The first video I've seen about not shopping that says something very useful such as getting involved with the community and not thinking the world revolves around you is a great and new point!

I really struggle with the withdrawals from shopping addiction and no-one gives tips for dealing with this. I ache to shop and its a very uncomfortable feeling.

Hanna I love love love how you got to the core of my shopping problem. I started being a minimalist during my divorce 5 years ago, but I had lost sight of the principles recently. And the oddball tips you gave are what my problem was. I used to love volunteering which is how I coped with loneliness and being broke at the same time. I'm going to try to get back into volunteering. I just subscribed. Thank you!

This video is amazing specially for those of us that know there are emotional reasons for our crazy shopping habits.

Ever since I started permanently working from home I'm amazed how much stuff I no longer need that's only purpose was getting me to and from work. Rain gear, bags, lunch containers, lunch bags to put the containers into, weatherproof laptop bags, cold weather gear, changes of shoes and jackets depending on weather. And also since I'm at home I'm no longer super worried about what people think of me, my wardrobe/makeup/haircut budgets have dropped significantly. I'd say yes, once you stop thinking the world revolves around you and your ego it does change things. I just need to figure out how to harness that knowledge better. I've also start keeping a spreadsheet of every non-essential purchase this year. It's been interesting. The first three months I was like "I've got this." I was determined, I had set my spending parameters and I was nailing it. I was cured! Heh. Well, April and May have been... not so good. I fell back into old habits and stopped tracking things. I just now forced myself to go through all my records and write everything down and update that spreadsheet. It didn't feel good. I wanted to sugar coat it. But doing this I am seeing some patterns of behavior. At least it's giving me insight into what's going on. What's triggering my need to "treat myself" and whether that treat triggered a spending splurge.

Ya I definitely used to have more stuff when I worked in an office setting. I totally agree with you there! Thanks for your honest comment about your spending and tracking. It definitely is one thing to hear some advice in a KZread video and a WHOLE other thing to create lasting habits in one's own daily life! I completely understand and respect that. I personally think you are doing incredibly though (even if you had some slip ups in April/May) because knowing what your patterns are is half the battle. That alone is such an absolute win for you over these pas few months! So keep it up and keep discovering more about what really goes on behind the scenes and triggers certain spending, etc! :)

What has helped me is not purging. I try to use what I have and shop my closet. Whenever I have tried to go minimalist I end up filling the void again. Closet bulimia ain't pretty. I am focusing on enjoying my stuff and finding other things to do besides shop.

You probably won’t see this but your channel popped up in my newsfeed. This is the third video I’ve watched. I just wanted to say that for someone so young you are very common-sense intelligent! I hope that makes sense. Your advice in this video is wise beyond your years! Excellent video! I’m old enough to be your mother btw!😂

Of course I will see this! I respond to the vast majority of my comments. :) You are so very kind! I feel like I've grown up 15 years in 5. I made plenty of mistakes in my teens and early 20s and am now trying to ground myself and figure out what I really want from life (and more importantly, what I want to give in this life). Thanks for your kind comment; they always go a long way! :)

I unsubscribe to sites. They disappear for a while and then suddenly pop back on and then I am back to zero, having to re-unsubscribe!?!

That's funny, the same thing just happened to me with a brand! It can happen. I either unsubscribe again or I contact someone at the company to ensure I'm off the mailing list. Also, with some companies, you have to dig a little deeper to ensure you're taken off ALL emails (not just marketing or promotion) as they sometimes default to that. Also, effects usually take a few days to kick in (usually like 3-5 business days) so wait out if you are still getting a few emails trickle in from a company!

YES! I’ve had this happen too. So I just quickly swipe delete and don’t even open them. It helps a bit…but it’s annoying. I’ve also worked on getting ads off of Facebook, but clicking the ‘don’t show me this again’ button. I’m *really* working on improving the shopping problem. I’m cheering myself for today as I’d gotten in the habit of having Starbucks on Saturdays…and ordered in…but instead I cooked my own food and made my own fun drink. Maybe not quite hitting the same spot as a Starbucks veggie sandwich and caramel macchiato, but pretty good nonetheless, and the savings feel even better…😊

Nice tips Hanna! I find that limiting my visits to target or the mall helps a lot to avoid impulse shopping. Since the year started and we are doing the low buy year I have already change quite a bit my mentality around shopping. As you mention it is hard work to brake this habit but I am positive that after this year I will be a whole new person when it comes to shopping 🥰🥰🥰

You totally will be a brand new person! Every time you spend money you will ask yourself if it's worth it and why you're purchasing. You've got this! Keep me updated as you go along with your low buy. :)
