After going through the contents, I can say it actually was worth the expense after all. 3 cuts if the film including the DigiBeta laserdisc master (PCM would have been nicer), plus a new edit of the Demme extended cut with alternate footage for the excised tracks looks and sounds very nice. I decided to upscale and reframe the Digibeta version to look theatrical since it was full-frame.

Repeated viewings/ listening infinite, so it will pay for itself after 3 views? wasn’t going to get it but it’s a must for any concert music fan especially a fan of The Heads. My bro in law was over and he order a copy after the first 3 songs. Great review Jeff Thanks

Lol thought this was too expensive so I ordered the 2cd and blu ray disk editon from the talking heads site and it ended up being the same if not more expensive lol

I just wanted to start off by saying, "Hey, old guy here!" But sometimes, I have to remind many collectors that, when they say something's too expensive, you have to learn how much it once was. When I started collecting VHS in 1983, new movies were between $80.00 and $100.00 apiece. The "sell-through" prices really didn't hit until the release of Beverly Hills Cop, and even then, they were just on hit films. It took years for the $19.99 and $24.99 price point to become standard.

Got my copy a couple weeks ago--it's really beautifully done, in terms of packaging, and the 4K restoration is mindblowing, but I was slightly disappointed that a couple of special features from previous releases were not included (the Byrne-interviewing-himself thing, which is hilarious, and the full audio commentary with the whole band, I think, were the two most conspicuous absences). When you pay $65 for the big box, you want everything to be included in it.

It's Jonathan DEM-ee. I'm not a huge Talking Heads fan, but this is one of the best concerts ever committed to film. High energy performance throughout. I will definitely be getting this disk.

So stoked you got a copy to do a review Jeff! Saw this in theaters last year and was blown away by it. A24s releases are truly works of art and about as “collectors edition” as you can get

I have collected a lot of concert DVDs and Blu-Rays. Two Blu-Rays have an Atmos track on them. This concert I do own the DVD so as far as the concert I knew what I was getting. It was a no brainer to order this disk. What an experience for any music lover. I played it in Atmos in 4K and it’s worth every penny. Just a good old time full of energy what more can I say. Buy it you’ll never regret it. We need more like this. 👍😉🙂

The Atmos track was good but personally I prefer the DTS-HD track from the Palm Pictures BR. The new Atmos track is virtually missing certain instruments/vocals at various parts where as the DTS-HD track sounds far more balanced throughout and you can hear every instrument more clearly. If you've never heard the DTS-HD track from the Palm Pictures Bluray then this Atmos track will sound incredible. However if you are "upgrading" from the BR you may be disappointed in the audio. The video on the other hand is fantastic and a big upgrade.

I hope there's a standard release at some point. I enjoy this film and I do like Talking Heads, but not to such an extent that I want to spend a huge amount to get a deluxe edition shipped to Canada. It's good to know this is a solid transfer in the event a standard edition does get released. 👍

I saw it in Theaters two months ago and it blew me away. It was such much fun and the music in Atmos is indeed incredible. I think we gotta get an extra 4K release here in Germany. I would love to have the A24, but to Import is a bit to expensive. The A24 Edition does look beautiful. Their Art Department is off the charts!

Its expensive, but im so glad I pre ordered this. Watched it night one having never seen this concert, and I LOVED it. Wish there were more concert films in 4k, but overall, I'd have to say this has skyrocketed to one of my favorites.

I would easily pay 30 for the disk, I mean I saw the theatre release opening night. But that is a cartoonish price, like I could just go to a concert for that price.

I love the Talking Heads and this film. So glad you enjoyed it, Jeff! I have the older Blu-ray and haven't pulled the trigger on this 4K version yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Definitely go give a listen to the Remain in Light album next.

I was lucky enough to see it for (my first time) in IMAX this year! The sound mix in theatre was amazing. Felt like I was actually in the audience.

It's coming to Germany as Blu-Ray with Atmos-sound. So I'm gonna buy the German Version because I couldn't justify the shipping cost.

Great review of a great concert event. I’ve seen it three times in theaters. I do have a question however. My 4K set up only has 5.1 stereo surround. There is no way physically I can install Dolby Atmos. How would you suggest I adjust my Oppo 4K player? Not sure I can down mix Atmos.

It should just downmix it automatically. Every atmos track has a Dolby trueHD source

Jeff, I did see his directors cut years ago at the market The in Pike Place market on it first run with director set up concert audio it was cold blister insane loudness concert audio crazy had all the scenes of the directors cut of the directors ! it was in the Seattle Washington

It's a bit Pricey, I have to admit! I ordered it and because im in Canada, it cost me 113$. But Im not complaining, Talking Heads is my favourite band of all time and this movie is my second favourite movie of all time so yeah its worth it!

Don't feel bad Jeff. Grace Randolph said "tear-rot" when she tried to pronounce "tarot"😅 so naturally I corrected her. Sorry I took some English and film classes in college so I'm a stickler for pronunciation of film personalities. But you couldn't ask me to pronounce any French names.

Can you please do 4k blu ray review concert reviews of the new Motley Crue The End concert video and the Inxs Live Baby Live concert 4k blu ray?

You guys think in this case there is a big difference between the 4K and the bluray version?

I hate to say it but the only thing that's putting me off from this is that packaging, specifically its size. That just won't fit on my shelf, unless I lay it down on top of a section on it. Is that too small of a reason to avoid it? Maybe I'll just stream it first since I haven't seen it. It does seem like a really awesome release but the fact that I can't stick it where it belongs alphabetically with my other Blu-rays bothers me a lot.

I caught them in ‘82 and saw this movie in theaters when it first came out. I’d love to get that set but it’s too rich for my blood.

My 17 yr old grandson love Talking Heads. His dad, my son, got him this just last week. He was over and put it on and it was quite enjoyable. Byrne is quite the showman and puts all his energy into each number. A very good buy for anybody.
