Agreed. My father-in-law was 19 when he married my mother-in-law, who was 23 with a 3 year old and a 16 month old. Bio-Dad had signed away his parental rights to get out of paying back child support. Having raised two sons who are in their 20s, I can't imagine a 19 year old marrying a whole family like that.

You don't have to be related by blood to be family. That's actually the case with my maternal grandfather. I'm not related to him by blood, but I still think of and remember him as being my real grandfather, and I know that my mother considers him to be her real father despite her not being related to him by blood either. My mother's biological father one day just up and left without a word and never returned, leaving my grandmother to raise my mother alone until she re-married, so I have absolutely zero interest in ever meeting or knowing my maternal grandfather (I don't even know or care if he's still alive or has passed away). Even though I was still very young when he passed away (his own mother actually outlived him by a large margin), I was 9 when he passed away, but I still remember that every time I saw him, he'd give me a $1 bill. And the few photos there are of him and me together (one of which is of me sitting on his lap while he drives a riding lawnmower....with his hat on my head) clearly shows how much we enjoyed each other's company.

Since none of us know the reason for the divorce, we can never judge them. He was there for the most important time in their lives, helping to successfully transition them from childhood to young adulthood. He earned the title of Daddy. Any man can father a child. It takes a real man to be a Daddy. Since the divorce was amicable and they agreed to co-parent, it showed they kept the children's welfare and needs ahead of their own. Good on them.

My two sisters and I were adopted by a childless aunt and uncle when our father was killed during WWII, and our mother took off. It was a life-long blessing for all of us because there were no better parents on the face of the globe and we were blessed by ending up with them, and successful adults, with one teacher, another a Registered Nurse, and me as a Graduate Professor. Otherwise, we would have been mired is a very dysfunctional family. This reminds me of that situation, and Cody is definitely a REAL man, and fatherhood is what that demands.

My dad did that on every one of my birthdays up until he died.

God bless him and the girl’s’ mother in bringing them up in the Spirit of the Lord!
