My GPA was with the Army in N. Africa, Sicily, Italy, Omaha Beach and Germany..he spoke 2 times about it, once in my 5th grade class on Veterans Day...he spoke 5mins about it, then sat down down with tears running down his face...he was a welder after the war, which made me the man n welder I am today #BRCC #BESTDAMNCOFFEE 🤘🇺🇸

I’ve always said that also. Think of the men in Bastogne. Could you imagine the outrage of our politicians and people back home if we went into battle with no cold weather gear or didn’t have the tools to fight. I was in Ramadi 06-07. It doesn’t even scratch the surface of what those men went through. The Greatest Generation indeed.

It is so important to tell stories about great men like Mr. Rondo Scharfe. He went to war even when he wasn't legally old enough to serve and then continued to serve as a firefighter after the war. Thanks for adding the anecdote of him making the save as firefighter! Not only did he see horrific combat in the South Pacific as a young man, he came home and continued to hang it out and get dangerous tasks done AND he was a wildland firefighter in his 60s.

What a hero and legend! These stories deserve to be told! As a grandson of an Australian WWII veteran(2nd/40th battalion, 2nd AIF), I have complete respect for this man and his incredible history. As an RAN veteran myself I have an even greater appreciation of this. What an incredible gentleman!

Love this….I had the opportunity while stationed in Japan with VFA-192 to go to Iwo Jima three times….you can still see landing craft beached on the shore as you’re about to land….I always considered that place hallowed ground….and every WWII / Korean War vet I have ever met,I have always enjoyed listening to them tell their stories. With fewer and fewer alive,their stories are all that’s left. I appreciate BRCC letting these final few tell their stories and recognizing them for their service as the Greatest Generation

My Father served in the Royal Navy in WW2 in the North Atlantic and then in Africa and then Italy. I wish he had told me more...

My dad joined the US Navy at 16 years of age and after training went immediately to the Pacific. He was stationed aboard the USS Montpelier which was a Heavy Cruiser. He was in the thick of it from New Guinea, the Philippines, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and finally Okinawa. He spoke to me twice about his service and one time he was telling me about Okinawa and how that battle was the one that scared the living hell out of him because of all the kamikazes. He said his ship fired so much anti-aircraft munitions that they almost ran out. He also said that any Japanese that they saw in the water they immediately eliminated because they couldn't be trusted not to throw a grenade or pull a weapon out and kill a sailor. He said he had no qualms about doing this because he wasn't going to let any of his Shipmates die. You did your job well Dad, rest in peace❤

Damn fine choice for the subject and another damn fine production! The world needs more Rondos in it. He reminds me of my grandfather, he was a mechanic & wrecker driver for the "Big Red 1". G-pa was fortunate to not have to storm any beaches in France but he did participate in the capture of several separate cells of Nazi officers hiding in the barns of the French farmers who turned them into the Americans! He told me several stories on how aquired some nice "souvenirs" from those officers, very generous they where, lol.

As someone mentioned earlier. That was our greatest generation. Todays “kids” will NEVER understand. I also did my time 1982-2002.. went as a kid, came retired as a MAN. HOWEVER, I’m thankful that I never had to endure the horrors that this GREAT MAN had to endure. I have PTSD due to things I experienced, but no where close to what this MAN Carries on his shoulders

As a Navy veteran I loved this guys story. Being a coxswain driving himself and 36 guys onto Iwo Jima. How did that boat manage to carry all of those men and they’re huge American testicles onto that beach. Truly the greatest generation.

My parents were the world war II generation. My dad was in the army. The greatest generation earned that name not just from there military courage but most of them suffered through the Great depression as children and then went on to see culture turned on its head during the 60s. My parents and all their friends took these trials selflessly and as you would expect from the greatest generation.

The Greatest Generation to have lived, thank you Rondo for your service. My Grandfather was a Tech Sgt. in the Army stationed at Hickam Field November 1941, he later became a Fighter and was the reason I followed his footsteps in both the military and civilian world. God Bless You Rondo❤

This man's story reminds me of my uncle, may he rest in peace, he went in at 17 and in a couple years he was flying a B-24 Liberator in and bombing the shit out of "Hitler's Gas Station". After 52 runs his plane got shot down my one of "Goring's Yellow Nose Squadron" and crashed right before they made it back to base. He and 5 others out of the 11 man crew lived. He never liked to talk about it much but did to my brother and me many times. He inspired quite a few of his nieces and nephews to join the military. He died of cancer in 2005 and he is missed. This man's story is equally inspiring.

My parents were the world war II generation. My dad was in the army. The greatest generation earned that name not just from there military courage but most of them suffered through the Great depression as children and then went on to see culture turned on its head during the 60s. My parents and all their friends took these trials selflessly and as you would expect from the greatest generation.

The Greatest Generation to have lived, thank you Rondo for your service. My Grandfather was a Tech Sgt. in the Army stationed at Hickam Field November 1941, he later became a Fighter and was the reason I followed his footsteps in both the military and civilian world. God Bless You Rondo❤

This man's story reminds me of my uncle, may he rest in peace, he went in at 17 and in a couple years he was flying a B-24 Liberator in and bombing the shit out of "Hitler's Gas Station". After 52 runs his plane got shot down my one of "Goring's Yellow Nose Squadron" and crashed right before they made it back to base. He and 5 others out of the 11 man crew lived. He never liked to talk about it much but did to my brother and me many times. He inspired quite a few of his nieces and nephews to join the military. He died of cancer in 2005 and he is missed. This man's story is equally inspiring.
I have nothing but the greatest respect for that man.
