Just so you know its their consciousness traveling. Not their bodies. Consciousness is how you navigate the lifestream and worlds.

2:04:50 - It's indeed her theme in minor. Her theme is normally in F major, this one is F minor. They also played this version in Remake when you return to Sector 7 after the plate falls. They do a minor version of Aerith's theme in Remake as well while you are talking to Tseng after saving Marlene in Seventh Heaven, as well as in the graveyard after the Eligor fight.

I don't think Cloud had to give it to Sephiroth, just my theory of course, but I think that scene was just to show us how under Sephiroth's control Cloud is and that Sephiroth was treating him like a dog.

I think Barret just underestimated the severity of Cloud's mental breakdown

Love the trials so much. They really put us and the team through the ringer but what it makes me think of is just how strong Cloud has been up till now. All those trials are basically a taste of what Cloud has been going through from the beginning.

In chapter 11, when you meet Vincent, Cait Sith says "I know your story. Vincent Valentine, former Turk. I stumbled upon your file in the company's database". So yes, he is revealed to be a former turk :)

I love how they portrait the slow decline of Cloud's psyche. The speed stat only changes the ATB build up, doesn't change her movements. Yeah, Ray of Judgement cost 2 ATB slots in Remake, but I think they nerfed it a bit. 47:20 In Nibelheim Sephiroth also says something like "And there is another on that stands in our way" when Cloud comes into the room with Jenova. 51:40 You question physics in a temple where there are floating buildings and gravitation that let's you walk on the walls and ceilings? 😂 55:15 Oh no! Aerith should've tried turning them! 01:16:25 Yeah, Rude doesn't do his geab attacks anymore. 01:28:00 À tes souhaits! It didn't really feel too long for me. They switched it up often enough to to not make it tedious (gravity change, lifestream vessels, switching between parties,...). Also story-wise it was interesting, with Aerith learning how to commune with/manipulate the lifestream, seeing her getting exhausted by it and Cloud who is further losing it. But I guess that is very subjective, if someone feels like something goes on for too long or not. I can see people agreeing with you. That was a great fight against Elena and Tseng! Yeah, Elena is a bit Yuffie and a bit Reno. We know already that Vincent was a Turk. Cait said that when they met him, he went through his file and saw that Vincent is an Ex-Turk. 02:02:35 Even your controller knows that this is inevitable. 😂 02:07:50 Or Abby's nightmares where she runs down the hallway in the hospital. 01:33:25 I love that! I always wondered why Cloud just looked at his hand after Jessie died. I thought that he maybe was just desperate about him not being able to save her, but it's actually confusion why he doesn't feel the same pain Tifa does. It's so good! Breach will get down the other shields like barrier and manashield of enemies. You can feel bad for Cait, he knew that going into the temple was dangerous, he told Cloud that it isn't a good idea. He stole the key to make Shinra go there instead of them and to protect Cloud and the others. Barret threw it away, because he belived Aerith saying it's a fake. He just wanted Cloud to snap out of it. Only one more episode! The end (of the worls) is so close! 😭 Amazing episode as always! Hope you're having a wonderful rest of your weekend, Whimsy!

Who’s to say cloud didn’t feel similar emotions to Riga’s reaction to Jessie? We have to remember a few things: 1)cloud has only known Jessie for what a day? Two? 2)cloud’s whole psyche (no spoilers) is to be this tough gritty soldier who soooo cool. And this game indicates that he really does try to not think about uncomfortable moments. Cloud pushes his emotions down so when he is confronted by a friend he really did care for DYING in his arms, he does care it a jsut too much right now. There’s no way one way to mourn. And cloud does show discomfort, he tried to tell Jessie “you still owe me a pizza.” He does try to focus to focus on anything but the death. He does try to confront tifa. This ain’t him ACTING. It’s a young man trying to cope and not knowing how to react. 3)we see that cloud MISSES Jessie. When you go see her photo in rebirth to no matter whose your date, Cloud shows sadness and fondness. Calling her a friend and softy saying “you still owe me.”

@@bradhorowitz2765 Because Sephiroth knows how to get to him. Cloud's reaction to being told that he's hollow and doesn't know why he can't show emotional reactions hits him. He IS confused why he isn't showing more of a reaction. Wouldn't make sense for Sephiroth to even mention it if that wasn't the case. Also, we, as players, know Jessie just as long as Cloud and we're shedding tears as well. No need to know someone for months or years to feel for them if they die.

