I just realized I was in this Windsor a year after this happened. I flew down to Denver to spend a week with my ex. Her mom lives in Windsor. As we were headed into town to have Thanksgiving dinner with her family, she told me about this tornado and how it ripped the roof off the grain elevator. She didn't tell me about the rest. I had no idea it was this bad. Windsor is a beautiful area.

The news was warning of tornados left and right, even remember a report of circling clouds over Estes Park. I live in Windsor now since 2012. Population has more than doubled since this came out. Ugg. Yesterday there was a tornado south-east of us and I told my client about this one that hit Windsor, he had no idea. But it was traveling Northwest instead, barely missing FoCo, and hitting Wellington (our Northern neighbor town)... before it finally lifted, retracting back into the clouds. Well yeah, OBVIOUSLY anyone in a tent/camper isn't deliberately choosing to shelter there...over any readily available, obviously much sturdier, permanent structures on foundations. The poor guy who died in his RV, his home, had close to zero warning...as his location was at the very start of the tornados path of destruction, literally right by where it first touched down. His time to act was short, and his options limited, so he simply tried his best to survive where he was... exactly what we'd all do in that situation. Unfortunately he wasn't one of the lucky ones, as all the other campers at his location survived. In hindsight there are always dozens of "what ifs", or "shoulda, coulda's"... minutely different decisions, that could've resulted drastically different outcomes. Some sad sad stuff to think about...which I'm sure his loved ones have suffered from ever since. Which is why I personally don't think it's appropriate to be dispensing any of Captain Obvious' patented, worthless, and always unsolicited, advice...but that's just my opinion. And please don't misinterpret my intentions here. I'm honestly not trying to be mean, or an asshole, or harsh when I say all of this. I guess, I'm simply trying to to help you possibly see your comment from a different angle...and maybe even recognize how silly, unnecessary, and insensitive it could be perceived as. To give it some perspective, this comment would be equivalent to a person commenting on a video about someone perishing in a house fire..."If you're in a burning house, get outside!! A house that's on fire isn't a safe place to be!!" 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻

I was a newborn, unaffected but shook that I lived through that. Not a really sad story but my mom was telling me how she was calling her work, aka king soopers, which was still open with people working inside. She told them to shut down but went to get her last friend she had to “save”. He was the only one in the State Farm and asked what was wrong, my mom said “there’s a damn tornado you’re coming with me”. We drove back to Greeley and stayed inside with her family. We were fine but it was really weird. After the storm we realized that it wasn’t ur average tornado in Colorado. We knew by the news. Anyways that’s basically my moms story not mine but yeah, that’s all :).

Yea in eastern weld county. They are usually very small, hardly do any damage and they almost never go this far west of weld county. Windsor is like the west most town in weld so it was a surprise.

I don’t think you ever forget a tornado. Even if you were a child when it affected your life. Fifty some years ago, a tornado hit the back of my grandparents house. They got my great grandmother and themselves to the root cellar a second before it hit. They were very lucky. The way the old house was built, the kitchen was an addition and it was gone. They were fine! That’s all that matters. I was seven or eight at the time. I have never forgotten going to help salvage what we could from the mess. They all moved in with us as we had the most empty bedrooms while the kitchen was rebuilt. This happened in Southern Minnesota in the late 50’s.

I was at work in Loveland when this hit. My boss and I had both lived in Oklahoma and looked at each other and both agreed that it looked like a tornado was about to develop. I took my purse and bottle of water and went to the inside of the building and sat on the steel steps (no windows!) while everyone else sat in their office and looked out the window (BIG windows) and continued to work. We were lucky that it did not come in our direction. I thought when I moved there from Oklahoma that I was free of tornadoes!

8:47. You were in the rear flank down draft. It can be almost as strong as the tornado itself. It’s rolled semis, torn roofs off houses, collapse small buildings, turned cars over. You guys got lucky. No tornado footage is worth your life!! Next time just video it over your shoulder as you run away 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I work at daycare. Single ground floor. I couldn’t imagine trying to get the babies into the emergency cribs and trying to find a safe place. We’ve done it only for fire drills but we go outside for that. You can’t do that in a tornado. And now I’m thinking about the safest places in my daycare to shelter kiddos.

In Stratton Colorado it was gonna hit but it missed the farm it technically almost hit us but my family was lucky and my dad was chased by a multi vortext tornado near the Denver airport he survived and made it to my grandparents farm and the system that hit Denver was right behind him this took place in 8th grade in the summer

Luck perhaps because that Tornado as huge as it was just sideswiped that day care center, literally just a few feet to the right and we'd be seeing this as an epic tragedy. Thankfully the powers that be were looking out for them that day, not to mention the teachers doing the best they could with what they had. Well done to the staff making sure all those kids were safe.
