I'm a one-handed, no-thumb bowler with a few questions as I plan to purchase a new ball next week. I typically bowl at a speed of 14-15 mph, and my no-thumb technique results in about a 360 RPM rev rate. I've been using a Spectre, which has served me well, helping me get close to two 300 games. However, in my new league, it seems to be delivering a less favorable reaction than before. I suspect it might be due to my unique layout of 4 5/8, 3 1/2, 2 1/2. Admittedly, I didn't have much knowledge about 2LS drillings at the time, so I made a somewhat arbitrary choice. I've since determined my PAP to be -5 and a quarter right with a half-inch down. My questions are: Did you make any adjustments to the surface of your ball, and do you have any recommendations based on the information I've provided, both as a bowler and in choosing a new ball? Thank you.

I like to take my balls down to 2k to get the Reactagloss off, then up to 4k, and then I let them lane shine naturally. I take them back to 4k every so often, 2 or 3 months or when the surface looks like it needs a refresh, or if the ball isn't shaping the way I like. What is the Spectre doing that you consider "unfavorable" and I can possibly make a better recommendation.

Nice bowling! That’s a nice layout for you and that ball. I was thinking about trying that layout or storms 2LS short pin layout you used on the absolute except on my phase2. I’m a high track righty two hander with 450-500revs and 15-18mph at the pins. Any recommendations? My PAP is 6-3/8 right by 2-1/4 down so I track the opposite angle as you, track starts over my middle finger and moves away. My second question is, do I have like 0-8° of tilt?

Hey Gregory. Typically speaking, if your track starts over your middle finger, you definitely have low tilt, probably 0-3 degrees if I had to guess, but you would want to measure to make sure. You have a lot of Revs so a short pin could be a good idea. I use mine to basically emulate a urethane type shape, so I can move right and play straighter with a controlled shape to the pocket, without any over reaction or jumpiness on the backend. I haven't tried a short pin on a symmetric ball, it's not as widely recommended, so I can't say for sure how safe it would be.

greg, i'm a 2 hander too and my PAP is 4-5/16 right and 2-1/16 down 540 revs. I usually track one flare line on the edge of my middle finger, and I have 5* of tilt, so you're probably a little less. I used 4x4x4 -2LS on my new fate and it's by far the best reaction I have ever had on a ball. it's probably a little stronger than a benchmark layout, but it's amazing. Don't have any experience with short pin layouts yet cause I just started laying out my own stuff....

@@jptheredsoxfan That’s awesome. I may mark that layout myself and have my pro shop drill it. My PSO likes to use dual angle layouts but I wanna try 2LS. I’d like to be able to convert a 2LS layout to dual angle so he can do it. He used a 70x4.5x35 on my legion solid and it goes thru the pins nice. I wonder if a dual 55x4.5x25 is close to a 4.5x4x4 2LS?

@@gregorybrillant7775 not sure, but I’d highly advise you to either lay the stuff out yourself or get him to start doing 2LS. any of my stuff laid out before 2LS was extremely hit or miss. If you’re not using your thumb (I assume you’re not), you need a system designed for that

@@jptheredsoxfan I agree. And I’m a no thumb two hander. I tried to get him to use 2LS. They have the steps of 2LS posted on the wall but dual angle is quicker he said and amounts to the same thing, but it really doesn’t. The typical angles used in dual angle are sometimes way different than 2LS if converted back. I’ll just invest in a prosect, pencil and flex ruler.

Why did you switch to no thumb

I've always been a low rev player, and have plateaued at about a 210 average without being able to get any higher, so I decided to give 2 handed bowling a try to see if I could break that ceiling. It's been a humbling experience, but I did achieve my highest series. Next week is the start of season 2, and then after the year is over I'll evaluate for the future of whether I'm going to stay 2 handed or go back to 1.