@@GamePaddyPat Cloud clenching his fist when Jessie died, is him reminding himself of his failures subconsciously and since Tifa is crying, it's like him seeing her getting hurt again over another death. It's just his trauma of not being able to protect his loved ones catching up to him, because now he's seeing Tifa mourning again another person. He also clenches his fist when he remembers of the promise he made with Tifa. Cloud's character and his psyche is him trying to "cope with failure".

@@laurajanco2i Yup, that's what you're supposed to think in Remake.

It's kind of a basic rule of thumb that game time is a lot faster than real life time. While it may only take us a half hr to get through a few rooms, in game time several hours pass. So when the game shifted perspective to Aeriths party in the temple, the narrative is just letting us know that several hrs had passed since the group first split up and reunited.

I've been watching this and Remake's playthru alongside the MGS uploads and since I don't have a ps5 to play this one game it's my first experience too. This episode had me crying so much. the og FF7 holds a very special place in my heart since I remember my grandma buying it for me back when I was little. and an original copy at that, most ps1 games in my country were pirated copies back then. This was my first real copy of a ps1 game. Many times we went together to the store and she got me so mamy wonderful games I treasure today. She passed away recently and I miss her very much... So many memories of love coming back. The incredible music also left a huge impression on me and they did a wonderful job with it in these remakes. Thank you for sharing your playthru with us ❤

Oh my goodness, yeah. Cloud's personality transformation is so horrifying in this part. I love it in the way that it disgusts me and I appreciate how well it disgusts me. Not just his increased aggression or lessening care but towards the end just the way he becomes so pitiful and pathetic in his desperation to obey Sephiroth. That's not our boy! It's understandable to excuse his actions as "not Cloud" because the Cloud we know would never dismiss his friends that way, isn't that bloodthirsty and of course would never serve Sephiroth like that. You can totally see Sephiroth just getting his kicks out of unmaking the hero we've been bonding with and who's been bonding with everyone else and it feels like that willful perversion of Cloud's identity is a more evil thing to see from him than straight up murder. It's not something that wasn't fore shadowed either, so it hurts to watch what Cloud and the others have been getting more and more afraid of happen before their eyes on a bigger scale.

You said it so well. I honestly had to pause many times when Cloud started to act unhinged because I was getting a mixed feeling of creepiness and disgust towards how helpless he feels under Sephiroth's control. Sephiroth is basically like an abuser and I'd even dare say a predator? It's disgusting in so many ways I can't describe, but it's done so well, because I really didn't want to keep watching and at the same time I was too concentrated to look away.

Yeah, changing tonality from major to minor and vice versa is something they do a lot in this soundtrack. Like, there even was a major triumphant version of Sephiroth's theme during the Nibelheim flashback. And both Tifa and Aerith had straight-up minor versions of their themes. Fun fact, even though originally both are in a major tonality, Tifa's theme uses borrowed minor IV chord (F to Bbm), and Aerith's theme uses borrowed minor V chord (D to Am)

What a great video! The trial section is so heartbreaking. Video games are art. The game forcing you to walk around and hopelessly ask for help.. omg.

The “several hours” is as our characters are seeing it, not us as the player. As far as the physics, we see that normal physics are all jacked up as we enter the temple. The Lifestream is coursing through the temple and seems to be working with Aerith to take her where she needs to go. I’ve always thought that’s why those blocks continue to land perfectly where we need them to. Just my own theory. Haha

The trials is very hard to watch, I was sobbing when I played it myself and I was sobbing watching your playthrough 😭😭 It is difficult seeing Cloud bending to Sephiroth's wishes like this. That laughter and the way he said "Aerith" was very unsettling. I don't know if Sephiroth needed Cloud to do something with the black materia or if he just wanted to test Cloud, see how much of a puppet he has become. Now I'm looking forward to the next and last episode, and also to your Sephiroth cosplay! 😊

The version of Tifa's theme, "Hole in the Sky" is the one used here in her memory. It was the same used when they revisited the sector seven in remake and were walking through the rubble. Absolutely gutting to hear it play here 😭 The whole sequence of having to go through everyone's trauma, but without the usual play through mechanic of trying to fight back against the specter of whats haunting them or find some kind of resolution to what was hurting them was TOUGH. You just had to live through it like actual nightmares. I was a mess by the end 😭😭😭

Aerith means that while forces may 'write' the future, there is the ability to take action that resists it, even if 'the future' is determined in some form. Its the thinking of old myths where destiny was inevitable though prophecy (reading the future), but the prophecy either wouldn't know every detail, or fateweavers could only predict or create the future to a limited extent. That is, you're not in a perfect AI-driven simulation that knows and creates every outcome ever like its the Architect from The Matrix (but even that had a resistance with our Neo), you're in a frequently growing and shifting reality of probabilities and outcomes. Aerith 'knows' the Meteor is 'coming', as she has known many things (especially in Remake), but she prefers the hope to believe something can be done about it, and she may have enough knowledge (whether innately in Remake or intuitively in Rebirth) to have confidence it is possible to create a better future. Just the fact alone that how reality works in FFVIIR is that 'Whispers' must correct fate's course, and that they seem to be imperfect agents, would indicate that at least something can slip through the cracks, or as the end of Remake tried to show, perhaps a whole other world can be made.

