    In agreement with the views expressed in this interview. One view I would like to express though is when you ask Americans if they have a positive view of capitalism, the answer your getting is do they have a positive view of capitalism as it is implemented in the United States at the time the question was asked. From the founding of the United States, both the state and federal government have intervened in some cases temporarily but mostly permanently to add further and further regimes of restriction to capitalism. These include but are not limited to central planning, laws, tax incentives, and tax penalties. This progressively has moved the lived experience of what is called American Capitalism to something that has progressively added many impediments to conducting business, finding employment, or having a personal choice among competitors. I'm in the 30-40 age group and my lived experience is that the monolith of government "oversight & protections" combined with what dimensions of capitalism & free markets are left could result in a poll where people state that capitalism is negative due to their bias from experiencing our Frankenstein system which they have been told their whole lives was and is a capitalist free market society.

    Great interview up until the point the guest injected that globalism is wonderful. The question is, good for whom? True, it helped raise third world nations out of poverty but at the expense of knocking first world nations (specifically USA) down a peg (or three). Due to NAFTA, DR-CAFTA, South Korea-FTA, just to name a few. Not to mention the ones that are coming down the pipe, TPP, TAFTA and UAE-FTA. In order for globalism to work correctly, it is required that third world nations gain closer parity with their first world counterparts. That not only includes raising these countries up but also lowering some countries down. It is great for the corporations as they will profit off of exporting jobs/departments overseas along with reduced tariffs for trading. Not so good for the American employee that may find a pink slip when they open their mailbox.

    The country is poor and bankrupt because we as Americans played our part there by cutting the pipeline from Florida to Cuba and instead of easing the cuban government and its people to a higher quality of life we americans stick our noses in everything but when we had a chance to cripple the russian hold on cuba we walked away mainly because of the misunderstaniding of eachothers people's thr fact remains that the cuban people myself included get offended when made to look incompetent which we americans did that when we bought puerto rico guam and a couple other Caribbean Islands we should've still extended our hand and forced aid to them this may have had a completely different outcome then what really went down im an American and I am greatful to be born on American soil but why can't we cut down the bullshit that we started. Help everyone except those who desperately need it plz we need to not cause more turmoil but must ease the tensions between cuba and the us and as far as communism goes capitalism has yet to prove that it is nothing lile communism when it is a form of it im communism yra everything is shared but in capotalism the poor get poorer the sick die because their sick not because they have grown old their is literacy on both sides the communists are all together poor even the government in capitalism you the wealthy who pray on the poor don't pay their fair share in taxes they do not care about their fellow countrymen only themselves what ever happened to being neighborly a treatment that was traded in for capitalism so I will ask again plz explain the difference between a government that keeps it real or a government that sickens its people to keep pharmaceutical companies that a majority of them politicians own so whats the difference im sorry as an American we could've taken notes from fidel when it comes to health care schooling housing and basic necessities we as Americans have a shitload of money yet are in debt from helping shithole countries like pakastan Afghanistan lybia syria hell all of the middle east yet we will not lift a finger to help my people our people in the Caribbean their right fuckingnthere cant miss them we also have seperated and completely destroyed our own blood to the south of us in centralmerica and sudamerica but why that is my question are our own Americans ho matter Latin american native american or any other type of American and to be honest I view cuba as Latin Americans considering the Caribbeans are considered part of South America cubans are angry can you blame them while puerto ricans walk around calling everything they touch puerto rican or better yet all Latinos in america have suddenly become mexicans or puerto ricans or just White people rather then saying Cuban I am noticing a trend when your from mexico or puertorico or just soith america your Latin american nit Cubans are just Cubans and I think che wanted america to forget about cuba bc we really just shit on them we go there beat up the spanish rebuild and then we left why did we not act with cuba like the rest of the second world countries which is aid and support from a distance

