@@firebottle8402 Why? from the onset there were planets that immediately refused to join the Empire and had to be subjugated. Yeah you could just bombard the planet from orbit with your fleet but then that's not going to win you any brownie points with the rest of the systems, if they think their only options are death or join, then many will rather risk choosing death cause of such an overbearing Empire, but if they think their options are join or a normal defeat followed by subjugation, not mass destruction...that's different, some will fight but part of the reason they are fighting is because they know "it can't get any worse than this once we lose", they are brave enough to fight because they think they have a chance and don't expect to be bombarded from orbit...and they won't be because it would make turning other systems to your side if they see you in a bad light and increase the chances that they join together against you. So you gotta play politics and appearances a bit as the Emperor. If you meant something else then sry.

@@firebottle8402 It does make sense though. If the planet has resources that have to be captured and the Empire can't just orbital bomb them into submission, then they are forced to undertake a ground-based campaign which (against an experienced military opposition like the Mimban locals) is going to be a slow and bloody slog no matter how you slice it. When you have to capture locations intact without wrecking them completely it's going to devolve into a firefight, where the defenders have the advantage of digging in and waiting for you to come at them. Even though it's likely the Empire will eventually win since they can pull in troops and resources from all over the galaxy, while the defenders only have their local resources and population, it's going to be an absolutely miserable time for the soldiers and leaders on the ground.

I love how this short scene is just so perfect. It shows the Army as a combined arms warfare machine which air assaults in armored fighting vehicles with support of infantry while close air support missions are being conducted. The one real officer we see before dying recognizes Solo despite the chaos of battle immediately and motivates him and his unit with positive reinforcement. Lore wise, Vader and more competent Imperials favored Generals over the Admirals, as the Army and General Staff didn’t enjoy the overwhelming funding and support of the Navy, which resulted in a pragmatic and efficient fighting force which favored effectiveness and competency above all else. Compared to the Navy which never struggled and grew complacent and heavily rigid, where Solo is instantly sacked for disobeying an order which would have gotten him killed, the Army awards outside the box thinking and the ability to take action without a crippling chain of command.

There are so many possibilities for plots that could be extracted from the SW universe without even mentioning jedi or the force. Some would say, at least a bit of force presence is necessary for a story to be true Star Wars, but RO would've also worked without Darth Vader in action or the "I'm one with the force" thing. Imagine a small planet just rebelling against the empire or Coruscant underworld stories. I love the force and lightsabers but watching a simple being fighting in a world actually dominated by overpowering "higher beings" provides an attraction. It also would feed the circumstance that at least in GCW and afterwards the force and the jedi are just myths...

Many soldiers were so well trained they could 1vs1 a sith, like wise new tech was being made every day, it was the height of wars like this. What’s crazy is that in Legends Han Solo was actually a very good pilot and soldier and was commissioned as a Lieutenant out of the Academy. And Disney made him a goober who did the “boring conversation” bit to his superior while he was in the process of failing to control his fighter, then mouth off like an idiot to a tribunal for insubordination and have no idea what rank the officers around him were for comedic effect. Rewatching, he never even graduated the flight academy?! He was one of the best in his class and an officer, and the Disney interpretation is that he couldn’t fly and never graduated. It’s called character development. Just because in Star Wars he was snarky and didn’t respect authority doesn’t mean he was always like that.

As I recall it, Han was originally from a well to do family on Corellia. He got kicked out of the navy due to being to independent and he had a bit of a concience. His family disowned him, and he turned to a life of crime to essencially afford to eat. It would make sense for Han to be jaded as a result of such a crappy early life. The Solo movie wasn't a bad film necessarilly, but it ruined Han Solo as a character. Funny how no one points out how the tie pilots shouldn't be wearing open faced helmets due to their fighters not having life support systems. It's always the little things that make or break the story, and disney/hollywood have long since forgotten this fact. That's why their films keep turning out disappointing.

@@billyparker5974 Not exactly. He was from an important family but he didn’t know it. I believe he was abandoned under mysterious circumstances at a spaceport where he was picked up by pirates and raised among them, a Wookiee taking on a maternal role. At some point he escaped the pirates and joined the Navy, where he did well and was a Lieutenant. However he was assigned to the distasteful duty of overseeing Wookiee slaves, and he refused to execute one because of his fond memories of the one who raised him and instead helped them escape assaulting his commanding officer in the process. He went with them to avoid punishment, and the Wookiee was Chewbacca. I don’t believe he found out that his family was important or even who they were until years after the Empire was defeated.

2:12 Perfect use of the classic soundtrack at a key moment and melt it with the original score. A thing that some production tend to forget, like Kenobi or Rogue one, and only left the score for final scenes of the film.
