Perhaps one of my saddest songs ever, it is unknown but an important part of our history!

@@Herrworth can you upload more songs from 1500-1700s? Although Camerata Trajectina recorded a lot of them, and they are pretty easy to be found, I always wanted to read the translation (my personal favourite - "Silvia mijn Lief")

@@matwiw Ofcourse my friend, I also have the lyrics for the song you mentioned: C: Sylvia, my love, my sweet angel; listen, Why are you fleeing? Ay, do stay, and hear just a word. S: Corydon, stop it; go and take these desires To someone who will answer these sighs and laments. C: I would love no-one in the world the way I love you. O shepherdess, don't put me off, I give you my sheep. S: O you wayward knaves, Pretty words are truly what I detest. C: Ay, Goddess! S: I ignore love. C: Don't disdain me. S: Corydon. C: Lovely sun. S: Won't you please think it over? C: Look at this poor shepherd. S: Don't press your love any further. C: Let your soul be sweetly moved. S: I don't want what you want to give. C: But you have good reason. S: Quiet! Be content: I'll talk to you, but not like this. C: That fickle, wanton, blind child [Cupid] Makes me crazed, enrage, senseless. S: Oh stop such prattle. C: Ah! now you start to hate me. Save me from this burning fire. S: I would now quickly fulfil All that you, shepherd, desire of me, Just what would that be? C: Just heal my soul. I wish no greater joy here on earth. S: Stout shepherd. C: Trust me. S: Your lambs are wandering. C: Sylvia. S: Don't come near me. C: If only my soul could describe it. S: Corydon, then what would that be? C: I would picture sorrow and pain. S: That's not how you overcome me. C: Please grant me just this once. S: What else are you after? C: That I, your shepherd, Might kiss your lips again and again. S: No flattery of love, or no kiss O Corydon, would satisfy me. C: Tell me what's your pleasure. S: Hush, pull yourself together, You're so lovesick, and too wound up. C: Slow down? O no, o nymph, young maiden, You're the goal my thoughts are seeking. S: Oh, what madness! C: Days, years, hours; No-one has stolen my soul as you have. S: You're joking with me. C: You enrapture me. S: You're crying wanton tears. C: You've undone me. S: Flee the fire. C: No, I come to admonish you. S: Whatever for? Corydon, you're kidding. C: My admonishment alone will suffice... S: To suffer for your pleasure. C: No, it is a much sweeter matter. S: O please be still. C: It is to capture Your heart, mind, and love as a sure thing. S: My brothers graze their flocks on the yonder land, They would speak of my great shame. C: Oh, please don't worry. S: No, wait until tomorrow, I'll give you my heart as a token. C: Come, let us walk by the waterstream. Go sit and rest under this tree. S: Evening is setting. C: I'll stable my animals, Who now wander lost and unrestrained. S: See the ram. C: See the lamb. S: Truly it's a wonder. C: That the flocks, S: Here in this place, C: Root about from top to bottom. S: And the sucklings there, C: Drink from the clear brooks. S: To slake their burning thirst. C: Along the hot and dry sand. S: Come, let us stroll, C: From now on what The shepherd will do always helps his shepherdess.
