STOUT Huge Set back.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This all went down after a huge push of 3 weeks of non stop work and a difficult deadline of getting to GridLife so I was super bitter about what happened at the time. All is good just work till it's done. The saving grace was Randall jumping right in to get me squared away and back together in a few days time. Back to square one again and ready for some dyno time at Kinetic. We don't quit.

I think we can all appreciate your transparency with the issues and struggles that you go through with your builds. We can all learn so much more by seeing the problems, the diagnoses, and the solutions. The behind the scenes stuff that we rarely get to see, but we love to see.

I thoroughly enjoy watching this build. I just wanted to mention that there is a set of washers called Nord-Loc which use a mechanical wedge and splines to "bite" into whatever the hardware is clamping. They maybe worth while to look into.

Makes you wonder if the ARP head stud is worth it.. I see they have an additional washer underneath it. Wonder why ARP doesn't just make the primary washer the needed size. Props to you and your support team on the quick recovery.

  • @jdoe9518

WTAF are you dribbling? The engine builder machined the head to accept a hardened insert washers. This is done to protect the alloy from tearing whilst whatever washer would normally be turning against it during the tightening/torquing of the head bolt or nut. It is common practice on motorsport engines because they get rebuild regularly. The insert washers have obviously moved in the head during heat cycle which has released the tension on the stud and nut. Nothing to do with ARP. An admired oversight in the video. Why use stud and nut? Because a superior clamping load is obtained for three reasons 1) the torque applied isn't being twisted over the length of head bolt against the course thread in the block 2) the top thread on a stud is a finer thread pitch, roll formed not cut, which reduces the coefficient of friction therefore increasing clamping load at a given torque 3) better material which allows a higher torque which equals higher clamp loading.

@@jdoe9518 excellent points but you should know nearly all bolts you touch are roll formed, its just quicker than cutting threads in mass production

He clearly explained its because of the soft cast head that the extra washers are used and they would have been developed by someone pushing this engine. Arp are a stronger replacement for a factory item .

I cant stand that kicking back on cranking startup. That is usually because cranking advance is too much. Tell the tuner about it. Its either cranking advance or your engine grounding is not very well done.
