Honestly its hilarious to me that the makers of Avatar actually kind of brought back the "Concept Art" with the episode in which the "Team Avatar" went into a theater-play that portrayed their journey.

10:52 Partially true. Akira Toriyama only has one assistant helping him inking out the lines in the Dragon Ball manga. Inking Goku's hair was time consuming for his assistant and used up a lot of ink. So, he came up with the idea of the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation to save time and ink for his assistant. In his own words according to an interview I read from Kanzenshuu: Q: Why does Goku’s hair turn gold when he becomes a Super Saiyan? A: I decided on the design for the Super Saiyan for, to be honest… a simple reason that will leave you saying “What?”. I always have only a single person, Assistant-kun, helping me with my work. That Assistant-kun’s time was always taken up doing the black fill of Goku’s hair, so the biggest reason was in order to save time. Because when he became a Super Saiyan, we wouldn’t have to do the black fill. It also had the effect of making it easy to tell from his appearance that Goku had gotten stronger, so it killed two birds with one stone. Only, at the time, it was considered that his strength would increase 50-fold when he became a Super Saiyan, but that was a bit of an exaggeration. My feeling as the creator is that, while drawing it, I felt that it was about a 10-fold change from what it was up to that point.

Yeah, for the Cell thing it's because every time Cell moved they needed to redraw his spots perfectly, no pun intended and it was really hard to and time consuming to animate

The more you know: You can use any flat colour for "green screen". Green is just most common nowdays since it has the least issues with it. But you can do blue (which used to not be that uncommon), red, purple, brown, black, white, whatever. Its just about contrasts.

The Hating the Perfect Cell spots thing is true. Toriyama once spoke of it in an interview and it's entirely down to how the spots had to be drawn every time cell was included in a scene; every pose, movement and attack had to be hand drawn and the spots patterns placed appropriately across his form each and every time.

Yes its true. He had a penchant for calling himself lazy. We put so much stock in his work because as outsiders of the culture we can't spot the laziness like his naming system, the obvious rip offs of kinnikuman and ultraman, the story being ripped from journey to the west, the fact that he did the goku archetype already in his previous mangas, heck his running style for his characters was 1 to 1 ripped off from go nagai but we wouldn't know that because no one but an otaku with too much time would know that. Its his laziness that made it easy for foriegn audiences to digest dragonball easier since it was so simple, more than other manga and anime that were more thought out and had far more fleshed out characters but that was before that sort of thing was in somewhat in demand in western cartoons. It's like the godfather in a sense, which is also funny when you think about it. It's the authors greatest work and yet it was done for the simplest single brain cell reason; money. But we're looking for artistic integrity and throwing our admonishment on them because there's enough talent to mask that basic motivation, not to mention the talent that came with their animation and the director and actors chosen to bring both IPs to bigger audiences did heavier lifting to make them legendary

I don't think that it was necessarily that we wouldn't notice the lazy things, just that we overall cared less. Mainly cause, as you said, we're outsiders of the culture, and would generally have less attachment to anything that he was lazy about.

I think the spot thing was an off-hand joke (related to Goku's hair) during another interview on why they settled for frieza on Resurrection F movie over other later villans like cell.

Yeah, remember that "False Super Saiyan" from the Slug movie? That was what super saiyan was supposed to look like. Black hair just lifting up and no eyes, because that was from a panel from Dr. Slump where the doctor went super mad and it was supposed to be an hommage to that. That's why the "False Super Saiyan" is the way it is, because at the time that was supposed to be a sneak peak to super saiyan. But then they thought that having no eyes makes it super hard to draw emotions, so they added the eyes back in, and then one of Toriyamas assistants asked if they couldn't just make his hair golden so they didn't have to ink his hair anymore and Toriyama agreed. And that's why we got the super saiyan we know and love today.

Cell: I ain't no helicopter parent, sink or swim bitch Kid Buu meanwhile, that's like trying to talk to a gorilla, it says got your arms, you say what ar- ohhh... as you look down and don't have arms anymore, pure unadulterated raw primal bubble gum monster. Frieza on the other hand I could see sitting back, laughing in his face when he's done, and saying see ya as he one shots Naruto, or the planet if Naruto survived the attack. Even in his god like Sage of 6 paths state later in the series, as much as I love Naruto, every character in that franchise would go the way of Neji except for the plot armored Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi (uggh) Sakura, and the kage, but in the end they would still be destroyed. Maybe they could handle Frieza, BIG if maybe they could handle Cell and that'd only be possible if all the plot armor characters worked together like against Kaguya... but not Kid Buu, nor Frieza after going Gold. Kaguya on the other hand, the mother of mothers, or Madara... I could maaaybe see standing to Frieza or Cell on their own, Buu though another level, unless Kaguya and Madara truly are immortal and unkillable, regenerating from even a planetary explosion and being capable of surviving in space. Then I suppose they could win by playing the waiting game until Buu ran out of energy. You get into Super or GT though no, while Madara and Kaguya are dimensional and time bending levels of power, they still only do it on a miniscule level, their surrounding environment, meanwhile Gogeta and Broly one punch each other and they're in another universe. Beerus sneezes out goes a sun, Omega Shenron too, Jiren, they're not matching up to that, even if immortal by that point they're so beaten up they're wishing they could die.

RIP Toriyama Also according to an interview/livestream Kerry (the guy who took over writing on RWBY after Monty passed) has said that CampCamp and RWBY are still going to be worked on under new corporate management with existing partners (eg. Warner Bros, DC comics, Dark Horse, that one Japanese studio doing the manga, and Crunchyroll) which, given how much and how bad of a direction it took the last time they has a corporate take over of a show (when Monty passed) does not exactly bode well for either series.

Noble, Toriyama did a lot of things since he hated drawing it. Goku’s tail was first, he hated it so he wrote a story to get rid of it. And so making Super Saiyan makes sense, it was also originally white so not coloring it at all was the original plan 😂 I didn’t know about Cell’s spots though, but I’ve drawn cell and so I can see why. They are supposed to be random but they are time consuming none the less 😅
