that is a ‘2.0’ engine 😅
And what if you swap the engine with another bigger one? Will you need to change the license plate?
If you are importing a car should I get a shaken report before I buy it?
Sounds like an inline 6
They gonna run out of alphabetical suffixes soon!
Great video!
i agree on what he said about the brake booster here 2:38 because i always wondered why mechanics never considered moving the booster after converting to RHD like the 2004 jeep Cherokee sport

I have a yellow plate with 2 numbers 40 and the other 4 numbers is 34-23 wonder how old the tag is since it’s 40
What a beauty
I cast my vote for Nismo LMGT3 or 4 wheels, in bronze of course. freshen up the suspension with BC's, GTR body kit and done!
If I had the budget!
Cool car, hope your plans work out, but looking at the left turn signal at 8:18 I think it might be possessed...
Props for even noticing that 😂 it’s the aftermarket alarm system coming on after turning the car off for a while.
A father son project seems so awesome, i wish my parents were cool with cars haha
I was just so surprised I managed to convince my dad to even go halves in a skyline and then a second one 🤣 he’s been a V8 Holden man his whole life. I think I converted him after I Turboed the Supra lol.
Just got back from JP and I did notice so many LHD too! Pique my interest. It’s a head turner for sure, especially most of LHD are on luxury cars.
I'm going to drop this comment before watching the video: Yesterday I was looking for some cars online (Germany), to get some ideas what I could get myself in case my GT86 somehow wouldn't be around anymore. Prices for enthusiast cars are just mad... Old NSX: 85.000€+... Then I looked up the market value on my 91 Supra: 17.500€... Thanks a lot. That's why I'm going to take a look at this video :-D
Definitely want to live in the countryside and drive my CTR around town
i noticed that tables about the classification number always say above/below 2 liters and i was wondering what number they get when its exactly 2 liters as that would fall right in between
As indicated "below 2 litres" once it is 2 litres or above it gets classified with a 3. Hope this clears things up :)
@@JayDM2311 alright thanks, i was confused because it said above 2 liters, not 2 liters and above
Ah sorry my bad! I know many 2 litre cars and they had a 3 so I can confirm this!
Japanese sure love their bureaucracy
They sure do, for better or worse...
The first 2 or 3 digits on a diplo plate will tell you which country's Embassy it's registered with. There's no official list, but you can work it out if you see enough
Wow I didn’t know this, that’s so cool!
~7.6 to the hundred is pretty good given it was driven, not 'just operated' I commute with a 1.4l golf and see around 6.7 on average, but that's without trying to be efficient, my old 3.8l commodore would see 13.6l/100 under similar trips. Highway journeys make a difference though, took a 747km round trip to a rural town, managed about 5.2l/100, still had 200km in the tank after arriving home, AC on the whole way too. It spooks me the kind of numbers cruiser / patrol v8 drivers boast about, those things are crazy thirsty even down the highway.
Yeah tbh it would be safe to say if I took the racing numbers out it would be in the mid-high 6s. My old commodores always got well above 10. I cant believe people daily cars that get like 14+...
Thanks for your help mate, Im returning my JDM 1988 Honda Prelude from NZ to Japan this year (my Japanese wife and I have a house here)- we also live in Australia but found they make life far too hard and expensive to import car there now plus with the amount of revenue gathering going on with the roads there, its far cheaper to move i to Japan where I can enjoy it on their nice roads within their sensible legal system. Its also far easier to access race tracks in Japan than in AU now.
Yep I know what you mean. For those reasons and more is why I'm planning the move. If you like cars and racing Japan is a great option. Of course, there are many drawbacks but in my eyes the benefits far outweigh them!
@@JayDM2311 for sure! Do you live in Kyoto? I'm in Hyogo, would be keen to DM and do a meet when the time comes...
Sadly I’m back In Australia, for now…
For recreational driving those number are fairly good, not far off my 1996 1 litre Charade and I drive that from southern suburbs to Wingfield and back each day.
I love an old Charade <3
@@JayDM2311 this is the younger of my two Daihatsu cars
Cool 😎
When I did my 3500 km trip in Europe getting my Cappuccino to home, it did around 5,6L/100km on faster highways (at around 120-130 km/h) and around 4,8 on 90 km/h highways.
