Gold Discovery in an Historic Silver Mine.
My second day at Historic Cerro Gordo Silver and Lead mine, I set my sites on finding GOLD! As Brent and Jason look in the doomed Omega adit, Evan and I search for the fabled gold in far less than ideal circumstances. What and adventure and an ordeal, but we found it!

I just watched the Cerro Gordo go down to 900' video and he got a Million Viewer KZread award and left it down there...for next generation to find! He's a cool guy, and like Dan, just genuinely excited to be underground!

That was fun!
Back in the old old days placer miners were having a problem with a white metal clogging up their sluices. They threw it away because they were "gold miners by god"! Someone had the idea to take some of this stuff and have it asseyed, he found out it was platinum that they were throwing away. You can still find it in their old tailings and I've found some in my sluice in southern Oregon, but not like it was in California.

the crystal formation you found looks like Wulfenite (lead molybdate). Nice find!!!

Glad you got to spend time with Brent in Cerritos Gordo! We used to hike up to the ghost town well before he bought it; spectacular place
another great video Dan, thank you! always fun watching you do the Dan Hurd THING! XD
I started watching Jason's video, but I had to "NOPE!" right the hell out of there. My claustrophobia went into overdrive.

There were some Chinese Miners up here in the Cariboo (around Quesnel/Barkerville) who would pan out the tailings of the other types of mining and they made a fair bit off of them.
I enjoy these "Trinity" mining videos with the two or three miners I watch the most on KZread.
Pickerton Dan at it again! He's like a gold magnet

Love ya videos mate but seeing Brent hanging out between the bucket and machine gives me chills every time I see people do it with out the safety latch on the right side cylinder engaged
The orange stuff at 23:00 or so could be wulfenite - typical platy habit. It's a lead molybdate, so quite heavy. The white line in the pan could be cerussite (lead carbonate) or anglesite (lead sulfate) - both are gonna be heavy.
And here is Dan: Always on the lookout Gold.. but you always have that lucky hand. Always a pleasure watching your videos. Regards South Africa 🇿🇦.

I find it funny watching some older videos and evans voice is high pitched and now his voice is deeper. Crazy how they grow so fast my son is 18 and he has a deep voice but sometimes he sais stuff that makes me laugh from when he was younger and high pitched
My great grandfather’s uncle was Captain John Sutter who was the founder of Sutter’s mine. You know the one that kinda kicked off the whole gold rush thing. Just wish he would have been able to keep his mine in the family 😂😂😂
I have been waiting for soo long for this colab!!!! 🎉🎉
Hers a tip from somebody who lives in the snow . You guys should wait til early or late to plow the road it's soft during the day but crunchy with traction early or late
well that was fun thank you for sharing the adventure and information
thank you great to view those special color stones..
I was building sheep fencing one winter. We went out in the morning to the worksite, I got out with a mattock. I started at the edge of the trench, over the weekend we'd had snow and a hard frost. I nearly shook the teeth out of my mouth!
Crazy to see California floating away in a Canadian river. 😊 I love these videos, especially when you have the family with you. Thanks again. Until the next one #RockLove 🪨 ❤️
Awesome video !!!!!! Thank you Dan !!!!!
Amazing mine!
Lol great video, love the copper sulfides and oxides you found. The previous Cerro Gordo video was excellent at all the machinery still in use and the ones that have multiple uses like the elevator. Ingenious!
Woooow the colors 😍
Just seeing the different types of rocks in that area is amazing i always wanted to go to Greenland and pick up meteors on the ice sheet glaciers etc
Great show Dan.
The orange crystal is super cool!

Wow! You go on some amazing adventures and your friends are really cool too! From Jan in England 💕
What a joyous video, eye candy for mineral lovers
Well done sir Can’t wait to hear the results from the test
The orange crystals remind me of Wulfenite I found at a Galena mine in the North Eastern US
Thanks for modding!
Oh, oh, "...another trip to Cerro Gordo..." sounds very good.

Can’t wait to see you 2 set the sluice up at Cerro Gordo and run through those tailings

There's a dazzy chain cable or rope to not let the camera fall to far from the hand wrist. My GoPro came with a tether mini cable to anchor camera to whatever you want so it doesn't go far. If it works for you. thanks for your wonderful videos.
you find some of the coolest colors.
@DanHurd Looks like Wulfenite, a Lead Molybdate. It can be most often found as thin tabular crystals with a bright orange-red to yellow-orange color, in its yellow form it is sometimes called "yellow lead ore".
😁👋👍👍👏👏💕🙏🏻 Thank you so much for sharing this video. You guys are totally living one of my dreams.
Love how youtube miners/prospectors are getting together...
There's GOLD in them there hills !!!WHOO HOOO FROM CALIFORNIA JOHHNY AND CANDY WHAT!!!
A couple weeks ago when you pointed out that quartz vein inside Cerro Gordo, which I saw on MBM's video, my interest has been piqued about possible gold at Cerro Gordo. I can't wait until you get to explore more areas when the snow clears. So cool that Brent is open to your skills and allowing you to explore! I wish they took volunteers I'd be there in a flash! As you know visiting old mining sites with modern techniques as well as the high price of gold, makes revisiting many of these areas quite worth it! Gets me excited. I just love rocks and minerals And I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Thank you!

dissolve the white powder in Nitric acid. Add bit of tablesalt. If white percipitate forms that darkens unther light it's Silver.
You gotta have a snøfres, not a plow or digger. Them don’t work in those conditions
soooo confirmed another video at some point nice these have been great i was really hoping you were gonna go to that one place brent went when he was trying to confirm that he had smithsonite i wonder what your reaction woulda been xD cant wait to see more hopefully jason comes with again too cause the excavation video was actually so interesting i was wondering if brent was ever gonna try that really hope he can get that mine open
No idea why but the music fading it at 9:00 scared the crap out of me lol

Dan, Thank you for suffering for our pleasure:) Cheers, Rik
Very impressive to find any significant gold at all in Cerro Gordo - with millions of ounces of silver being produced there vs hundreds of ounces of gold. And both those being dwarfed by tons of lead and zinc. Maybe there are a lot of surprises hiding in the tailings piles there!
Another great video. Thanks. The area I pan is on fire right now so videos will have to suffice until I can get back out.

😬 sorry to hear that! stay safe out there....from rapidly warming CA.
Looking forward to the assay weird heavies that are there in quite high concentrations if they are valuable those tailing piles could be a valuable asset
Your mineral specimen that you panned out could be Orpiment or Wulfenite. Both are orange and both have bladed crystal forms.

Wulfenite
Kubota tractors really are fabulous
The yellow mineral looks like Wulfenite. GO BACK, DAN! I love to see those Coop´s in sutch a great area.
Dan , the yellow tabular crystals that was “heavy” barium sulphate / bayrite us3d to weight drilling muds
Dan, don't go with Jason. That mine shift has stability issues. It's clearly not safe.
Damn....just keep an ear/eye out for those tommy knockers. Those little pests seem to show up when miners die....RIP to those lost in the mine.
Yall need a sled, makes the haul easier. Plus it would be extremely fun going down the skids path. I want to go sledding now but im in texas 😢
Very interesting to see gold from places not really known for it……I am currently about to search an area without history but promising geology…..on the other side of the world in Japan.
Hope you can go back soon 😁
Oh hey! Those crystals at 23:05 sure look like Wulfenite to me.
reminding me of an old Elton John song "It's like, trying to find gold in a silver mine It's like trying to drink whiskey Oh, from a bottle of wine"
So the trick will be to go back when the tailings unfreeze, but before it gets incredibly hot.
