Just because they drive off does not mean there is no damage in the engine. There is not a distant enough view on these shots to see if they did survive. The Kia looked rather jerky driving off. Looking at Rufford Ford cars can make it 300 yards up the road before they grind to a halt. Even if the engine runs on valve stems or even con rods can be bent and the engine is compromised even if it does not break at the time. Putting any bulk water through a turbocharger is not advisable. Often there is a very nasty turbocharger whine if they manage to restart these engines. It is an expensive way to save a few seconds and the mental effort of slowing the car.

Love this…. First location is Just down the road from me. All the locals say of the water is past the little cover on the left side then don’t risk it.

Sutton is one of my favourite Fords beautiful scenery and only 15 mins down the road for me. Just a shame it’s not deep very often

And the car insurance company picks up the bill if the water does get into the vital components? Or are cars now designed to be sub aqua?

They don't pick up the bill at all once the assessor makes their assessment they determine how the damage was caused, for the vast majority of insurance companies this is classed as " avoidable damage " which mean no pay out or a very very poor pay-out that benefits them and if the vehicle is a private lease ( PCP) then the person leasing the car will be substantially out of pocket because the lease company will want recompense for their vehicle being seriously devalued.

if you pass with your back in reverse, the chances of the engine pulling water are considerably reduced.

⚠️Water still comes through the doors though, and guess where some electronic modules are? Yep under the carpets on some models especially Mercedes

I don’t think storm Henk has anything to do with it, the Drivers are the problem here.
