    This is the same method I used on my first trip out to Maytown, many years ago. Nice pan of specks, in a home made sluice. I'll have to put a much bigger hole in my Miller table. Keep digging, the more dirt and rocks you wash the more gold you will have.

    I have an idea, mount the clasifier to a wheelbarrow with hinges so you can tip off the rocks then dump the wheelbarrow of dirt in the giant sluice. 🤔

    Just can't say thanks enough for the home made miller table build, I never thought that piece of equipment was something I could make in my garage, I've made something like a blue bowl, from a Bundt cake pan. . . . And I've modified my Keene dry washer to function like a high banker with a 2,000 gallon per hour pump, but I never thought I could make my own miller table!!! Thank you sir, wish I could shake your hand!! Hey, GOD Bless you and yours, even Mr. Sweatpants!!

    I am just getting in to prospecting, but we're extremely poor. So equipment like this has been a big part of my efforts. Your "Mega Sluice" inspired my current design. I built a dredge raft with a 12V suction dredge, and it feeds a box that is right around half a meter wide(19.5 inches) and about 1 meter long(38 inches). I'm taking my girlfriend and my 9 year old son out to do a family prospecting day some time this week if all goes as planned. I just finally got the dredge nozzle working right today so that's a huge milestone. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll try to get our adventure up on KZread as soon as we get back!

    Tie a tension string from center of the iron screen around the tree and tighten it a bit. This should do 2 things. 1. Will remove the bounce out of the screen and 2. create a convex shape to focus the cons into the bucket a bit better. Just my couch prospecting idea.

    DIY is just an awesome feeling isn't it 😝 I went a bit too overboard and made a aluminium folding sluice with flare and then I went on to make mini-vortex mats in silicone for it. So much fun making it, so amazing to see gold caught when using it. Took bloomin ages though. Keep up the DIY!

    2:09 Actually, removing all the larger stones makes the bucket heavier, as there is less air space between particles of small gravel/sand.

  • @SandhillCrane42

    @SandhillCrane42

    10 ай бұрын

    That's a theory and maybe science proves it. Certainly screening is a huge upgrade for material and the big stuff stays where it should. Rocks tend to be denser than sand. It's probably a volume in the container thing-air is very light, but there's more air in sand than rock. If you get enough air in with the rocks, they'll be lighter than the sand. This is a persistent truism. Go pick up a 5 gallon rock if you don't believe me.

    While we might not have that type of gold around here, we do have traces of ancient fluvial deposits left behind by glaciers from the last ice age. I love that you enjoy making your own equipment. The gold that you got pretty much paid for the materials to make your sluice. It is almost all profit when you use that sluice now. Most of us take it for granted that all we have to do is go down to our local mining supply store and pick up whatever we need.

    I like the homemade equipment idea and how good it works. It surely gives you extra fun using it. Simple is often better and the larger surface of the low banker seems to change the water flow to work very efficient. I could also imagine that you are able to carry the lighter equipment now to places which are hardly accessible with all the heavy stuff you have to carry using the normal highbanker and pump. Imagine, lowbanking at places where nobody tried it in recent times :) Great work, happy to see more.

    I'm just wondering out loud here, but would a plastic watering can be easier to use than a bucket? A plastic watering can would seem to be easier to carry than a bucket, the spout would help control the flow of water, and plastic would be lightweight and not rust like a metal watering can.

Best over a wheelbarrow. Small mesh over support screen because big rocks don't come back out. Square screens crush clay in the corners fairly easy. Very nice strake there. Love the riffle wedges. I think for an easy water delivery system maybe one of those buckets with a pvc valve with flexible hose and the a rigid pvc pipe at the top of the low banker and you can use one bucket to file the other and the valve to control/stop flow and when your done everything just goes in the bucket.