Exciting and great episode. I am glad you kept iit as one VOD.

Now that you've seen the Temple, in the universe of VII Loveless is based on a book of poems that is debated to be either made up or based on old myths. In the Temple climax, imagery from Loveless appears: the angel, some of the attacking humans look like Cloud's character (the Prisoner) and the other two he's teamed with, etc. Also the clock imagery, as you noted, reoccurs. I can also add to the talk of the Shadowqueen/Jenova that imagery of both her and the Green Witch appear in the big chamber where the Jenova projection appears in the center (it's easier to make them out during the escape because they're red.) So with this new information, it's possible that the Shadowblood Queen is part of what turned the humans against the Cetra. The information we have seems to imply the Queen was a Cetra (when possessed Regina talks to Cloud to she refers to humans as if they're separate from what she was and that the Witch was also not a human). So Jenova took on the Queen's form in the past, which is why she 'suddenly" turned cruel overnight and started launching attacks against everyone and a war of conquest (presumably against humans only?). That would definitely turn a lot of people against the Cetra even if one helped them.

I'm pretty sure the clock imagery is a callback to the OG Temple of Ancients. There was a room that was a giant clock, with a "Guardian of Time" to determine which door you would exit from. The developers just couldn't think of a way to incorporate that into a modern version, so they settled for a lazy "meanwhile, elsewhere" gimmick. Solid hypothesis otherwise, especially when you take into account the repeated use of puppetry imagery. Both Varvados and the Shadowblood Queen call Cloud/Alphreid a puppet, which makes me think that Loveless was inspired by Jenova.

I don't know how this version of the game ends, so you stopped at the perfect place for a cliffhanger!!! Can't wait for the next episode!

i feel like the several hours prior thing is just how much time the party was exploring the temple, like obviously wont take several hours in game or that wouldnt be fun.

And I told you wait until Rebirth’s end to read it. It was because there was the scene of Aerith’s mother death described exactly like in the game. Every time I hear the arrangements of "The Price Of Freedom" I have myself a little emotional breakdown. Every. Single. Time. 😢😢😢

Regarding the “physics”… the orbs in those blocks light up in contact with Lifestream so I think it’s supposed to be reacting with it/altering their gravity. it’s okay that you didn’t figure out the solution right away, don’t need to get defensive and blame the game logic lol… have noticed you tend to do this if you struggle with the game (even though that is super rare). 😅

Oh yeah I do get impatient and blame the games sometimes for sure 🤣 BUT I also believe I'm not completely unfounded. Knock down debris? Really? And the 'debris' magically gets exactly at the right places. It's a bit ridiculous imo, especially considering it's a mechanic we've NEVER seen, in all two games, and they're introducing it at the END of Rebirth. It's.... definitely a choice lmao

Barret did 'fetch' because the materia 'was a fake' (though Sephiroth appeared to do something to it) and was dismissive of Cloud's attention to it.

I feel like Yuffie’s trial, while the player can connect with it because of Intermission, was also a missed opportunity to tease more of her past/what’s coming up. It was still good, but I just personally feel like it could have done more as it did for the others and add some more depth to her character, while still feeling relatable to all players. As for the plates, you’re in Sector 4 station, so only 3, 4, and 5 are technically visible in game. I’m assuming you’ve completed the game now since you posted your schedule, but if you’re still in the process of it, once you do complete it I recommend rewatching Loveless and then rewatching these scenes and parts of the ending. Cody did a great job with this chapter for Cloud. The Aladdin reference is pretty on point as far as the meaning of the fortress goes, nice one! As for Cait Sith his appearance here saving everyone feels much better than in the OG. An improvement, imo. Yeah, the Barrett jump is a little unbelievable lol. As for why Sephiroth wants Cloud to bring the Black Materia to him, there’s a few reasons for that. However, they’ll be explained in Part 3. Also, think about what the Cetra say the Black Materia was made from and think about the types of feelings Sephiroth wants Cloud to experience. Can’t wait to see your reaction and cosplay to the final chapter!

