If you have seen my videos, you may notice, opossums are my favorite animal, they are one of the most misunderstood animals in the world.I try to show how harmless they really are. I understand some of the videos have terrified opossums. I also am uncomfortable with this, however I think when it shows people how gentle they really are, it it worth it. It translates to less opossums being killed for "looking mean" or needlessly trapped because they are scary looking.
Thanks again, and as always...always be kind to pitbulls...and opossums...and bats...and well, everything :)

You're amazing!!! Thank you for your kind heart!
Great video and adorable dog! I'm playing the sound of a growling dog in the attic, and have sprayed lemongrass since bear urine is not very easy to find in the UK!
Love It... and smart!!!
I took your advice and bought some rat traps and rigged them just as you did and placed them up in the attic (until I can get to and seal off the entryway around the metal woodstove stack) and they've triggered 1 trap but it didn't keep it or them from returning. I just need to get up on the outside of the house and seal that entryway. But I like your idea, thanks for sharing it.
GREAT idea! Thanks!

@@DustyShowers most common species are Norway rat, Roof rat and the Wood rat, what about your area.
I've had squirrels chew through aluminum siding on an overhang. I installed new siding and they were right back at it. I took axil grease and spread it around on the overhang. Squirrels simply don't like sitting in axil grease to chew a new entrance.
I truly like your ideas and plz make a video about how to catch a bear first🤝
However....is there anything that makes them avoid your attic. We got rid of a rat that was trying to get in by using a " tortured rat" sound byte. Every time we heard the attempt to scratch through....we blasted it through the speakers....3 days of that....then no more attempts. Today I heard the sound byte from the neighbors house....so in case the critters he was after ran this way...I played mine along with a high frequency combo that can't hurt the human ears but rodents avoid. We need something like that for squirels ...we cut the trees away from the property but they litteraly climb up the brick. Any suggestions?
wow!!! that sounds like a good idea!!!!

You’re a good man.
When people buy Havahart traps, they should use a permanent black marker to write the model number(which is always on the box) somewhere on the trap. Then after you throw out the box and later decide to do a video, you will know the model number of the trap you are demonstrating and you can include that in the video name. I have no idea why Havahart does not stamp every trap with the model number, so people would have this info for later reference. WRZ 2021-11-28 Delaware County, PA
Is the hardware cloth placed in such a way that the mother pushes the hardware cloth out completely when she exits and then you have to re-set it up? Do you have to re-set the traps multiple times? Thanks for sharing your technique. I need to set this up on a vertical hole on the side of a deck roof.
May I suggest an. Easier option, your concept is right on… take a couple of tennis balls, cut a small hole in it, take the wolf urine and soak a piece of cloth with it and stuff it in the hole of the Tennis ball, attach a long string to the tennis ball, throw the tennis balls in the attic, if you have an idea where the squirrel, opossums or raccoons are throw it in that area or just throw a couple in different areas, after they move out seal the hole and remove the tennis balls.
How do you know statistics on relocated squirrels? Maybe they do "survive" and then thrive somewhere else....How can you state stats?
Who doesn't love this guy!? I'm totally trying this. Have you ever tried dog urine or fur?

Relocated squirrels die anyway? Maybe if you release them in the ocean...or Antarctica.
Great idea. I would use this method if I could. Makes sense as I can see the concept of the urine giving scent of a predator around and the traps simulating an attempted attack on the problem animal. However some States like mine won't allow professional's to use repellents without a pesticide licence ( New York) for wildlife control. Predator urine would be considered a repellent in this case. This is not a good option for a licenced N.W.C.O. without a pesticide license in states that require one. Best to check your local laws before attempting. There is a product made that contains male Raccoon scent from its glands. Female Raccoons will relocate babies if a male comes around as the males will kill the young. This product works great , but often times the female returns the next year to try again. Again this is considered a repellent in my state. Same applies. Both are great options for the exterminator who is also a licenced N.W.C.O. in those states.
It’s so refreshing to be amongst people who care about the life of animals. Everyone I talk to wants to get a pellet gun. We have the intellectual capacity to solve problems humanely. I have a major squirrel problem but the thought of killing them is not an option and never will be.

