Great video but just a correction on the watch section, a steel bracelet does not make a diver's watch, as there are plenty of other styles of watches with steel bracelet, and original divers actually often have a rubber or nylon strap. What makes a diver's watch is the high water resistance, luminous markers and hands and a timing rotating bezel.

Thanks Pedro, I’ve been learning a lot more about watches since I made this video and you are indeed correct. I suppose the watches I showed would be considered either field watches or dress watches?

@@Gent.Z 7:03 Field crossing into Dress, better described as a Sport watch. 7:16 Dress Watch (frankly a bit too thick IMO, wish seiko would make a mechanical version of the Presage line and cut a couple mm off the case height). There's a lot of crossover these days in what can be considered a Dress Watch as the dress code has been relaxed. For a good example of a Dive Watch look at the Seiko SKX007 or the Rolex Submariner (or the Tudor Pelagos 39, if you're looking for a more tool-y looking luxury dive watch).

Informative video. I have a passing interest in style and fashion but to me the most important attribute of a man is manners and how he dresses is somewhat secondary. As an example a man who dresses well but is rude and lacks respect for others I do not like.

Great video. Its interesting how often were told "looks dont matter" as children, but as soon as we are in adulthood, we immediately see how beneficial it is to maintain an image. Mem who are well groomed, wearing the right clothes, and are in shape have so many social advatages. Its a silly game, but it would be sillier not to partake

I think most parents want to teach their kids to look "into the person" and not the clothes to avoid becoming superficial. Generally that's a positive thing. At a certain age however I think it's a good advice to teach kids oder teens to dress properly, preventing them from learning it "the hard way".

It's not silly, how you care for yourself and the effort you put in give people information about the likelihood that you will make the same efforts in your work and put the same care into your relationships. It's an outer expression of your inner character. Although it's not always accurate it's the first thing people have to go off of when they don't have any other information about you yet.

@@Gent.ZAs an older male myself, I still prefer to wear decent jeans, decent t-shirts (in warm weather) and other comfortable clothes regardless of my age in general casual places where others including women are dressed the same. I’m aware of the need to dress modestly in certain finer places. However, there needs to be a happy medium as opposed to anything being forced upon us like a dictatorship which would be confining and restrictive

What I learned from this video? Everything you say in this video and your other videos about manners, behavior, clothing, appearance and inner attitude (character) is correct. Normally this should be conveyed to a young person through their parents' home, relatives, good friends of the parents, kindergarten, schools, dance schools and sports clubs, but unfortunately this is no longer the case in many cases today. It's hard and uncomfortable to say no in education and to uphold your own values. I only learned many of these characteristics when I was in my mid-twenties and realized that I wasn't getting anywhere socially. 35 years later I have to realize that, on the one hand, good manners and honest behavior have helped me a lot in my life, but on the other hand, the level has fallen sharply today. The good thing about it is what used to be taken for granted: young people with good manners and determination immediately stand out as positive ones in the gray crowd and are sought after by all employers and showered with good work. On the one hand, it is so easy to ask the old and successful what they value in young people and on the other hand, the introduction of smartphones has made young people seem to have forgotten how to communicate with respect. Valuable knowledge has never been as easily accessible as it is today! A lack of good manners automatically closes doors for one's own future, and young people don't even know that these doors even exist.

Great video! Your advice is very much needed in today’s world. An example: I remember taking planes in the 1950s and early 1960s. Everyone was well-dressed in business or business casual style, everyone acted with consideration and dignity, there were no “incidents”, and a flight was something pleasurable. Comparing the deportment of people back then with that of people today demonstrates the need for teachings such as yours. Keep up the good work!

I would add joggers to paints a gentleman should not wear. I would also add anything polyester. The only fabric acceptable for gentleman are wool, cotton, cashmere, linen and silk. I agree as to leather shoes. I love my Belgium loafer. I have a Mark Cross briefcase I purchased secondhand. I refinished it and it looks great, more elegant than a backpack. I would add Bulova to your watch options. They are not expensive and that what Frank wore and you can’t be cooler than Frank. My favorite Frank Sinatra song is “My Way” which reflect my life and why I have the Frank Sinatra “My Way” watch in my collection.

Not to mention the safety factor. It’s one less thing that could attract the bad guys. I now use a business card case to keep my license and insurance papers and a couple of dollars. There’s so much to be said for using Apple Pay these days. I’m sure you can think of tons of reasons why it far surpasses carrying around plastic.

For that final tip, I noticed that people find it odd when I do not have a phone on my person or out in my hand all of the time - especially my friends. I would want to be paid the attention needed to hold a proper conversation if I am out with friends or the like, so I naturally do not have a phone out every other moment; doubly so for walking, as I believe that it is important to actually pay attention to my surroundings. Just the other day I had my phone out in public for once, as I was exchanging phone numbers with my friend, and another of my friends blurted out, "Wow, you actually look normal!" Everyone else there, including I, stared blankly at them.