Several hours earlier? I guess the temple is made of "wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff" lol I wouldn't be shedding any tears for Tseng or any of the Turks either. They picked the wrong side ya know? So, one little detail in Aerith's house that's very easy to overlook, it's kinda hard to see outside of Photo Mode, but all the clocks in Aerith's place have no hands. Remember how Biggs and Zack said their "internal clocks" were "busted?" Creepy, no?

We've had hints and allusions since Remake, but here we finally start to get a glimpse of what Aerith is actually capable of. And we got to talk about how brave she is. She actually rushes SEPHIROTH. And when Cloud is chasing her, even though she's clearly terrified, she never loses her head, doesn't panic once. When she does surrender the Black Materia, it's in the hopes that she can help Cloud this way. Also, I have to say Elmyra Gainsborough is the true unsung hero of Final Fantasy VII.

Aerith is more than meets the eye. This has been obvious from the beginning. Now we are starting to explore her true nature.

Barret overpowering Rude in a game of bloody knuckles, when Rude was able to, at least at first, match Dio in a contest of strength, is so satisfying.

So I'm assuming you already filmed Chapter 14, because no live stream? Edit: nvm, I just read the community post. Looking forward to seeing your cosplay!

Yeah this part is genuinely hard for me to watch everytime cuz I know i'm gonna just end up balling my eyes out.

The trials were really hard to digest. Especially Aerith's and Nanaki's were a punch in the gut. The ending is near tho. Can't wait to see your thoughts on it. Btw. did you ever watch the movie "Inception" with Leonardo Di Caprio? You might find some interesting parallels to this story.

It's unreal how you pick up on everything and can follow the story and writers intent so well throughout the whole playthrough! Yeah, idk how i feel about Aerith's longest arc in the game revolving around her working through her boy feelings but at least it's resolved by the end, and i like how they were brave enough to make it kinda messy for her and the player to get through. One thing you gotta know about Zack Fair. He's the MVP. #1. Whether you like him or don't like him it don't matter cuz he's #1. He will always be at the top. He is HIM. Homie giving Aerith space to work things out after his long absence, he'll be there for her when she's ready.

Damn did she just did the several hours mission in minutes?? Lol ive never seen anyone did this lol

Cait Sith's thick thighs saved lives.

(OG spoilers kind of, it’s about how a scene we’ve already seen is different in Rebirth) The OG version of the end of Chapter 13 is quite a bit different (and I’m not talking about the whispers) In the OG after Cloud gives Sephiroth the Black Materia and Sephiroth leaves after giving a trade mark monologue Cloud is still acting crazy and saying stuff like “I gave him the black materia. Why did I do that” Aerith is with him and tries to calm him down by saying it’s not his fault and he didn’t do anything wrong but in his messed up mental state he shoves Aerith to the ground and beats her up with his bare hands. It’s a tough scene to watch. That was the biggest thing I was curious about going into Rebirth, would they adapt that scene. But they cut it completely which I understand, on its own it mostly comes across as shock value and it makes the team’s already questionable decision to keep trusting Cloud even harder to justify. But it does also have a lot of impact when taken into consideration with later scenes.

Spoiler alert for Whimsy I think that scene was represented by the one in Gongaga with Tifa, in a way to make sense of the later scenes at the Norther Crater and during the Lifestream Sequence in pt3. I think it's kinda cool how newbies will still be able to play OG and be surprised by a lot of stuff that in Rebirth is slightly altered or changed, despite everything has the same outcome.

This whole alternate timeline thing is not in the original at all- nor the whispers or fate… so I guess we all might get some definitive answers next ep…

Out of the playthroughs I watched only about 10% of them actually went around with Aerith to talk to the party members it's kinda crazy how it's set up thinking that there's nothing to do when there are actually some interesting dialogue to be had.

3:36:06 this is just my pov regarding that topic but i personally think aerith's date pretty much explains her feelings regarding zack and cloud. at first she noticed their similarities and that obviously attracted her to cloud but she quickly realized that they're very different and yet despite that she now wants to be with cloud. plus her saying "i'm trying so hard to find you" is basically her saying that she is very aware that cloud is not being 100% himself and she is actively trying to find the "real" cloud, that's the cloud she wants to get to know.