    Yes jason cuba was receiving aid from russia and might I add had uncle sam not went their talking about I own this shit relations between the us and cuba would've been better and the only reason they were concidered a communist country is because of fulgencio batista and meyer lansky the mofias influence shaped cuba to be a dictators dream after that it became a socialist country there is a big difference between a communist and a socialist communist take from their country for themselves and socialist give to their country fidel angel castro ruz was the prime minister! Then the president had we been taking care of all the Caribbean island not just guam and puerto rico we would have a ton of allies right now and lile in the Geneva Convention there are several different rules on aiding and inbedding communist party members yet our government is a fascist government we would rather see someone starve to death rather then help them and that is not being very diplomatic now is it our country has the very same problems the cuba had in the 1950's til now everyone talks about debt and might I add canada offers everything that cuba does except then french and americans send money to them then you all mention che like he is your company salesmen I should be ashamed for looking at a mans sacrifices with open eyes why dont you fuckin people ever look past the shit people do in war it was a revolutionary war with a dictator you dont say oh man all those poor Vietnamese we killed or Koreans will killed africans we jave lilled iranians Iraqis but wont lift a finger to help sudamerica(south america) for shit they're our brothers and sisters in south america and in the carribeans so how fucking dare you sit on your porcelain thrown and say a fucking word about communism when our president is a active communist party member #FACT

    America 1950,60'7s0s was not a sociolist country and we boomed because the wealthy and large corporation paid their taxes--Taxing investmanet income differently then regular income is a scam. They claimed they needed to encourage investment--hahahahaha---You mean if we taxed it as regular income they would put it in their mattresses???? hahahahaha What few people realize is the "High Marginal Tax rates" on exdrodinary income/profits was a huge economic stimulas. Many of you old timers will remeber the 1950's 1960's 1970's when the Owner came in to meet with the President and VP's to discuss the end of year Tax liability. When the President informed the owner that they had a great year with profits now exceeding $5 million--the owner would respond with a Moan "you guys are pushing me into the highest tax bracket--(90% on dollars over $3 million in 1950's)". They would then sit down to find things to spend the extra profits on to reduce his tax liability. So out would come the Capital wish lists and projects would be approved, New Equipment--Refurburshed Sales offices--Up grades to Computer Hardware--Lease New cars for the Sales force--New Tech Lab, then they would look at Management Bonuses, upgrading the Company healthcare, worker Christmas bonus and dump the remaining in the employee Fully company funded Pension plan. The capital expenditures would increase the business to business economy while the increased employee earnings would go into consumer spending and increase local small businesses sales. And the Economy Boomed and we all boomed. Now Fast Forward 2005 after the Back to back Bush tax cuts. Owner comes in --is told the same story but now he tells the Preident to send all the profits into his foreign bank accounts (to shelter future earnings) Since his effective tax rate with loop holes will be less then 20% on all $5 million. He then wants to hear the presidents plan to cut cost and improve profitablility for the next year. They cut "Non-sessential employees like quality Control Dept, Secretary, Receptioness, anyone not directly involved with making/selling product. They close all the sales offices and return all the company cars to the leasing company and make the salesmen use their own car (paid on milage) and home as an office.. They then discuss the incentive package for the top executives if they can meet these profit goals. in 2006 they meet the goals and the owner enjoys even higher profits and the President and senior VP get huge bonusses. In Year 2 under "Reaganomics or Suoplly Side or Trickle down" the President has closed down part of the U.S. operation and now importing subassemblies from third world countires with no EPA or labour laws. Year 3, he closes and sells the U.S. plant while moving the equipment to the third world country. I can go on, but you get the idea--by removing the "High Marginal Tax rates" from the "New Deal" tax code we are distroying our economy and the American way of life for the magority of Americans, Time to end "Trickle Down and return those High marginal tax rates and high corporate tax rate. Proof look at the graph below or goolge 1% EFECTIVE tax rates 1940 to 2010. Do the same for corporations. E en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:US_high-income_effective_tax_rates.png m