Companies mix the terms Chinos and Khakis, which doesn't help the buyer. One is said to link back to China (due to cotton) while the other India (due to color). Regardless, you just need to understand the two different pocket styles. One has horizontal pockets the same as jeans, however the other has almost vertical pockets closer to what is found on dress pants. The horizontal pocket is a tad more casual.

Leather shoes should always be matched with a pair of shoe trees when not on your feet. They help to slowly dry the sweat from the leather and return them to their proper shape while doing so. Leather loafers come in many styles that are comfortable in warmer climates. Don't discount leather as a material for shoes just because it is hot outside.

It's interesting the thing you said about the $250 watch that looks like a Rolex to the average eye, because in the movie American Psycho Patrick Bateman wasn't actually wearing a Rolex but instead he was a wearing a Seiko and still it played the part as good as the Rolex; in my opinion that is because the watch by itself offers great value per dollar and also blends harmoniously with the rest of Bateman's style elements, so the watch doesn't steal the limelight but complements the look as a whole.

Great video. Before watching your video, I had doubts about my recent purchases, because I went for the more unconventional gray and olive trousers instead of beige or khaki. I also bought a pair of chelsea boots because of how easy it is to wear although none of my friends wear any leather boots, only converse and sneakers. I also bought a leather hand bag and hadn't brought it out yet because I was afraid of getting ridiculed. This video is spot on! I guess the one thing I would like to add is stop wearing hoodies and wear a sport coat. I like hoodies once in a while after the gym or for a casual hang out with the guys, but I see everyone wearing hoodies to everywhere recently.

You've sold me on wearing leather shoes instead of running shoes as casual wear, but without socks? A lot of pictures of shoes without socks. Can't do it. It makes the shoes stink to high heaven! Socks absorb sweat, then you take them off and wash them. Leather just stores the sweat and the stink too.

Soften the brows a bit, mate. Clinique have nice brow stuff. Also, little more texture, less structure in the hair. It's a bit Johnny Bravo. A Gua sha in obsidian, blokey looking, would really help you out. Reccs for brands: Samuel Windsor (used to make nice clothes too), Moss, Ettinger, Hawes & Curtis, M&S jeans (shockingly good), Crockett and Jones - and Dents. From a Millennial bird who shops menswear. Your advice is good in general, took me years to figure some of that stuff out. Please don't be offended?

When I lived in the UK, I used to shop at Moss a lot. Their quality is not great but the styles are very classic. No offense taken. My brows are completely natural though (with a bi-weekly threading appt).

You could do with some more research about watches. None of those were dive watches. A dive watch would have 20 bar water resistance (200 meters/660 feet) and a rotating bezel to time an hour with. Other than that, great video.

  • @johanbertilsson2213
    @johanbertilsson22132 ай бұрын

Just a little comment, none of the watches you showed is a diving or divestyle watch. They where all dress watches and everyday beater watches. Seiko make great watches and does Citizen and Orient, but a dive/divestyle watch should have divers bezel.

I recognized your face and voice from another set of vlogs. I prefer this emphqsis on being serious and adult as opposed to being a gentleman, which can seem pretentious today, as if having to work for a living is still a stigma. I could not agree more with your opinions. You should never wear a backpack, except in a rustic context--I don't even like them for tourism. I never wear "trainers" ever--in the summer especially but in a very casual context such as at the seashore--chinos, T-shirt or polo, classic canvas white shoes (pro tennis players actually wore Jack Purcells when I grew up) such as Sperry Topsiders in the US are acceptable. But leather shoes are always the best, suede in summer but suede oxfords or Gibsons classic in fall and spiring; and if it is a dress shoes of any kind you need to learn to mirror shine them. I hate ball caps, especially worn backwards, but in winter and summer, my eyes are weak to glare, so I have to wear one when I drive a car. I could wear a fedora, I suppose, but my wife won't let me spend $800+ for what I want--and watches--no iWatch, or plastic Swatch cartoon watch, I'm prejudiced, but any mechanical watch--there are cheap ones like Hamilton or the various ETA movement watches is an absolute must. If I see a second hand jumping instead of sweeping, I take that person much less seriously.

I also would like to offer my comments about shoes. Buy the best ones you can barely afford. You will not regret it, ever. If you're not after bespoke, I do suggest you go to a store and try the real stock shoe on; my size 6F British is very different depending on make; my old pairs, crotch vamp from 50 years past fit fine, but I have a low volume low instep foot; apparently people have changed and I have Gibsons bought recently, and the flaps are touching and the shoes still are extremely loose. Wear your pocket square, a beautiful necktie, but parade ground shined leather dress shoes will make you stand out, even when wearing an oxford cloth button down and chinos. Yeah, the shirt can be unironed, as a proof it is real cotton and not permanent press, but the SHOES make the man. Also, I remember bringing in a pair of shoes for refurbishment to Church's in New York during a snowstorm. I wore Chippewa black ankle boots and the clerk complimented me on a very suitable choice for the weather.

Jeanos - easier to pickpocket than jeans. I don't particularly like that. And watches - I'd rather have a modern smartwatch with a classic look, than a dated quartz or mechanical timepiece. I always want to be up to date with technology.