Aerith’s date scene is also the only gold saucer date that was not changed from the original. I find that significant as well. :)

Yeah it’s why the Devs kept her GS date the same as the original as the conversation is pretty story relevant, it explains that it was initially the similarities in Zack that made her interested but she soon grew to like him for him, I can see why people may think different if you got a different date though and missed the dialogue , it also shows she aware he is not himself and wants to help find the real him

Yes that's why they didn't change this date from the OG. It's too important. But they put a lot of non verbal information there also. You can clearly see at the beginning of the date how much Cloud is bothered with her feelings towards Zack. He even refuses to sit beside her. That changes after she made clear, that she is aware of his Zack persona but that she wants to be with him. From there he softens up and when she hugs his arm, he begins to give in to the moment. The direction here is peak. Also the very gentle way he takes her hand and interlocks fingers is very significant. We don't see this gentle side of Cloud a lot in the games.

There were a few streamers that got upset at Marlene for telling Zack she had feelings for Cloud. One even cussed her out 😅 It had been awhile since she last saw Zack. It’s completely fine to move on eventually. Zack was obviously heartbroken but was able to accept it and still wanted to help Aerith and Cloud.

Red flags from those ppl for getting mad tbh

Cloud can imitate Zack's behaviour but not his feelings, just saying aerith likes cloud because of zack basically undermines their entire relationship and feels like a insult to all the moments they had in the entire 2 games.We see Cloud imitating some of Zack's mannerisms from time to time but the most obvious one is Cloud's running animation is exactly the same as the Zack.

Since Marlene was able to absorb some memories and knowledge from Aerith in Remake, I think it's safe to say that Aerith likes Cloud for him otherwise Marlene wouldnt say that.

Look at the Final Fantasy VII logo.

Aerith's date is the only date that stays true to the OG one bc it's important for the plot and actually gets call backs. Other dates were changed.

Yeah jrpg usually have that weird final dungeon goes on and on for no reason. Like usual dungeon is 1 hour while last dungeon is 3 hours

The turks are still alive because our party chooses to and I don't really like that. They have so much blood on their hands but we still have to show mercy? Make it make sense.

Just killing people in stories when you can because them =bad is not good or interesting story telling, and this is based off a story that already exists so we have known the fates of these characters for almost 30 years.

3:35:30 My personal theory about the rainbow: Every choice has an alternative. Every alternative creates a new world. They broke fate and basically created a multiverse. The rainbow is kind of a metaphor. Like putting light through a prism, that world, or timeline, just split in two. I don't really know. The whole "multiverse" thing is new to the Remake series. Not really sure where they're going with it unless it's all to bring Zack into part 3. Because Zack is not only yanked out of his world and placed in an alternative world, but he's pulled out of his time as well.

Wow i just realized only Tifa and Aerith were not blocked no wonder no one else came to stop Cloud

You know Tifa and cloud no are close friends when they are child? Tifa have they group and Cloud has a outcast whit other kids.

Afetr all this time you still thinks Aerith like cloud because Zack? Really? You see the Date too.. you hatee Aerith. D ont worry last chapter put all Haters in there' place.

I certainly don't hate Aerith. If you really believe that, I encourage you to rewatch my entire Remake and Rebirth playthroughs. And yes, I still have questions and concerns, which I think I have expressed many times in many different ways with a LOT of nuance, but you latch on to the fact that I have questions to begin with. What you're seeing here is a BLIND FIRST PLAYTHROUGH. It's a pure, unadulterated experience of these games with no prior knowledge. I have not played the original FF7. This is my experience based on the storytelling that is offered by the devs RIGHT NOW, without having any meta knowledge of what happens later. It's a developing story and I might completely change my mind by the end of Part 3. If you can't handle someone going through these games with a fresh eye and who talks with honesty and ask questions, then why are you even here? Go watch someone who has played the original and knows everything already instead.

No dude she doesn't hate Aerith, I can certify that. She just came to different conclusions. Just let her play the game the way she wants. This lore gives you so much room for interpretations that we are not even in the realms of right and wrong yet. Let her have fun and discover the different facettes of this story. If she prefers Tifa over Aerith in the process, so be it. And I say all this as a passionate Aerith fanboy.

​donat care Tifa. Theproblem is Zack and fan service. You can go to special setings in the Game and eliminate all Zack escenes because he have zero relevance in the Game is all fan service. Cloud no have any memòria of Zack in his head. I hate Zack in rebirth.

@@GeronimaCerroCaldera Them bringing back Zack is pure fanservice, that's true. Hamaguchi already admitted that in an interview prior to Rebirth. No wonder this is causing a lot of confusion. Can't wait to see how they are going to resove this mess. Peronally I love Zack and I also have platinum in Crisis Core, but I don't really understand his additional plot part in the Remakes. In the original he just wasn't there. Anyway my point is, please don't harass Whimsy, let her enjoy the game the way she wants. She doesn't hate Aerith at all, be sure of that.
