Gold Discovery in an Historic Silver Mine.

My second day at Historic Cerro Gordo Silver and Lead mine, I set my sites on finding GOLD! As Brent and Jason look in the doomed Omega adit, Evan and I search for the fabled gold in far less than ideal circumstances. What and adventure and an ordeal, but we found it!

Back in the old old days placer miners were having a problem with a white metal clogging up their sluices. They threw it away because they were "gold miners by god"! Someone had the idea to take some of this stuff and have it asseyed, he found out it was platinum that they were throwing away. You can still find it in their old tailings and I've found some in my sluice in southern Oregon, but not like it was in California.

The orange stuff at 23:00 or so could be wulfenite - typical platy habit. It's a lead molybdate, so quite heavy. The white line in the pan could be cerussite (lead carbonate) or anglesite (lead sulfate) - both are gonna be heavy.

I can't wait until you get to explore more areas when the snow clears. So cool that Brent is open to your skills and allowing you to explore! I wish they took volunteers I'd be there in a flash! As you know visiting old mining sites with modern techniques as well as the high price of gold, makes revisiting many of these areas quite worth it! Gets me excited.
