Last time I was at Mission Creek (many years ago now), there were bears. Such a B.C. experience for me :) Now that the pandemic has wound down, I may go out there to visit some friends in Kelowna and Penticton. The Penticton friend actually wrote a book on Okanagan geology. He's not primarily a geologist--actually a radio astronomer (retired), but has a keen interest in geology as well.

Dan the man, I was involved in a survey of the bottom of a certain river where it meets the ocean which was potentially related to the late great Slumac Jack and his lost mine. The spanish were in there with 3 galeons. Story goes that 3 ships tied abreast to each other received chunks in a metal framed leather lined basket lowered from the slopes of this particular area. I also know of an elder around the Keremeos area where I lived for 15 years where an individual would walk in a particular direction and come back every time with a nugget. Im currently inn Langley BC and it would be totally cool to sit down and share these and more stories as seeing you cover this would be incredible.

Next time maybe a wheelbarrow and a classification screen so you can get more and not have to tote buckets to the water. I would love to have a place like that here in Georgia USA, but not that lucky as the government regulates where and with what you can use. My area is pan and shovel only as well as limited places that are public without joining a club. People like myself only want to do this as a hobby and not pay thousands to access rivers that clubs have mined for many years. But love your videos, happy hunting and keep safe .

I worked a fossil location for three years with my wife. It took us 1 full year of kayaking and canoeing up and down a river to find the perfect spot. We included one person we trusted on a trip, when we returned a month later, tours were bringing people to it! I am lock a safe note when it comes to my locations. I won’t mention any KZreadrs by name, but a few claiming the “spot” to be secret, it’s not. It was when only my wife, Greg Moondog Mooney, and my self knew about it. The second we shared with an avid collector, he began tours… I know the pain, and it’s very similar. The river used to cut a creek out on the limestone layer behind a bench on where the bank is. Then after summer time, the water would recede, washing all the beautiful phosphate preserved fossils right into a patch for us to cherry pick. Largest Meg tooth found there was 7.32 inches. My favorite species is Isurus Hastalis though, and that is more rare there as this was a Meg nursery! So lots of Mommy Meg teeth, juvenile Meg teeth, so well preserved, even the kill site of their prey preserved. As you dig the ribs of the dugong up, the Meg teeth were just implanted! Also many mammoth and other ice age species in that area. All beautiful colors blue, red, etc.

That’s a great question. I’m Sure he does at times. I know when I go to my usual spots, I know there aren’t any pickers so I just dump it out. Now if I go to a place that has known pickers, then you can bet I’m sifting through it

Love the local videos the most, even if its not pickerton or dream claim gold. You should use one of your Dan Hurd buckets instead.

Thank you for explaining where the gold comes from. I've seen video's where people went further up the river and ran out of the gold. So in theory a person could literally find the source and mine it ? You also confirmed for me gold working out of seems in the river itself. Thank you for the great video's.
