    I spend the summers in North Dakota which unfortunately are not poly tunnel territory but always enjoy living vicariously through you. Yes 70 mile per hour winds are not uncommon during the spring and summer when I would want one. To add to it the wind always comes up from the south side of the property where I would want one. On the bright side we don't have all the fungal problems I'm used to in New England.

    Indeed yes. Winds like that can easily destroy a tunnel and its certainly a constant worry during times of weather like that about polytunnel destruction! The worry and potential costs rebuilding just make it not worthwhile in so many cases.

    Brilliant video Dan! I’m looking to get into growing grapes and a variety I saw you mention was lakemont seedless, I was wondering whether you think it’d be better suited to polytunnel growing or outside. Also do you think I could create a wigwam to support it? 😊

    If your in a climate such as here (Essex UK) I would grow Lakemont Seedless outside. Does great outside here.

    Mines in the corner down the bottom of the garden. Next to a very thick trimmed conifer hedge and silver burch's. Get good protection from the summerhouse too. Still managed to get a couple of minor tears though. The frame is connected to a framework of galvanised steel. Steel so it hopefully shouldn't disappear.

    I've collected a considerable amount of fruit and vegetables peel just wondering if there's a worm to buy to help break it down with compost

  • @homegardens7682

    @homegardens7682

    5 ай бұрын

    This is something I have never worried about. I just put the organic matter together, turn it and then the red worms come naturally which I think are called tiger worms. If your compost is mainly peels it's highly likely you have too much Nitrogen, maybe add some cardboard. That can help.

    Hi. May I ask the dimensions of your polytunnels? Can I use polytunnel this coming spring to protect my blueberries from squirrels? Can sunlight penetrate thru polytunnel?

  • @homegardens7682

    @homegardens7682

    5 ай бұрын

    3 X 2 metres (10 X 6.6 feet). Yes, you can do that, I keep some blueberries in a polytunnel year round. Great to stop birds as well. Light can penetrate but not as good as if it was clear plastic. That is a drawback of the green plastic.
