True. Inexperienced crews will always be costlier regardless of the technology. Tanks have a specific niche in war. Requires alot of discipline to not use it as an IFV.

And that’s what lots of people don’t understand. Nobody ever said Leopards are invincible etc., but what makes them so much better than eastern tanks is the fact that the crew chance to survive is way way higher even when the tank gets lost.

Just look at the Russian tank crews. They are terrible, and so poorly trained. They waste their ammunition, and don't know how to skilfully move in battle. Give me 1 Ukrainian tank crew over 5 Russian tank crews any day.

Yes, but keep in mind that few hits into same spot will penetrate everything. But Leopard’s crew will survive more shots than T-72. It gives crew higher chance of surviving. NATO has never been in this type of war, Ukraine doesnt have airsuperiority. And those Leopards were built according this strategy, so for Leopards to survive, they have to do some heavy lifting and all they do is extra work which wasnt calculated in design. Im not saying its bad tank (its not!), but the way of designing it wasnt this type of war. Ukraine needs F-16, newest rockets and glide bombs and all other ground launch long range rockets. In very high numbers like several thousands of units. We cant give Ukraine 100tanks and to expect any break through russian lines without destroying all ammo caches and hubs 100km far from front. Abrams, Leopards, Challengers are best tanks in 2024, but they cant win without long range rockets support to cripple everything russia has.

In the west, you have multiple companies competing for a contract. The proposals get selected and prototypes are made. Then the product gets shipped off to testing to see if it matches up with what the army wants. You gotta overestimate. If you dont and it underperforms during testing, then the army rejects it in favour of your competitor. In the USSR? There was maybe two design bureaus that competed at best. And even then, it was more politics than money that motivated them.

The image @ 1:20 shows a Leo 2A4 not the 2A6. I think Ukraine also received some of those but i tough most are 2A6 variants. The turret looks quite different compared to the A4. Good to hear these new tanks help defending Ukraine and are keeping the people inside safe.

For some reason there is a Swiss factory that would be much faster at producing these shells than factories elsewhere. Don't know why but this has been mentioned several times in other videos.

without closing the 'fridge' door one can get down to a 3 second cadence (former Leopard 1 tank commander). So I guess with the safety door to the ammunition 'bunker' a good crew might be able to sustain a 4 second cadence. This only limited by the ammo and the used shell casings rolling on the floor. At three to four seconds cadence one isn't able to dispose them to the outside ...

Its exciting to hear that they shrugged off 4 instances of being hit! A soviet tank likely gives you a chance of 1 in 4... Thats pretty much the most important quality of a tank that is inherently capable in the offensive role. Hardware can be replaced or fixed, lost experience can not. I wonder if this version of my comment gets deleted as well. Its truly pathetic how aggressive the comment filter operates on these channels...

He reminds me of a cab driver we had when I went to Washington D.C. with friends to see the Cherry Blossoms bloom. We had a cab driver who had an interesting approach to driving. I recognized his accent as I had neighbors who were Bosnian. I asked if he was Bosnian and he said yes and I fought in the war. Being Bosnian and a Muslim we will never have peace and with all the threats we received it is safer to come to the US. He took a sharp right and I asked what he had done in the war and he laughed and said I drover a tank. Why? Can you tell from my driving? My friends and I burst out laughing and we said your driving is excellent, quite uh precise. We stopped at our destination and he turned and smiled and was surprised that we tipped him heavily and he just looked at us somewhat puzzled. I told him that this is a story I'm going to tell to friends and family and perhaps strangers so thank you for the experience of being driven around D.C. by a former tank driver. I just wish we had been in a tank instead of a cab. He laughed and said not when they are firing at you. We were both still laughing as he drove off.