They are tasty too.
I respect the concern for animal life, but those squirrels can cause devastation to people's homes and other parts of their property that can destroy their finances , homes, crops, etc. If they just get "nudged" out, they will continue on to someone else's home and cause further destruction. In the South, they might not be as destructive and repulsive, but up here, in the North, they actually rape each other to breed(not just a friendly game of "Tag, You're It), they chew through people's tents, which makes visitors not want to spend their money here, and they carry massive amounts of body lice, which help transport the deadly diseases they carry, which include, but are not limited to: Giardia Lamblia, Rabies, and even The Bubonic Plague. And THEN, they destroy homes and crops. Cute little fuckers, huh?

Discouraging birds from triggering the Havahart 1083 Squirrel Trap or stealing the Peanut Butter : I cut a wood scrap approx 3/4 " by 1.5 " to the exact width of the trap. (I cut the ends at a slight angle.) I do this so I can jam the wood into the trap in a way that it is just tight enough that it can not easily be removed by an animal prying it. I then screw 3 wood screws completely through the 3/4" width, equidistant across the 7" width of the wood scrap. Then I get 3 16.9 oz Pepsi plastic bottles and cut the end (with the bottle cap) off. (approx 1.25 ") Then I drill a small hole through the center of the 3 bottle caps and attach the caps to the 3 screws in the wood. Them I screw the ends of the Pepsi bottles into their caps that are secured to the wood. Then I place peanut butter inside the 3 plastic caps. and the ends. * * * * Then I take this assembly and place it backwards up against the far end of the trap. * * * * If you do this right, the birds wont be able to access the peanut butter because there is not enough room for their beaks to reach around and then inside the plastic bottle caps. I also cover the entire back of the trap and the back/top portion of the trap with an approx. 7" wide "L" shaped piece of sheet metal, so that the birds can't reach their head through the back and eat the peanut butter from the outside. I drill holes through the sheet metal and use electrical ties to secure it to the trap. The sheet metal on the top portion of the trap prevents the peanut butter from getting wet when it rains hard. Squirrels tend to find food via their sense of smell so they will find the peanut butter in the bottle caps, even when they can not see the PB. I also place a couple of peanuts within their shells inside with the peanut butter to further prevent the birds from getting all the PB. Some day I should probably write a book about trapping grey squirrels. WRZ 2021-11-28
Sorry Humane, I don’t think that trapping a squirrel and releasing them miles away in the country will kill them, on the contrary it may safe another’s life providing food. It’s an adaptation measure ,saving your attic and the bank

