Stormtroopers ambushed on Jedha! | Rogue One: a Star Wars story

Ойын-сауық

Saw Gerrera's "extremist" rebels ambush Imperial stormtroopers on the planet Jedha causing a shootout to break out in the streets of the holy city. Several of Gerrera's forces had surrounded a group of Imperial stormtroopers and already hunkered down among the local buildings in preparation for this surprise attack.

    sorry for late reply, but very much indeed. They get the job done when they get the fair chance to. Otherwise, it's like saying the Orks in LOTR are incompetent 'cause Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli (3 legends!) slaughter them, just as a villain would slaughter good guy troops. But troop vs troop is the real show of competence (also free from plot armour). Part of why I REALLY like the battle scenes in this movie. It was nice to see the Tie Fighers get the cockpit scenes of shooting down rebel pilots, imperl troops had to break out of that bunker entrance and had a hard time unti the AT-CTs arrived. Then it turned into the rebels getting shot the INSTANT they poked their head above cover. (but also showed real grunt and grit of the rebels, Rogue One and the Battle of Hoth had me interested in the rebels as they had real casualties, but also showed good grit against the enemy, while not just turning the stormtroopers needlessly into mindless target practice) Plus, the armour never looked better imo. The troopers' armour looks very solid (nice to see it work too, also chips and damage flying as Chirrut hit them with the (metal edged, btw, not just wooden stick, with Kyber crystal inside) stick weapon...clearly hitting them VERY hard. Imo one of the best SW movie. Showed also the Empire as the cold huge entity it is (SPOILERS--- Tarkin casually ordering the Death Star to fire on the secret base, even though the troopers had cleared out all the rebels aside from the main 2 heroes (I guess they hint at they had pulled out by then, though, like in Jeddah). That's why the troopers all wear that white armour and NEVER take off their helmets. It's symbolic of the Empire. Whoops, hehe. hkinda tipsy ramble but yeah. I love seeing SW armies go against each other in balanced scenarious (FFG games like X-Wing (where TIE fighter swarms area feared), Armada and now Legion...very cool). I answered your one line with like...23 XD ).

    IMHO, this is the closest Disney has gotten into capturing the flavour of the original trilogy and being able to bring StarWars to a new approach. The BlackHawkDown treatment of this action scene still has the charm of a fantasy Epic with some subtle strokes right there. "Rogue One" is the best SW Disney film.

    In tactical terms, there are benefits to the driver and/or commander of any tank vehicle being outside of the cupola/hatch. These benefits include but are not limited to better visuals on the surroundings at an unblocked 360 degree view compared to whatever limits the viewports might give. Another beneficial factor is easy communication with infantry to make sure they do not get involved in cross fire or even run over by the heavy vehicle. A notable example of these tactics in other cinematography would be Fury where WWII American Sherman tank crews usually operated in this configuration. Yes on the other hand there is safety but remember the Empire cares more about being effective and deadly than lowering trooper casualties

    In some ways I prefer SOLO. It captured the feel of a SW: adventure well. There's still things I didn't like in SOLO. Like the Droid. I thought Lando was well acted but I didn't like how he was treated in the film, he seemed to come across as a bit of a loser, he didn't seem to earn (our) respect. The Falcon chase is a good example, everybody is being useful except for Lando (he brings the ship, he brings the droid, and those things prove useful), but Lando himself doesn't do much except become the butt of jokes. Certain things felt odd / rushed.

They disregard rules of engagement & innocent lives who're in the crossfire were either injured or dead. Espcecially they show no mercy to Imperial officials or collaborators alike. The husband was a Afghanistan War Veteran and as he put, when the "S" hits the fan, you really CAN'T tell what's going on so the game was pretty 'on the mark' in that aspect.

    Honestly, I think they missed a good opportunity to show that not everyone in the empire was bad in that scene. They should’ve had a stormtrooper, or some imperial officer save the kid. It’s kinda like Germany during World War II. There was a difference between the Nazis and your average soldier. And in Star Wars, the Emperor would intentionally target jobs on worlds to where the empire was basically the best employment option. So yeah, would’ve be nice if they could have touched on that topic.

    Nope, the wehrmacht and the heer was regularly executing Jews (if you bothered to look up any history you'd find plenty of wehrmacht troops shooting people in the back) and even the SS noted that they took the opportunity to raze villages in Poland and Russia with aplomb. They forcibly tattooed women who they raped "Whore for Hitler's Troops". Good try to apologize for actual murderers tho.

    What did this Battle accomplish for the Partisans? Fear... Plain and simple. Saw Gerrera had a "Fight fire with fire" mentality that was more harmful to the Rebel cause than it ever was to the Empire.

  • @blastech4095

    @blastech4095

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes quite, there is a danger of confusing who the 'bad guys' actually are in a conflict by 'fighting fire with fire', as whenever non-combatants get hurt in a Gerrera attack, this might increase sympathy for the Empire, and it certainly plays into Imperial propaganda, fighting terrorism and maintaining order & justice across the Galaxy. As the years went by the number of rebel cells (both in & out of the Rebel Alliance) only grew as the Empire's popularity deteriorated. Independent rebel cells outside the Alliance to Restore the Republic were always many times more numerous than the official party, and they didn't necessarily share the Alliance's war-ethics.

    @@blastech4095 I wonder how the Empire managed to mobilize a Military force large enough to completely conquer the Galaxy in just under a year. It was implied that the Republic Navy was extremely depleted by the end of the Clone Wars. Given how damaged the Galaxy was from the conflict it's not surprising that many would desire safety and order over freedom and chaos.

  • @blastech4095

    @blastech4095

    @@richardched6085 There is unlimited resources & industry in the Galaxy, supposing you have the economy to pay for it and the right connections. Similar military buildups were seen toward the start of the Clone Wars and again with the First Order. The first Death Star was equivalent to millions of star destroyers in material bulk and yet that was hidden in the military budget. The second Death Star and Starkiller base were even more massive. Palpatine had become extremely popular by the end of the Clone Wars. The Empire promised security and an end to corruption. The Empire was initially well-received after years of galactic war and generations of frustration with the status quo in the Senate. But as the years passed the Empire's popularity waned, so they began to rule through military might & fear, rather than through popularity. The Empire's rapid moral decline & the divisiveness it caused was preordained by the Emperor himself, a dark lord of the Sith, who fed on the despair of the Galaxy. A more idealistic magnanimous Empire might have persisted for generations or even millennia.

Its obvious that turbolasers have different power settings as much as blasters, onxatollon thrawn was ordered to capture the rebels, so he ordered a very low yeld to only damage structures and weaken defenses, on lothal he proofs to not be thrawn by sending his ship at 100 m off the ground because he needs to shut ezra up finally but then cant just obliterate the city in one blow, also the visual of the orbital bombardment is either meant as something happened very recently or something that should've extinct everything on the planet but because filoni is a pussy it didn't