    Robert Campbell Sorry Robert but a lot has happened since 1919. We boomed in the 1950's and 60's like no other nation ever or since. This is when we took the extra profits from our economy and plowed them back into the economy. This was done with high marginal tax rates to keep the profits from pooling at the top again and causing another depression. Give a teacher, Policeman, Postal worker, steel worker an extra dollar and they spend it in our economy creating deand, while you give a Mitt Romney another dollar it goes offshore into a tax haven--I can't make it any simplier for you. The middle class is in trouble and if we don't get those rates back up on the wealthy and corporations, a depression is on the way. TODAY THEY HAVE HISTORICALLY LOW RATES--SO WHY AREN"T WE BOOMING??? Think about it Robert--E

  • @themiddleclasseconomist5128

    @themiddleclasseconomist5128

    Robert Campbell Economics is actual a behavior science and yes we have found better ways to organize an economy since we began grouping together into sizable communities. We have evolved and no there is no economic system in nature unless you want to count Tribal existance--which I'm pretty sure we left behind some time ago. I not sure I can answer some of your statements since you give me no facts for such comments--I guess that's just your opinion. Marx didn't want a 1950's Tax structure which took the extra --ordinary profits and pour them back into the economy. --Sorry but the Fact is the wealthy have cut their ACTUAL tax rates by 50% (since 1950) as have the large corporations while the taxes on the Middle class continue to climb.--THIS IS A FACT. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:US_high-income_effective_tax_rates.png google it yourself but be sure to ask for the ACTUAL rates--not the "Published" or "Make beleive" rate. The Beauty of the 'New Deal" tax code with progressive rates is it forced the owners to reinvest in the companies (deductable expenses) and share profits with the workers (again deductable Expenses) to avoid paying the 90% tax rate on Profits over $4 million. This is the biggest reason we boomed. One only need look south of the border and ask what is the differnce between America 1950's and 60's when the great society took off and stunned the world with it's prosperity and Latin America??? Simply they never implemented a Progressive tax code like The U.S... And that has been all the difference--And Check the OECD ratings of Tax/GDP and you will noticed we have slipped down to the basement with most third world economies like Latin America. Check the numbers and then get back to me--E

    I hope you do realize that trusting a right-wing hack like Stossel to give us a fair account of Che Guevara, would be similar to asking Ahmadinejad to give the story of Hanukkah. "Che's life is an inspiration for every human being who loves freedom, we will always honor his memory." --- Nelson Mandela "Che is not only an intellectual, he was the most complete human being of our time, our eras most perfect man." --- Jean Paul Sartre

    Nelson Mandela was the leader of of UmKhonto we Sizwe, a terrorist group. Why don't you check into that (or are his own admissions not enough?)? Or maybe you meant when he was funded largely by Gaddafi later on? Taking Sartre's comment out of context is a little silly - as most people do when "defending" Che. Sartre was a philosopher, his arguments weren't based on the ideals of what is seen but rather what a person can do - whether those results are good or bad. For example, I don't like Obama as a President, but he is undeniably and remarkably charismatic. Would you say I like Obama because you found a quote from me that says "Obama is remarkably charismatic"? No. Sartre was referencing the "whole man" of the Renaissance which Sartre himself took on to define in his own right. If you don't know anything about Sartre - I can see why you would quote him... because ignorance is bliss. Find a soundbite and move on. Except Sartre dissected things reasonably - it's no denying the Che had brains. There is no denying he had the gumption and the will to see things through. It's no denying that he was charismatic, or anything else. Hitler was also all these things. It doesn't make the end result right. Then again, you probably thought Mother Teresa was a pious Saint, right?

    CHE Ernesto Guevara, also known as El Che, was and is of great importance in the lives of Cubans. All the schoolchildren in the dreadful schools chant, “We will be like Che!” This so-called Che was a sordid man, a puritan who fancied himself a writer, a homophobe, and a person who was very dirty. What I mean by dirty is that he showered infrequently. He was a man who was physically weak and like all men who are weak, when he obtained power, he exercised it arbitrarily. He was a man who enjoyed humiliating and killing men who were stronger than he was. He was a prolific executioner. You could see that in him when he was in charge of La Cabaña prison, overlooking the executions with his pimp of the opera truculent face. You can only imagine what it takes to be able to sit there and view executions as if one were viewing a sunset. "Mexicans are a rabble of illiterate Indians." (Che Guevara, while in Mexico, May 1956.)