@@vivalla2317 Hello, have you had the chance to use the 2 spring koro trap? I hope you had good luck if you did. Please let me know, thanks!
Squirrels are rodents.
Good video here, and it just may work, as it makes sense, that the squirrels will think the "food chain" is not safe, and leave the area. I have trapped, and poisoned about 150 squirrels in my attic. I first starting poisoning them , but they die a slow painful death, and they die in the attic, and their flesh rots and really smells up the house. I then started to trap them live, and then drown them, and it's all over in about 2 minutes, and their dead. Very good way to do this !!! I should mention I would not normally kill any wildlife, but when the squirrels start chewing wires and the lights go out, it's all out war !!! Your method "may work" and may not ??? because once that trap has sprung, I would bet a lot of squirrels will come back again, and try to get that bait ?? or other squirrels will, and they will deem that as " no threat" If it does work, anyone would be foolish not to use that method. NOTE - You also say relocating them will kill them ??? I highly doubt that. Why would you say that ??? there are trees and a food supply, but then again, I guess since you do this all the time, you must have your reasons ? What I know to be true, is if you "live trap" them, and leave them in the trap for 2 days, when you come back, they will be "dead" of fright, or a heart attack--I don't really know why ? but it is a fact.
@gbsk4971
6 жыл бұрын
Why don't you take the live trap and relocate them a couple of miles away. Drowning is a terrible way to die. I've relocated them. You can also put mothballs into their holes and they will not go there any more. Also some essential oils work.
@grantp4022
6 жыл бұрын
I guess I could relocate them, but it takes a lot of time, so I drown them. Unfortunate for the squirrels, but their invading me. If I could trap -say 10 at one time, then I'd relocate them. When I bought this house, it had about 30 big greys living in the attic. ( no joke) NOTE - had a "new problem" lately, with a squirrel building a nest under my car hood. My trap is at another place, so I tried something new, that I did not think would work ??? Read about it online.(it does) I gave it a try and it "definitely does work" and it's simply Irish Spring Soap. ( one bar will do) No more nests, and so far haven't had to trap the squirrel, although it's tempting, and causing other problems. This soap is strong smelling, and the squirrels don't like it. I've also heard that peppermint oil, and mothballs do work as well. ( also amonia) Don't forget though, these smells will get into your house or car as well. On drowning - your right, it's not pleasant, but much less painful than poisoning, which takes about 3 days. Appreciate UR input :)
@DustyShowers

Yes, stress of relocation kills most animals. And sorry you question my methods, I've run a wildlife company for 10 years with nothing but great reviews. You say you have killed 150 squirrels in your attic. You're doing it the hard way. I feed my family as well as 3 other families by solving problems like yours in 3 days and killing no squirrels.
@grantp4022
6 жыл бұрын
Dusty - I appreciate your feedback, and it be nice to believe you could solve a squirrel problem like I had in 3 days ? I do question that, but you do it everyday , and know things I do not. I will say this - when I bought this house there was about 25-30 big grey squirrels living up there. Because it's an old house with many access points they can always get back in -- even chew there way in through a wooden facia or soffit board. I guess maybe they leave scent trails, and other squirrels follow it to gain access ??? After I've killed off these 150 or so squirrels - now about 10 years later, there is no more "grey squirrels -- I only have the odd red squirrel, which I live trap -- then drown them, or their dead in the trap. One thing that "does work" as well -- is Irish Spring soap. I was having a problem at another house under the hood of my car - the squirrel built 4 nests, and I kept removing them, and he kept rebuilding. I read about the Irish Spring and it worked great. If you don't get them out from under your hood-"big trouble" - they chew wires etc. and your car won't work, and cost huge money to repair the damage. I will say there are bite marks on the soap bar -- so either they tried to eat it, or they were trying to move it out. I'm going to put a lot of Irish spring soap bars in my attic. ON Relocating squirrels - I'll take your word for it -- that it stresses them, and could cause them to die. ??? This makes no sense though, it they have food and water , and shelter. You'd have to do a study to find out how true that is. Like mark them with paint, or a monitoring device, to determine if they died. I would bet, they would survive. If left in a barren place like a desert, with little natural habitat and scarce food, then I would agree with you 100 %. You work with animals daily -- so this could well be the case -- good video, and yes, I've done things the "hard way." Worst thing you can do is poison them, you'll have a "nightmare"on your hands, and a very smelly attic.

I guess so, but these smaller cheaper traps they sell at Walmart, Homedepot etc. do not have the power to kill a "big grey". They will kill small red squirrels though. Sometimes it the trap is not tied down, they will drag if off somewhere, and likely escape. In my experience youi'd need a big strong snap trap, made for larger rats etc. to kill a big grey squirrel.
I am not going to "coddle" a limb-rat...they ought to know to stay in the woods.

@@sarajackson7451 They are destructive lil bastards. I hope you get some in your attic or walls and then see how you feel!
We need to stop caring about "humane" pest control. Moving a trapped squirrel to the woods five miles away from the home is also not "humane."