That's some great figures! As stated I only ever drove my car for fun. I suspect under "normal conditions" That I would be in the low 6's or high 5's. Good to see some other Cappuccino number though, not many people have released stats on them!
Seems like the Cappuccino is about the same fuel economy wise as my Daihatsu Copen, which averages around 13km/L as well
In my results that I got that sounds about right. Although I suspect If I drove the car "normally" I should have got 16-20km/L. I am keen to do more tests when I get it in Australia one day!
Getting around 30mpg in my Miata, it's just as fun to drive, and saves me a lot. I'm looking forward to importing a Sambar and getting around that while also risking my life on the road.
Powerful and fast cars do not necessarily equal fun. On the contrary, slow and weak cars do not mean it is not fun! I have experienced both and I can confidently say the Cappuccino is as fun (maybe more) than my Supra. It is a different fun though. I think a lot of people that have never experienced small underpowered cars do not know what they are missing! Bonus part is great fuel economy!
Nice vid! Interested to see what other cars you have lined up for your future fuel economy videos 🧐
What is a Kei-car?
A class of vehicle in Japan that is smaller than 660CC engine, less than 64ps of power and fits within strict weight and size dimensions.
a lot of weebs would have heard about the number readings from the ending scene of initial d, where a gt86 goes by with the plate number 86-239 - hachi roku ni san kyuu - "thank you, eight-six" referring to the main character's car which is an ae86 if you're unaware
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but South Australia now has custom Jplates you can get.
We sure do! Had a few comments bring it up actually. Personally I haven't got one. yet....
In my state not having a front plate is illegal, so no fun Japanese front plates for me
Wait what? For real? Man I dream of no front plate tbh
I realized my car had 42 as the last 2 numbers on my plate....explains why i got some weird looks when parking haha. Great Video!
Very nice. There are some familiar roads. Looking forward to seeing how this project develops. If I see you on the road I will flash my lights and wave.
Glad your keen to see more, you may see me around!
I love the fact that you can see on the plate that is it a rental.
So many Cappuccinos in this video, love it!
Very informative. I've been to Japan now 20 times and always wondered about their plates. Thank you for helping me understand👍
Having studied abroad in Japan myself in Tokyo, I attempted to join up with our school race team but I just didn't have the time with everything else I was doing. So seeing this video was really cool. Thank you for sharing and allowing us to live vicariously through you. What an awesome once in a lifetime experience. I'm jealous that you were able to own a car while you were/are there. I got by without one but when WRC Japan came around I was really miffed that I couldn't drive up and see it. Not sure if you are planning to stay there or not but when I come back I'm definitely going to invest in a fun lil Kei car like you were driving!
ADACHI Numbers!
My (American) plate once read TX12NO1 but so many people guessed it incorrectly
Folk do not know old sport jdm car in japan have high tax 😅
now i miss my silver 2004 gli coup :) changed the tires, muffler and an evo kit :)
Damn I’m finna find a car in Adelaide here. Do you have any recommendations (cars and websites).
Facebook marketplace is a cesspool but it’s where you find the best deals. Carsales is great for higher end cars. Occasionally Gumtree provides a deal or two but it’s pretty quiet these days. Hope this helps!
I’m sticking to the cars sales since they have some reasonably priced manuals. Thanks!
Great video! Keen to see the future of this car!
Glad your as excited as I am!
Your videos slap! Between you and Garbage time, I'm set for aussie car content for life!
I love Garbage time, his stuff is awesome! I too am quite the Nuggeteer :P
Keep up your vids bro. Hope you enjoy your Mirage.
Thanks for the kind comment I really appreciate it :) I can't wait for my future plans for the car, it will be so much fun!
Is it a Mirage Asti?
Yes it is! In Australia we call them Lancer's for some reason. Not sure why because we call the hatchback aa "Mirage" but the coupe a "Lancer". It honestly makes no sense to me at all lol. Also bonus fact it has the chassis number CJ5A instead of CJ4A in the Japan models I drove.
@@JayDM2311 4G93 would likely put a smile on you, hahaha.
Promo SM 😁
I drive a targa porsche, sooo yesh i guess this video wasnt meant for me😂
