Will you be thinking about a Donaldson Filter Solution for your 200? Or the upcoming Hilux and 70 series?

Not at the price Donaldson are asking for the initial purchase price & then the cost of replacement filters, just not worth it to fix a problem that doesn't exist on my vehicle. I can do many, many, many years of standard airfilter replacement for the initial purchase price of the Donaldson kit & when you work out the cost ratio between the options over time it doesn't look good. I don't have any dusting issues with my stock VDJ79R airbox, you just have to know how to fit the lid properly when changing the filter which is not hard. Ryco also offer the Fireguardian air filter element for the stock airfilter box which I run during bushfire season.

@@dustyfarmer interesting, nothing up the inlet pipe at all? The 70 series seems to be almost as bad as the 200 with dusting. You're right that the Donaldson will set you back around 1k + fitting. Though a replacement long motor will set a person back 30k+. The Donaldson element is at least 3 times the cost of a standard genuine element, though the service interval is only determined by the amount of restriction once it fills up, it should be around 3 times as long. So other than the initial purchase price, ongoing maintenance costs are about the same.

@@LockyourHubs4WDing I check the intake tract well beyond the MAF & the airbox upper lid does have a smear of rubber grease on the sealing area which also has one of those Terrain Tamer stainless steel seal extender kits fitted to the upper lid & no dust or fine particles leaking past the filter seal & the tract is pretty much clean too, the turbo vanes are good too so it hasn't been eating dust at any time in the past. I do run a Donaldson cyclonic pre filter which picks up alot before it makes its way down to the air filter element. I do altleast 20 K's of dirt road & 150 K's of sealed road driving everyday.

@@dustyfarmer the Rayco filter I purchased I through strait into the bin because the rubber seal were not high enough and insufficient compression by the lid while the clamps was closed. Original Toyo filter rubber seal new version was higher and clamping force Ok. Who cannot fit the lid properly without moving the seal from filter must learn the basics. Sure a bit Vaseline makes the cover fitting over the seal more easy You see there are many different experience Cheers

Put one on a few months ago and drove it Melbourne to Cape York (With your buddy from Ed's 4WD) and then on to Darwin on the dustiest roads around. Very happy with the performance. Like the testing video to show before and after, I wasn't sure if I was imagining the performance increase of not but 6% is nothing to sneeze at.

Need to check if the Donaldson filters as efficiently tho. Less restriction could be a function of how many microns it filters down to and how much dirt it captures. Not a valid comparison in my view

Just a pity it was really 10 years too late to the party - better late than never and it seems Toyota still hasn't acknowledged the issue as the 300 is fitted with a very similar intake box and flat panel filter. Great video as always!

100% agree, considering the 200 is an off-roader, the stock filter isn't "fit for purpose". I understand the 70, Hilux and 300 are next, and no doubt they'll sell like hotcakes as well. Just a shame Toyota, even after the numerous issues with the 200, basically fitted the same arrangement in the 300.

Absolutely. Decades of success with the drum style filtration systems in 40, 60, 80 and 100 series. All that $ to R&D for these later models vehicles and some bean counter creates a major brand integrity issue.
