STORY TIME WITH GARY MCCORD AND BRANDEL CHAMBLEE - FORE PLAY EPISODE 532

Спорт

All-time stories. Riggs sits down at Grayhawk with famed announcer Gary McCord and notorious analyst Brandel Chamblee. The two friends riff on: getting in trouble broadcasting the Masters, hitting the bar with Clint Eastwood, missing Tour greens on purpose, the greatest putting book ever written, and nearly getting into a fist-fight with another player mid-tournament round.

That was solid gold, Riggs. You were the perfect host. You didn’t make it about you talking with legends, you just let them go. Thank you for this and cheers, bud.

The J.C. Snead story reminded me...I went to the senior event in K.C. at Loch Lloyd in 1990 I think. Followed Lee Trevino most of the day, at the end after a day of drinking beers int the sun, J.C. walked past me and I said hey Sam can I get an autograph? He turned around, I knew right away when I said Sam I was never going to get that autograph, a true class act...took out a glove and signed J.C. Snead without saying a word walked away.

Now that was a total blast to listen to FORE PLAY GOLF!~ I've subscribed and I could have listened to another hour or two as I think GOLF stories from PRO GOLFERS are always the BEST! Gary and Brandel sure have their stories that keep you in your seat to hear more. Riggs you did the right thing listening and talking little. Great job!

Brillant work. Takes a really smart guy to just get out of the way and let them go. I’m 62 and miss McCord more than any broadcaster in any sport. Watched golf just for him and Kostis. Thanks for getting him on

Riggs/Team - this has to be one of the best interviews on this channel. Riggs, I commend you on having the wherewithal to guide/prompt where needed and the maturity to let these legends go without being bridled. I would ABSOLUTELY love to see a Part II. In fact, if you guys could put together a Stories from the Legends series, that would be awesome. Here’s one recommendation: Jim Thorpe, Lee Trevino, McCord & Chamblee chitchatting over dinner and drinks.

Have never agreed with everything that Brandel has said. Some of his takes make the guys on ESPN look tame. But god this guy does his homework and has an incredible passion for the game, and you have got to respect that. Any Gary is an absolute legend. The game of golf is better when these guys are around.

I was taught golf by a very old PGA pro who told me stories about Bobby Locke and his putting prowess . The way he described his putting was that he basically hooked his putts which gave the ball tremendous over spin which was a big help in the time when the greens were not very good .

That was great. That was the best but I kept waiting for them to talk about the time they got into and insult war during a tournament on the air. It went something like this. They put a couch outside just outside where I believe the players went in to sign their card after the round. McCord I believe was the announcer maning the couch and Chamblee was in the booth or somewhere else on the course and probably pissed that McCord got the easy gig on the couch because it sounded like Chamblee was pissed and jealous. Well they started insulting each other like you would not believe. It was the best tv ever. It may have been after McCord lost his job doing the Masters. It's been so long ago I can't remember but it was monumental the way they went after each other. I'm going to look it up on KZread to see if it was recorded somehow. I wish they had talked about that.

I know McCord lived in the caboose on San Luis Rey Downs GC in Bonsall. Like number 4 or 5. RIP SLRD. BTW. When they talk about bad golf, they blackballed Pat Perez after his blow up at PB early in his career. I’m talking they would only show PP if he was leading the tourney. That’s it. It didn’t help he was blowing darts every hole.

Best interview you’ve ever done Riggs……humanized Chamblee and McCord is always good. Never understood why they took McCord off the air he has a sense of humor and a way about him that is unmatched. Golf is becoming very boring with the LIV escapees and they really need McCord back….without him and Ferrety the golf telecast are like watching paint dry. Brandell is bright and funny. Love the JC Snead story who was one of the all-time assholes on the tour - - let’s see a five footer!

Chamblee was on Kolt Knost and Drew Stoltz podcast and told a great story about being in his friends wedding. It was a great and funny story but Knost and Stoltz got side tracked and started asking him about something else and he never finished it. Great job by Riggs when you have these two, just shut up and let them talk. For all the Chamblee haters, I hope they watch this.

These two guys are great! BC is so involved in the research of the game, the stats and the history. He brings a side that you might not have thought of or even agree with but you can bet your a$$ he's done the work to make sure he's not got egg on his face at days end. McCord is exactly what the producer said ... most entertaining guy on the mic in this game, period. Faherty is arguably as good. Having both together is a symphony of hilarity. You should try to get Johnny Miller on the show. Miller is the best at calling the shots. When a tour pro sh*ts the bed, Miller would let ya know and it was entertaining to get an extra inch of insight.
